11 Conclusions

Write below (or on an attached A4-page) a section containing brief conclusions about the different stages of the experience. This section should be of no more than one (1) A4-page and should include personal appreciations about the experiments, about the design issues, a brief description of the problems encountered (if any), etc.

Conclusion: In this experiment we experience how closed-loop control system stabilized the process and reduce the steady-state error. From the first experiment, we can see the effect of the ramp response by closed the pump which set as an integrator. The ramp response is the first step to allow us to get the constant which is to improve the steady-state performance, which we needed in the following experiments for system transfer function. After we using the ramp response to gain get the transfer function, from the function we will determine the location of the close-loop poles by setting up the open-loop poles. The important of the open-loop poles is that it determines how fast the system can reject the disturbance. The next experiment, we will setup the PID controller by the pole assignment. After the setup, we input a reference response and disturbance response to the system. During the experiment, we can see two result: 1. The PID controller can quickly track the reference response, and make it settle back to steady-state. This is the effect of the integral control which can make error to zero, and added derivative control to stabilize The PID controller can reject the disturbance response input and make the system settle back to steady state.

2.

Overall the whole experiment we know how the various function can make the system stable and reduce the error in a close-loop system. Hence make us understand the importance of having feedback close-loop function in a control system. The water tank system is one good experiment of a control system to let us experience how the feedback system can stabilize the water flow process. The design of the PID controller had led us experience how to use ProcessACT to design the block diagram based on the requirement of the experiment. During the design of the controller, we experience some difficulties on how does various block works in the system. But we manage to find out by trial and error in each testing. This experiment is a great experience for us to gain, to let us apply our theoretical knowledge into this experiment.
