In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In this scene we tried to copy the original shot from the original trailer. We accomplished the shot type which is a medium close up. However we did not accomplish the right angle of the character. In the original scene we see the whole of the characters face but in our scene we only see the side of the characters face. We did our best with the mise-en-scene considering we only had a short amount of time and limited resources. We decided we would have the characters sat down as they are in the original scene but as we only had the college resources that is all we could provide as we did not have access to a similar scene or costumes and props. The framings is quite accurate as the characters is framed to the left in both scenes. We should have had an over the shoulder shot here but we failed to produce that this time. The lighting in our version of this trailer does not match the lighting in the original, our lighting is too bright where as the lighting in the trailer is warm and homely and not sharp.

In this shot, the original used a close up of the characters face which I think we replicated quite well. In the original shot we see the characters full face where in ours we see a side profile, we could have corrected this by asking the person playing the character to face the camera more, this is something we can work on for next time. The lighting is not the same in both scenes, in the original the lighting is more low key setting a relaxing vibe where as in our shot the lighting is more high key and makes the atmosphere seem sharp. The mise-en-scene was difficult to replicate when we could only shoot o college grounds and we had no change of clothes, we shot this on a white background which was the closet we could get to the original, we also had the character sat down facing the other character.

To replicate the original trailer I took a screen shot of the original text over lays but changed the colour slightly to make it a little different from the original. i did this by learning a new skill on the apple mac computer's by using the buttons command, shift and 3. once the screen shot was in my trailer I used the clip adjustments to change the effects on the clip, the one I chose was one that make the colour stand out more and darken the blue in the background.

In this shot we replicated the speech Millie gives about her boyfriend cheating with her best friend. The lighting in our shot does not resemble the lighting in the original, if we did this again we could work on making the shot replicate the lighting better. Also the mise-en-scene is not accurate at all as the original is shot inside and ours was shot outside. Next time we could work on getting the locations more accurate according to the original. The camera shots are also very different as the original is a mid close up of Millies face and we have a mid shot of Sophies body. Also the framing is wrong as Millie is framed to the left and Sophie is framed right in the middle.

This is the scene where Millies friend is comforting her after her speech. Again in this comparison the lighting is very different, we needed to make the lighting more low key like in the original. Also this is meant to be a 3 person shot but in ours we only use two people. The camera angles are pretty accurate capturing the side of both bodies and using a mid shot. Although the framing is not right in this shot either, the two girls need to be framed more to the right rather than central. There is text over lay on this shot which we havent used in our shot which we could have done to make it look more professional. The location and mise-en-scene is not perfect but we did our best considering we only had college hours and property to shoot this and the clothes we were wearing.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

1st feedback sheet.

The feedback from my peer. Area of focus
Sequencing does the clip follow the sequence of the shots in the original trailer? Framing of shots- are the shot types accurate to those shown in the trailer? Is the shot type stable? (use of tripod) Mise-en-scene- are props and costumes appropriate (remember this wont be perfectgive a fair judgement) Editing- are the transitions accurate to those shown in the trailer? (straight cuts, dissolve, wipes, fades) Audio- is the digetic sound clear and audible? Has a soundtrack been added? Are the levels appropriate? Text and i-dents- how accurate is the use of idents, text overlay or inserts? Do these look similar to the original? Overall impression- do you feel the piece seems authentically like a trailer for a soap, given your research?

Positive comment- looks like a real trailer, great sequencing, good use of titles. Constructive critisism- to my best friend rosie piece of dialogue is a bit drowned out by the soundtrack.

What I did to improve.

What I did to improve my trailer was I took on board what my peer said in my feedback session, she said that some of the shot types did not match the original trailer, if my tutor gave us another filming session I would have corrected the shots that did not match but we were not given that chance so unfortunately I was unable to improve this. Also the mise-en-scene was not accurate as some scenes that were meant to be shot inside were shot outside. Again if we would have been given another filming session I would have been able to improve this but we were not able too. I was also given some feedback on the audio. There was some dialogue that couldnt be heard clearly, I adjusted the sound levels with the soundtrack and the dialogue to a level that agr eed with each other so that the dialogue and the soundtrack are both heard without drowning each other out.

How has this clip imroved from your last review? It has improves, the dialogue is a lot easier to hear. Constructive critisism- maybe some soundtrack at the beginning to drown out the background noise.

What I could improve in future.

From the final feedback that I was given I could improve in the future by analysing the shot types more so that they are more accurate and replicate the original a lot more. I could also make sure that I am filming inside scenes inside instead of outside so that the mise-en-scene is accurate to the original. Also I will make sure that when I am filming I am filming in aplace where there is little background noise so that it doesnt effect my work and audio.

How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Planning.
During the planning stage of my production I used the internet to research existing soap trailers to get some ideas for my own. Within the internet I used YouTube and Google. From he research I did on the internet I was able to create a story board for my own trailer, I was also able to create a script. To create the storyboard I used screenshots of the original trailer for the made in Chelsea season finale. This really helped with the planning stages as it help me construct a basic plan before I went on to the production stages.

Production.
During the production stage I used a college video camera and a tripod. I used the camera to collect the scenes for the trailer and I used the tripod to keep the camera steady instead us using hand held where its wobbly and unprofessional.

Post production.
For the post production the technologies I used were IMovie which is where I imported my video clips to. This is where I organised and edited my clips so that they made sense and looked more professional and like the original as much as I could get it with the resources I had. I also used YouTube converter to get the soundtrack that plays in the back of the trailer. I did this by copying the hyperlink off YouTube and pasting it in the converter and pressed download. Within the IMovie software I was able to change the sound levels so that we could still heat the dialogue spoken by the characters and it wasnt drowned out by the soundtrack, I also tried to get rid of the background noise in some scenes. This didnt work for al scenes as it was to noisy but I reduced it as much as I could. I did this by clicking on the clip and highlighting it and in the right hand corner there is a tool you can click on and you click the sound adjustments. Using the apple mac computers was different to using a normal computer and I learned new command keys for example the screenshot is different and you use the command, shift and 3 this then screenshots what you have on your screen and saves it to your desktop. I was also able to change the lighting on the screenshotted scenes of the text overlay to make it more my own, I did this by using the same tool in the right hand corner but instead of clicking sound adjustments I clicked clip adjustments this then gave me the option to change the lighting and texture of the clip.

What can you do to improve the quality of your production on your final, original soap trailer?

For my final soap trailer I will reduce the background noise, use appropriate setting locations for the trailer, I will use boom poles for the audio to make the trailer more professional and use appropriate costumes and props to improve on the trailer I have just produced to get a higher grade. All of this is important when producing a soap trailer. I will also develop my technical skills on an apple mac so that I can take advantage of all the tools that will make my trailer a better standard.
