How do natural disasters affect our
world? Natural disasters affect our world in many ways. Natural disasters can affect many people because they can suddenly appear and hurt many people in different ways. Natural disasters can cost millions of dollars to fix and repair the damage. Natural disasters affect many people by destroying homes and lives. Some damage from natural disasters may never be fixed again. Three types of natural disasters are earthquakes, tsunami and bush fires. Earthquakes Earthquakes come from plates underground, the plates hit together and thats whats forms an earthquake. So there are many tectonic plates, and if they hit Scientists think that more than 8,000 little earthquakes happen every day, and more than a million earthquakes shake the ground every year. The richer scale it what they use to measure and to find out the magnitude of an earthquake. The Richter scale was developed by Charles. With earthquakes if a magnitude of 3 hits it will be unlikely not feel it but if a magnitude of 6 hits it could cause big damage and kill hundreds of people. Most likely if earthquakes hit in the sea/ocean it will probably cause a tsunami. There are three different types of earthquakes called the mid ocean, subduction zones and along transform faults In 2009 in Italy in the city of LAquila on the 6 th of April, a hugh 6.9 magnitude earthquake come and destroyed heaps of building, killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands of people. After the earthquake all you could see was gravel and building destroyed. Tsunami Tsunamis are a series of big/hugh waves that come crashing into our land. Most tsunamis occur in the ocean because of the weather around it, but tsunamis can also be caused by earthquakes under the ocean. Tsunamis are not often that big but can go hundreds of kilometres long. When tsunamis hit shallow water (often near the land) they slow down but increase high. In 2004, on the 26 of December a hugh 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit near tideland. That caused a hugh tsunami killing more than 280,000 people, and injuring more than 500,000 people. It trailed over 37h miles in around 75 minutes. It left more than 1.7 million homeless and affecting 11 countries. I destroyed more than 141,000 Mitchell M. homes and over 600,000 thousand lost the livelihood. The tsunami was about 20 meters high. After the tsunami hit many big businesses become very small businesses. More than 50 motels and resorts were destroyed. The tsunami speed was. Bushfire Bushfire can happen unexpectedly. 26% of the time bushfires are caused by lightning sticks. Bushfires usually occur during hotter months of the year. Bushfires are also caused by droughts, people lighting them, people driving over dry grass and there are many more ways. When bushfires can be at their worst when they hit eucalyptus leaves because they have oil in the leaves and oil can cause a bigger fire. Black Saturday In 2009, on the 7 th of February. On that day there was a hugh bushfire in Victoria called black Saturday. On this day it was shocking day to have a fire because it got up to 46 degrees. People thing there were about 400 fires there. Escape while you can. Conclusion Natural disasters arent nice at all, they can destroy whole ares and thousands of people. Some disasters you can be warned and some you cant. natural disasters can affect our world in good and bad ways.
