Walk Dogs on walk Circling Capelaw Hill, The Pentlands Length Archie, Lucas, Solo, Ozzy, Tim, Struan, Talaidh 6 miles

Who switched the sun off? Brr, what a chill day. Thankfully Ive had the sense to put my shorts away until next year. But I also needed to wear gloves today. Not helped by a very strong wind that kept us off the tops. Hence the circling of the hill rather than climbing it. So cold the dogs had to run around a lot to keep warm. Or maybe it was Struan the mad band leader who conducted up their storm. Rivalling the storm threatening to blow up around us. Struan the conductor, Ozzy the lead violinist, whose melody shaped the structure of their roaming symphony. Tim the piccolo, darting in and out, almost an annoying pitch, but just reining it back in under Struans watchful gimlet eye. Archie and Lucas the percussionists, chiming in and out to add fullness and resonance to the moorland music of the group. And Solo, the double bass, too much to hold to be able to dash in and out. But nonetheless getting caught up in some of the fun despite his better judgement, like a cascade of notes, almost running away with themselves. Talaidh more like the harpist reserved and delicates, shielding nuances of hidden depths, with an ability to soar through notes taking the rest of the orchestra by surprise. This was our swirling symphony for the moor and hills. Resonating with the swirling wind

around the curving hill, fading in and out, on swelling and ebbing of notes. The occasional solo as Struan or Ozzy dashed off on their own darting up and down the scales. Scaling the sides of the hills before plunging through the rest to swirl them into a dizzying display of dashing notes. All with the underlying oom pah-pah of Solo and the deceptive, illusionary pseudo-angelic notes of Talaidh. In the swirling, maelstrom wind we pushed upwards. As though wading into the sea, a viscous feel as the wind cupped us in its pliable but unformed hands. Just giving as we pressed through them but exerting a force against us, an almost equal blast back to us from the score of our music. The orchestras twisting notes biting through it. And in the lea of the hill sheltered from the wind, rising to a full theatre of swirling notes at Struan once more led the rest through the tortuous score, of heather and hillside. Punctuated by sheep, pauses in the musical score. Slowing the dogs like the shape of the hill deflects and slows the wind. Round it we went like horses on a merry-go-round. Now almost fixed in place as the dogs began to slow and trot in single file or pairs. Back into the wind blowing the longer coats of Ozzy and Solo like suddenly animated manes on the freeze frame horses. Around we carouseled bringing Edinburgh into view. A musical score of rising notes from buildings and hills and deepening sounds from parks and ponds. Dropping toward it as we turned the final leaf of the pages of our symphony. Archie and Ozzy playing one final duet of cross-cutting music, accompanied by the finely pitched contribution of Tim. The underlying gentle harmonised rhythm supplied by Lucas, Solo, and Talaidh. The ground levelled, the wind passed above us and gently we faded the music toward its finale.
