HSUPA: Protocols & Physical Layer

Length: 1 day Audience: Operator WCDMA RF Engineers and Managers who will be responsible for, or involved in, the deployment of HSUPA. Design Engineers responsible for the development of HSUPA devices or equipment. Prerequisites: UMTS/HSPA Technical Overview and HSDPA: Protocols and Physical Layer or equivalent working knowledge of WCDMA (UMTS) Release 99 and HSDPA standards. Description: This course provides a low level technical overview of HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access). After understanding the motivations driving the Uplink improvements, the class takes a closer look at the physical layer channels and their processing, and at the Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, identifying and detailing the specific modifications and additions to each layer of the UMTS protocol stack, while contrasting them to HSDPA. Objectives: Recall the main motivations for the introduction of HSUPA Identify the Rel 6 uplink and downlink enhancements Overview the UMTS network architecture and protocols Explain how HSUPA operates List the HSUPA Physical Layer channels and describe HSUPA channel mapping and coding Outline the physical channel procedures performed in the UE and Node B to accomplish HSUPA operations Explain the MAC operation to support HSUPA Describe the HSUPA MAC architecture of UE and UTRAN Identify the HSUPA RRC functions Explain the call flow for setting up HSUPA operations, in conjunction with either R99 of HSDPA data connections Describe the impact of UE state transitions on HSUPA operations E-Learning version available: HSUPA: Protocols and Physical Layer
