We are very excited as we prepare for the WahlheYmat Talks on 🗓️ Wednesday, October 23, starting at 5:30 PM at the 📍Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek PopUp Saal. We'll be tackling a crucial topic with our guests — Mine Nang (Give Something Back to Berlin e.V. ) Kasia Wojcik (Berlin Polyphon) and Philipp von der Wippel (ProjectTogether) —young, talented leaders whose fresh perspectives, knowledge, and positive energy are truly transformative. It's a crucial topic because migration has become the number one social issue in Germany. But often, this focus is driven by fear, making us, newcomers for a projection surface of other problems in life. This reflects the core of our current situation: our city administration, politics, and democratic structures are too outdated to respond effectively to today’s challenges, big or small. So, how can we change this complex system? We see the role of civic society and civic organizations as essential. How can we transform this role? How do we strengthen civic organizations in terms of financial support, human resources, skills, and knowledge? How can we reimagine the relationship between politics and civic society? And how do we integrate the expertise, resources, and efficiency of the business sector into civic society? How can we do things differently? Civic organizations have a unique role in helping citizens to adapt. They can also help us see our lives, our roles, and our connections differently. As Erik Fernholm highlighted at the IDG Summit: What if we stopped viewing life as a journey with a fixed destination? What if life wasn’t a journey at all, but more like music—music we appreciate, music that inspires us to add to it. And adding to music means: dance. The purpose of music isn’t to reach the final note—it’s to dance. Seeing things differently is what ignites change. Please join us on Wednesday to experience the energy of civic society and reflect together on how we can innovate our democracy. Let’s start the discussion right now! Today we Demos are setting out plans to upgrade democracy, win back trust in politics and start to write the global playbook against populism. Our Citizens' White Paper, produced in partnership with the participation charity Involve, sets out the why, what and how the new government could choose to create ways for the public to participate in national policy making. Why? To improve policy making, by making it more relevant and robust and helping to find ways through seemingly intractable policy questions, and to win back trust, which Sir Keir Starmer has called "the battle of this political era". What? Through the right participatory method for the right question: Citizens' Panels to help shape the governments' missions; Citizens' Assemblies to tackle big difficult policy questions that require sacrifice, or a moral decision; community conversations and co-creation to design services. How? By embedding it across the policy making landscape - through the missions, building capacity across the civil service, moving towards a legal duty to consider participation and underpinning with rigorous, independent standard setting. Martin Wolf in the FT today says of the work today: "The fundamental aim is to change the perception of government from something that politicians and bureaucrats do to us into an activity that involves not everyone, which is impossible, but ordinary people selected by lot. This, as I have noted, would be the principle of the jury imported into public life." Read the full paper below. I'd love to hear what you think. Brilliant work led by Miriam Levin with Sarah Castell and Hana Kapetanovic with a whole team of support at Demos and Involve. https://lnkd.in/eX9YSX74

Can you believe that when I encounter an accessibility barrier, that task is likely to take me more than twice as long as if it had been accessible? Check out more on this research from AFB!
Did you know that AFB recently released results from its second Barriers to Digital Inclusion Study? We found that each study participant experienced an average of 17.7 barriers during the 10-day period, or about 12 per week. Although participants could resolve most barriers independently or with the help of a sighted person, in about 20% of instances, participants could not find a solution and had to give up on a digital task. Learn more about this study in our most recent AFB Blog post written by AFB’s Director of Research, Dr. Arielle Silverman: https://ow.ly/LB1A50REWnA.

🌟 Join Us! Let your voice be heard! 🌟 💡 The digital divide separates those with access to modern technology and internet services from those without. This gap affects education, job opportunities, and access to essential services, disproportionately impacting low-income and underserved communities. By closing this divide, we can create a more equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. However, due to a lack of additional funding from Congress, the Affordable Connectivity Program has ended for now. 💡 🤝 That's the reason why Emerios supports initiatives like the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to provide affordable internet access to all households. By partnering with ACP, we help ensure low-income families can stay connected and benefit from digital resources. 🤝 📢 Support ACP and help ensure everyone can thrive in a connected world. Your voice can help bridge the digital divide and create a more inclusive future for all! 📢
