    A 59-year-old man died in a car accident in Garden City, New York on October 3, 2013 at 9:49 pm. According to detectives, Michele Guglielmi was driving east on Stewart Avenue when he crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a tree. He had been texting on his cell phone just before the accident. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:23 pm. The police are continuing to investigate and impounded the vehicle to check the brakes and safety features.

    INCIDENT: Vehicular Accident DATE/TIME: October 3, 2013, 0949 LOCATION: Garden City ITEM: 03

    Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a Fatal Auto Accident that occurred on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 9:49 p.m. in Garden City. According to detectives, the male victim, Michele Guglielmi, 59, of West Hempstead was operating a 1998 Volvo eastbound on Stewart Avenue when he crossed into the westbound lanes striking a tree on the north side of the road, east of Kildare Road. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 10:23 p.m. by a staff physician. During the investigation it was determined that the victim had been texting on his cell phone just prior to the accident. The vehicle was impounded from the scene for brake and safety checks.
