12 Unit 7-2 Ethics Statement
20, 2013 Ethics Statement Unit 7 Assignment 2 I've been given the task of stating my own Personal view of Small Group Communication ethics. I believe you can start this process up by having everyone brainstorm a little bit. Make this a moment where regardless of the thoughts made, that no one is criticized by others. This can insure that there are a lot of possible solutions generated. After this, start to evaluate the proposed solutions made by the group. Decide if they are feasible or not. You can keep to the agenda of the meeting by making sure they dont jump to any conclusions. Hopefully you can then steer the group towards picking which is the best solution. See to it that everyone honestly buys into it. These are great guidelines to problem solving. Although they dont have to be followed perfectly, just know that leaving a step out could still cause a problem later down the line. A good suggestion for a successful small group is to practice how best to manage differences of opinions. This has proved to be the most difficult thing of all. What people need is simply to experience a decision making process of four phases. They consist of; (1) Orientation (2) conflict management, (3) emergence, and (4) reinforcement. Phase one helps everyone get along together. Not everyone in the meeting may know each other to even trust each other, which can contribute to tension. So help everyone know that they all can contribute to the meeting equally. If everyone feels important to the group, then youre off to a good start. Phase two can dissolve problems before they even start. Encourage honesty and watch out for those who want to push their own agendas. Equal participation can help with that problem. Sometimes conflict can be simply avoided by making sure everyone knows what is expected in the group. If conflict becomes unavoidable, then use a Win-win approach by respectfully integrating all the interests together. As mentioned earlier, unity in a group is very positive and creates better solutions and results. But something to consider is not to have too much cohesion. This could lead to premature agreements without having weighed enough alternatives to promote what eventually could been a better and expedient solution.
Good leadership in the small group should ensure that the meeting is continually headed in a constructive and practical direction. Not everyone needs to just be a yes man. In conclusion, I believe that small groups can prove to be the most effect way of communicating information for a solution or set of problems because of the experience of interaction between each member. It proves to be a very effective and efficient means of problem solving.
