1. Engineering Design Central Concepts: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention/innovation, and requires designing, drawing, building, testing, and redesigning. Students should demonstrate the ability to use the engineering design process to solve a problem or meet a challenge.
1.1 Identify and explain the steps of the engineering design process: identify the problem, research the problem, develop possible solutions, select the best possible solution(s), construct prototypes and/or models, test and evaluate, communicate the solutions, and redesign. Identify the problem Research the Redesign problem
Develop solutions
Construct a prototype
Write down the original problem here. Student - Design, build and program a robot to: Push your opponents bot out of the circle. What constraints have been placed on your team? (Deadlines, resources etc.)

Explore other options via the internet Student: List the internet sites that were helpful. Site 1 www.NXTPrograms.com Site 2_www.mrcrocksrobotics.com Site 3 www.nancylovesyou.weebly.com What did you learn from your research? A I learned that you have to make the bot closer to the ground. B It cant have spaces in the bottom so it prevents the bot from flipping. C The design seen would not work so we made our own design.
Student : Share your ideas with your design team. List your ideas below. 1. A strong arm to pull the opponents wires. 2. Have a large to small gear ratio. 3. Make the bot low to the ground.
Student: The solution that worked the best was the strong arm with the gear ratio on it.
Build a robot with your NXT lego kit Create a computer program for your robot. Use the next slide(s) for the digital pictures of your prototypes and computer programs.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
Does your robot work? Did it perform as expected? What changes are necessary for the robot and the program? Does it meet the original design constraints? Is it safe? Lab work- Modify your robot project and use the next slide to post a picture of your improved robot project.

Redesign
Overhaul the solution(s) based on information gathered during testing and self-assessment activity.
Demonstrate the ability to use technology for research, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
