Marine Salvage Meets Sustainable Retail at Sea Bags
Sea Bags are born as sails and transformed into nautically inspired totes and accessories that bring our customers great happiness. We collect our sails one at a time through a network of passionate boaters who love our community waters as much as we do. Our materials come from Maine first, New England second and USA third. It's the previous life of each sail that makes every individual bag unique.
Sea Bags Sail Trade Program
Create a keepsake and preserve your memories on the water. We can help you design a tote from a retired personal sail. ⛵ Learn more about our Sail Trade Program on our website.
Maritime Rope Splicing By Hand!
Have you ever wondered why every Sea Bag tote has a rope bulge in the handle? It's actually a splice, stronger than any knot, and enables us to make our signature wrap-around handles from just one piece of rope! #seabag #handmade #sustainablefashion #maritimecraft #artisanmade
Sailing Team
Join us in cheering on the Sea Bags Women's Sailing Team as they compete at the J-Daze Regatta at Canandaigua Yacht Club in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region! Wishing good luck and fair winds for their first J/24 event of 2023. ⛵
50th Retail Store Opening
The design of our retail stores mirrors the thoughtful approach to how we handcraft our bags. From preserving the sail's natural beauty and character marks when cutting sails into usable panels, to applying classic and nautical embellishments to the recycled sail cloth, we consider the importance of each design decision.

Unique Sails - America's Cup
Every sail is unique and tells a story of where it's been and what it's done through the character marks it earned along the way. ⛵This sail was used in the America's Cup, the world's oldest international sailing competition, and is already being recycled into one of a kind totes and bags! ⚓ #SailStories #AmericasCup #UpcycledFashion #UniqueTotes #SeaBags
Sail Trade Story: Heidi Gadbois
“The eye of the storm passed right over the Gadbois' dock, ravaging the sails on their Beneteau 32. When the storm had settled and the sails were deemed irreparable, Heidi reached out to our Sail Trade Team to donate her sails at our Punta Gorda retail store in exchange for a very special Sea Bag.” Read an incredible Sail Trade Story, submitted with epic video.

Vintage Auctions
New Vintage Auction! This auction tote features the Mystic insignia, hailing from a series of sailboats designed by Peter Legnos locally in New England. The vessels, built near Groton Connecticut’s waterfront until 1986, were known as “Mystic Cats”. The Mystic logo on this unique brown Dacron is a perfect one-of-a-kind piece for your collection.
About Us
Did you know the rope for our handles comes from one of the last rope manufacturers in New England? We hand cut the rope, then use a sailor's knot method known as the splice to join the ends together, creating a continuous loop.
Indigo Rising
In addition to our focus on Sustainability and being Made in the USA, a third pillar of Sea Bags' mission is giving back to our community. The Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA) is one of those new opportunities that we are now in our third year of supporting. Creative Director/Curator and Co-Founder of Indigo Arts Alliance, Marcia Minter pays homage to African American women and the art quilting with the Indigo Rising Tote.
