My philosophy of education is composed of a mixture of Perennialism and Progressivism. While I agree with Perennialisms focus on the teaching of central, timeless ideas and cultivating students abilities to think critically through classic texts and examples, I primarily agree with Progressivisms hands-on approach to practical knowledge. I believe that knowledge in the classroom must be given practical applications in order for students to acknowledge its relevance to their individual lives. I also agree with Progressivisms emphasis on student-centered instruction as I believe that students are naturally the center and starting point for instruction.
