Fools rush where angels fear to tread

Courage does not lie in running recklessly into the face of danger. There is a thin line between a
courageous act and a suicidal act. This is as much true in every other human endeavor as it is true in
military planning. A wise individual or a nation always calculates the consequences of his actions to
maximize the impact of efforts or to minimize the dangers involved. Fools, on the other hand, confuse
stupidity with courage. They make uncalculated decisions, consequences of which they have to pay
through their noses. The sage has summed up the crux of this line of thinking with brevity in the above
mentioned wisecrack.
The instances of bravery have to be preceded by and coupled with the rational appraisal of the overall
situation. There are numerous occasions in the real life where man has to retract to save his life, to lead
his campaign to the culmination. In no way, this action can be designated as cowardice. Many a situation
demands the use of brain more than the use of muscular power. A great warrior advised his son to use
his head first, only then he will teach him how to use sword. Thus, an intelligent and wise person use a
fine mix of brain and muscular power to achieve his end. Fools, in a sharp contrast to this wisdom, take a
plunge into any situation without considering its pros and cons. They do not consider the nature and
demands of the situation and jump into it. Thus usually suffer losses and lick the dust in the end. In
economic endeavors, they often lose their capitals in risky economic ventures in the hope of a big
overnight gain. On other occasions, they may put the lives of others n jeopardy by their foolish actions.
Zamurd Khan the unpopular hero of the recent Islamabad drama, unwittingly did an explosive thing
which could cost him not only his own life but could also result in a large number of causalities.
The upshot of the aforementioned discourse is that one should take all the facets of a problem into
consideration before acting. Heroism is not that what is always required. The use of brain, the most
superior organ of the human body should go hand in hand with the use of other organs. The failure to
use the powers of brain places one in the category of fools; hence the bottom line: fools rush in where
angels fear to tread.
