EFFECTS:
Injuries: broken limbs, bruises
Burns to body parts
Damage to respiratory system
Heat Fatigue, leading exhaustion
CONTROLS:
Wear Task Specific PPE (Aluminised boots, jacket, trousers and gloves, dust
masks). Aluminised gloves IF not available, therefore use leather gloves.
Do not step onto raw mill (dry or wet)
Put physical barrier to demarcate raw mill area and worker
Be alert: take note of raw mill on the ground, good visibility of the work area,
Provide drinking water
Make use of the mobile platform
Take frequent breaks
Controlled access to the work area
Maintain clear means of communication with the control room two way radio
Ensure a First Aider in the team
Ensure the shower is working properly
Ensure the working area is cleared of any unwanted material
Ensure mantis grating is placed over the offloading point
Ensure handrails are in good condition around the work area
Comment:
Report any signs of fire detected in the work area to the control room or shift manager.
