Proven Winners on Instagram: "Wondering what to prune or not to prune this fall? Put down your pruners when it comes to these kinds of plants: 1- Any shrubs that bloom on old wood, meaning they set this year’s flower buds last year. Examples: bigleaf, mountain and oakleaf hydrangeas, hollies, quince, forsythia, loropetalum, lilacs, viburnum, weigela. Instead, if you must prune these, do so right after they finish blooming. 2- Evergreen and semi-evergreen perennials, trees and shrubs - If these need pruning, do so after the flush of new foliage has finished coming out in spring or summer. 3- Perennials and subshrubs with woody stems like lavender, Russian sage, Caryopteris and butterfly bush - Prune these in the spring when new growth begins to appear. 4- Plants that offer benefits for

Kawartha Family Farm 💐 on Instagram: "Perennials can get a bad rap for having a short blooming period. While this may be true for some of our favorites - like peonies, many perennials will keep on blooming. Don’t ignore your perennials when doing your annual flower deadheading - some perennials will reward you just as much. Some like #coneflower and #rudbeckia will bloom whether you give them attention or not, while others will repeat their show with a quick trim: #daisies will bloom just by deadheading individual flowers, while #foxglove, #delphinium, #geum #salvia and #yarrow will re-bloom quickly if cut back after their first show. (Salvia will keep re-blooming as long as you’re willing to cut it back - right up to frost). #perennialgrowers #perennialgardeners #ontariogardeners #ka
