Magdalena Navarro is the Deputy Director of the International and Academic Office (IAAO) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In that role, she is responsible for managing international programs at NIST, including developing and implementing NIST international S&T policies, and serving as NIST liaison with foreign and U.S. government institutions and universities in support of research collaborations. In 2012, Ms. Navarro served as Senior Policy Analyst at the White House Office of Science and Technology (OSTP) developing International S&T Policy on issues of critical importance for the Nation on energy, climate, and cybersecurity. Ms. Navarro came from NIH and joined NIST as a biologist in the Fire Measurement and Research Division of the NIST Engineering Laboratory, where she conducted experimental work in toxic potency of combustion products. She has also worked as physical scientist conducting research in the NIST Optical Technology Division prior to moving into international science policy. She earned two M.S. degrees in Engineering Management and Information Technology Systems from George Washington University and a B.S. in Biology and minor in Chemistry from the University of Maryland.
