    Ladies! (and gentlemen!) well be hosting a fashion show showcasing lots of high-street brands at hugely discounted prices! Tickets are just 4.00 & must be pre-purchased from our office.     New Home-Start Courses 2013


    Volunteers, Children & Endings Tuesday 16th April 2013 6-9pm St Peter's Children's Centre, Ashton under Lyne This module addresses the importance of involving children in the endings process and the need to inform children and to prepare them in advance that you will no longer be visiting the family. This workshop will help you consider the ending of support for a family, and to plan future strategies and materials to aid positive closure for children when your support ends. Accreditation available at Level 2 Parents as Partners Monday 13th May 2013 10am to 2pm St Peter's Children's Centre, Ashton under Lyne This workshop will enable you to understand relationships within families and appreciate the impact of having children on a couple's relationship. Learning to Share Monday 8th July 2013 10am to 2pm St Peter's Children's Centre, Ashton under Lyne This workshop will enable you to be aware of situations/ circumstances when children may find sharing difficult and identify ways in which children can be supported to share. Domestic VIolence Awareness 30th July & 6 August 2013 6pm to 9pm St Peter's Children's Centre, Ashton under Lyne This 2 session workshop will look at describing, recognising patterns, the impact on children, the effects & seeking help in regards to the domestic abuse of women. Promoting the Mental Health of Children Monday 9th September 2013 10am to 2pm St Peter's Children's Centre This workshop looks at the risk factors, environmental factors and approaches in supporting the mental health of children.

    Changes to course booking system
    Places for all Home-Start & Food & Nutrition courses must be secured by returning a booking form (from the website or request from Nadine). All places will be confirmed and non-attendance will be noted. Although our courses are FREE to you it costs us in staff time, preparation and resources. If you have any queries please contact Nadine. Thank you for your co-operation.

    Not only do we work in Tameside & Oldham, we now have a Bangla project in Hyde, Breastfeeding support in Tameside & Glossop and Family Groups throughout Tameside (more info below). Our team has more than doubled in 12 months! Information can be found on our website www.homestartto.org.uk

    This 4 week workshop includes meal planning & budgeting, good food hygiene, promoting healthy eating & breastfeeding/weaning - a great course if you're interested in cooking/healthy eating and/or you're working with a family who may need support in those areas. Accreditation available at Level 2

    Many of you may have been trained or supported by our Co-ordinator Eileen. Eileen & family are putting on their walking shoes and doing the 6-day Arran Coastal walk on behalf of Home-Start Tameside & Oldham between 14th to 20th July 2013. Please show your support by sponsoring her here:

    Universal Credits are coming early to Tameside & Oldham. Both boroughs will be participating in the pilot scheme in April 2013 before the national roll out in October 2013. Is your H-S family struggling with benefits? Do you want information on agencies that can help? Would you like to find out if your H-S family is eligible for a grant and how to go about it? Do you want advice on how to approach your H-S family to discuss their money problems? This course is to help you to navigate your H-S family through whats available and who to approach for support. 100% of volunteers who attended the course would recommend it to other volunteers

    Tameside Family Groups


    Gosia & Sarah are running several family groups in Ashton, Denton, Stalybridge & Hyde. These groups are for HomeStart families so if you feel they could benefit please bring them along or make them aware. Times/venues can be found at http://www.homestartto.org.uk/page5.htm

    Congratulations to all our volunteers who have achieved accreditation for their workbooks. We have
    continued to triple the numbers of volunteers achieving so well done to everyone. Just a reminder that you can complete accreditation for the Preparation course, Supporting Parents Experiencing Depression, Maximising Family Income, Volunteers, Children & Endings, Home-Visiting and Food & Nutrition courses so not only are you gaining hands-on experience and giving something back youve also got access to a range of FREE training! Dont forget that if youre completing our Breastfeeding Peer Support course you can also gain a qualification in that!
