Team Building Plans Renae Curless, 7th grade, Feb. 7-Mar. 14 Lesson 3: Zoom!

Objective: Students will work together on the Zoom! Puzzles. Students must quietly memorize their picture and work with their classmates to put the pictures in the best order they can without looking at their pictures. They must provide details to their classmates and cooperate to put the pictures in order in the set amount of time. Materials/Resources: o Zoom! by Istvan Banyai (each picture separated and laminated) o Reflection o Observer worksheet o List of 2 student groups Implementation: Introduction (3 min) o Explain purpose of activities and the hopeful goal Give directions (5 min) put on board; distribute pictures face down on desks o There will be two observers one student for each group. These students
should take notes on the observer worksheet. o Students will be divided into two groups. Each group has a different sequence of images. Students will have 15 minutes to put their first 15 images in order. Then, they will receive another set of images and have 15 more minutes to put them in order. o After students get their image, they have 2 minutes to memorize the details of their image. After 2 minutes, they must flip the image to the black side and cannot look at it or show anyone else their image for the rest of the game. o Students must communicate calmly and quietly to put their images in the order they think they belong in. Students must cooperate and describe their image carefully and clearly to put them in order. Hint: the book title is Zoom! o After the time is called, I will flip over each image to reveal the order students have placed the pictures in. Look at pictures (2 min) o Students should stand at different sides of the rooms, away from their desks. This ensures that no one else will see their picture. o Students have 3 minutes to flip their picture over and memorize it. They cannot look at anyone elses pictures. o After the 3 minutes are up, students should turn their photos black side up and begin the activity. Round 1 (15 min) o Students have 15 minutes to communicate and order their photos on the ground. o When the 15 minutes are up, the order cannot be changed. o Students will receive another set of pictures that continues the first set. Repeat last 2 steps (18 min) Reveal order (3 min) Wrap-up and reflection (4 min) o Distribute reflections work on them now, bring them in Monday for a prize
