A fundraiser launched to help a young ‘hard working and honest’ Cork man get the cancer care he needs has received an overwhelming response.
A GoFundMe was recently set up for 26-year-old Tyrone Murphy, who must travel to the UK for life saving treatment for the cancer he is bravely battling.
Tyrone will go to Manchester to receive radiation treatment on a tumour that he has on his brain stem, a six week process during which time he will need to recover in a hotel, which will incur extra fees. Thankfully, his loving mother Sharon will stay with him during his tough recovery.

The Cork man’s loving sister, Chloe, has launched a GoFundMe for him, which has seen an outpouring of support from the community. Since launching, the fundraiser has raised a staggering €25,000, well over the initial target.
In a post on GoFundMe, Tyrone’s sister said he was a “hard working, honest, family oriented young man” as she appealed to the public for support in helping him.
“Never in my life did I think this would be at our front door. We’re all heartbroken but rooting and believing in a higher power,” she wrote.
“My brother Tyrone (as a lot of people would know) is a hard working, honest, family oriented young man.
“At the young age of 26 he’s been given a life line to go to Manchester to receive radiation treatment on a tumor that he has on his brain stem. This is a six week process and he will be recovering in a hotel/Airbnb over there also which will also incur additional fees.
“As a family, we are down on our knees asking for help. Anything at all that you have spare in your pocket. I know times are tough for everyone but if we could all just give something small it would make a huge difference.
“Tyrone don’t deserve this…. No one does!! Tyrone deserves the right to treatment and to rest and recover at home, but that’s not possible with the type of brain cancer that he has. His only option is to go travel to Manchester to receive this treatment.
“Our mom Sharon will stay over with Tyrone and care for him in the tough weeks that are ahead, but to do this she has to come out of work which in turn is going to have a crippling affect financially. Any little bit can help.
“I’m hoping deep down that community spirit is still alive and strong. The NHS will be paying for Tyrone’s treatment so all that’s left is his accommodation, transport and his care needs.
“Let’s make this already horrendous journey a little more easier by raising funds to help him financially, so that he can fight this disease and recover without the worry of affording his basic essentials.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to every single person who can help us out in any way at all.”
So far the GoFundMe has raised €25,265, far surpassing the initial €15,000 target. To donate to Tyrone’s fundraiser, go here.
Chloe said the support from the community has been "heartwarming," after thinking that "never in a million years did we expect to reach our target goal, let alone exceed it."
