Curricular Innovations
RBEC
Advantages (Merit)
-Outline the easiest possible paths for creating a severely undereducated student as to follow the current trend. -The curriculum is treated in a holistic manner -The process involve are interactive and collaborative
Disadvantages (demerit)
-Allowed the teachers union to have control the education. -Mostly teacher centered
My insights
I wasnt really aware of the full background of the RBEC, the only knowledge I know about is based on the readings that I have but I can say that it is a pretty good curriculum because it still focused on the basic yet most importance things that students should learn. It promotes not only cognitive factors but as well as psychomotor and affective skills
-Provides a viable alternative to the existing formal education instruction, encompassing both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills. -provide opportunity to those who cant afford formal education.
-Not all courses are offered to ALS graduates. -graduate of this program are having hard time applying for a decent job due to some people look down with this kind of education.
ALS is a good opportunity for our less fortunate people the only problem is that our society is not that open for the graduates of this program worst is that some people wasnt even aware that this kind of program does exist. ALS programs need more attention and budget to fully maximize its vision.
K+12
Honestly, I am not in -a society wherein there were people with a higher level of education can be a basis of longterm socio-economic development - a good opportunity for the Filipino to compete globally. -Parents may see this as - provide the students more job opportunities right after graduation. another burden for them. Based on my observation I can see that the curriculum is not properly articulated. -Teachers are not yet fully prepared for this kind of change. -May cause more dropouts. -Lack of proper budget allocation. favor of the k-12 program thought this may serve as a major milestone to our educational system. I can see that our government is not fully prepared for this kind of innovation causing only more trouble and confusions.
My Enriching Activities
Select one innovation and complete the discussion web below. Interview Education students to get their ideas on curricular innovations. YES NO
Teachers training and interest, teachers today are complaining for a low rate salary. K to 12 will increase their task or work. If this happens there would be a probability that teacher would seek for another job than to do a lot of work with a low paying job.
The government is not yet fully prepared for this kind of innovation. There are still lot of educational problems that has to be addressed before venturing into a new curricular change.
Additional burden to the parents, An enhanced curriculum will decongest academic workload, giving students more time to master competencies and time for extra-curricular activities, thus, allowing for their more holistic development. It is unrealistic and may drive more youths to drop out of school. Also, it shows that quantity education is more Graduates will possess competencies and skills relevant to the job market. especially to the poor family who are working hard just to send their children to school.
(K + 12)
Graduates will be able to earn higher wages and/or better prepared to start their own business. Studies in the Philippines have shown that an additional year of schooling increases earnings by 7.5%.
Filipino graduates could be recognized abroad . a society wherein there were people with a higher level of education can be a basis of longterm socio-economic development .
My Conclusions
There is a need to respond to the fast changing times in terms of school curriculum innovation. The steps, however, should be well planned and well studied. Before any change will be introduced, a thorough study should be made to establish readiness for all concerned. Some curricular innovations are results of bandwagon but are not well supported by the managers. In the desire of some schools to be part of global educational scenario, changes and innovations are drastically implemented even if the school is not ready. Issues on the varied implementation of the curriculum among schools and teachers seem to be one of the reasons for the prevailing low performance of school all over the country. Changing for the sake of change is useless or irrelevant of the innovations not well studied. All stakeholders should be involved in the implementation of new curriculum. This process will provide each interested person to help make decision as to whether innovation will be introduced or not. In improving our educational system a lot of issues and endeavors will always be raised. Just like when we want to change for the better, there will always be obstacles to overcome. For every action, there will always be a corresponding reaction.
