Radio DJ Jordan North has addressed his shock move from BBC Radio 1 to Capital FM, admitting there has been some challenges.
The I'm A Celebrity star, 34, left fans shocked in February this year when it was announced he would be leaving the network after ten years. It was later announced that reality telly personality Jamie Laing would be replacing him on the Going Home Show alongside Vick Hope and Katie Thisleton.
Just hours after the news of his exit emerged, it was speculated that Jordan would be moving to Capital FM Breakfast, presenting with Chris Stark and Sian Welby, following Roman Kemp's departure from the programme. He has now revealed his mum was part of the reason behind the move.
He said: “I couldn’t tell many people about the new job but I told my mum and she said, ‘You’ve got to do it, it will be good for you’. She’s been really behind me and all the family have been. They are dead supportive and don’t treat me any different when I go back home."
However, the new 4.20am alarm has spelled an end to his dreamy Sundays spent sipping Guinness. Jordan said: “It’s been alright. I’m two months in, ask me again in two years. It’s Monday mornings usually that I find the hardest. I used to love a drink on a Sunday, just in the afternoon. I’ve had to knock it on the head and now I go swimming instead.
“As I have got older, cue the hangovers. I used to be really good at kicking them but now if I go out they are lingering until Wednesday and I am like, ‘What is this’.” After a decade at Radio 1, Jordan was pulled off air before he had a chance to say goodbye to his listeners. He insisted things are fine with most of his former co-stars.
“It was all a bit of a blur and I would love to have said goodbye on air but behind the scenes there’s a lot of stuff going on,” he added. “And I get it, I understand why they did it, they had to do it, I hold no grudges, really. I’ve got so many friends there. I’ve been to three weddings since I’ve left of people who all worked at Radio 1. People change jobs all the time. And I still see everyone. They had to do what they had to do, and I had to do what I had to do.”
He also shared plans to stay on the airwaves for years. Jordan said: “I want to do it for a long time. They have put their faith in me and I just want to create a really successful breakfast show that people put on every day, not necessarily think about but every morning when they get in the car, they’re like, ‘Oh, I want to listen to Jordan, Sian and Chris’. And I want to do it as long as we’re all enjoying it, and that’s the main thing. It will take me a year or two to establish myself.”
