You may not have heard her name before, but you most certainly will recognise her face.

Jessie Buckley is an Irish actress and singer, who is steadily rising to fame thanks to her diverse and impressive career so far, from film appearances in the likes of psychological thriller Beast and TV roles including parts in War and Peace and the recent acclaimed HBO/Sky Atlantic drama Chernobyl.

The actress has been making such an impact that she was nominated for this year's 2019 EE Bafta Rising Star award.

As her critically acclaimed musical drama Wild Rose arrives on DVD, here is a look at some of Buckley's biggest roles to date and where you can expect to see her next.

Who is Jessie Buckley?

She was born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland on 28th December 1989, making her 29 years old. She performed in several school productions, whilst achieving Grade eight in piano, clarinet and harp with the Royal Irish Academy of Music and at the age of 17 she moved to London to pursue her career in singing and acting.

How did she get her big break?

In 2008, Jessie competed in the BBC reality TV Show, I’d Do Anything, a search for a new ‘Nancy’ in the London West End stage revival of Oliver! hosted by Graham Norton. She came second behind winner Jodie Prenger.

Her appearance on I’d Do Anything opened new doors for Jessie leading to her West End debut in Stephen Sondheim's musical A Little Night Music, alongside other theatre roles including starring in The Tempest at Shakespeare's Globe, Henry V at the Noël Coward Theatre and Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's production of The Winter's Tale.

Since her on screen debut in ITV drama Endeavour, Jessie has starred in Television series including War & Peace, Taboo alongside Tom Hardy, The Last Post, The Woman in White and most recently in the critically acclaimed HBO and Sky Atlantic drama Chernobyl, where she portrayed Lyudmilla Ignatenko, the wife of a Firefighter and first responder to the nuclear disaster.

Jessie made her debut to film in 2017 with British indie film, Beast, a psychological thriller and was then nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star in 2019, losing out to Letitia Wright (Black Panther, Avengers: Infitinity War).

In her most recent feature Wild Rose, Jessie stars alongside Julie Walters and Sophie Okonedo, playing Rose-Lynn Harlan, a young woman bursting with raw talent, charisma and cheek.

Fresh out of jail and with two young kids, all she wants is to get out of Glasgow and make it as a country singer in Nashville. Her mum Marion (Julie Walters) has had a bellyful of Rose-Lynn’s Nashville nonsense. Forced to take responsibility, Rose-Lynn gets a cleaning job, only to find an unlikely champion in the middle-class lady of the house (Sophie Okonedo).

In the film, Jessie Buckley performs all of her own songs, and received rave reviews from critics, when it was released.

Jessie will star alongside Renee Zellweger in Judy, an upcoming biographical drama film about the life of American singer and actress Judy Garland.

She has also been announced as starring in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle alongside an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr., Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Holland and Emma Thompson.

She’s got exciting things on the horizon and she’s certainly to be one to watch!
