  • Today we recognise and honor Waitangi Day, the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) which took place in the Bay of Islands in 1840.   • Summer is prime time for scammers. Scammers use sophisticated tactics to impersonate us and trick people into providing personal information. Remember, never provide personal information or payment details to anyone claiming to be Inland Revenue. We will only ever ask you to provide this information via myIR or on the phone if you've called us.   • Unsure if you have received an official email or text message from us or whether it is a scam? With the holiday period approaching fast, it’s important to be vigilant. Be on the lookout. 👀 Even if it looks convincing, don't click on links or give out your bank details. Some important tips to remember: ➡️ We do not put refund amounts, or links directly to myIR in our emails or texts. ➡️ Scam emails may come from an email address or include links that are wrong but look like ours. For example: ird.co.nz, ird.qovt.nz or ird.gov.nz. We'll start processing claims from 8 January – payments will be paid within 15 business days of the claim. 📢 Working for Families (WfF) and paid parental leave (PPL) payments will not be affected by the Christmas and New Year Holidays.   • 🚨 Stay ahead of scammers 🚨 If you receive suspicious text messages, emails, or phone calls pretending to be Inland Revenue staff, be sure to report these to our Phishing team. We ask that you provide as much detail as possible to [email protected]. You can also report text scams by forwarding the text message from your phone to short code 7726, free of charge.
