Computerized Numerical Control, or CNC as we all now it, came about shortly after WWII as a result of the aircraft industrys desire to produce more accurate and complex parts. Numerical control as a concept developed in the mind of John Parsons as a way to produce integrally stiffened skins for aircraft, and this led to a series of Air Force research projects at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, beginning in 1949.
To manufacture specific by CNC machines we have to go through five main steps. 1. The computer: Design and draw the product by Pro-Engineering program. Enter all the details of dimensions, numbers and information. Simulate the work and see if the work correct or there any problems before run the machine. 2. The tools: Choose what you need of tools. Set the tools in the right places with right numbers. 3. Place the workpiece: Make sure about the dimensions and the kind of material. 4. Run the machine: Close the door then run it. Stand in front of the machine to watching the work through the viewing glass. 5. Remove the workpiece.
Safety Features:
Less interaction with dangerous machinery parts: The operator only needs to set the needed tools at the beginning of the process and not need to come near the machine anymore during the production process which means he/she would not have to risk touching hot parts later to adjust the work. Work is done in a contained environment: Everything is done inside a contained chamber inside the machine and so there is no danger of any flying shrapnel or fragments hitting the worker and possibly causing them to lose an eye or anything like that.
