Lee (2023)
Authentic
It's a big story about a larger-than-life character. I very much enjoyed Kate Winslet's portrayal of Lee Miller. The movie does struggle at times to bring the viewer along, as there is so much to tell. The movie could have easily been 3 hours long. Luckily, I already had a handle on the history and Lee miller's story. Others may find it difficult to keep up without more context. It's still worth watching, especially in this time of wanna-be fascists looking to take over the world. The film focuses mostly on Lee Miller's WW2 years as a trail-blazing and ground-breaking correspondent. Her artistic eye brings an important perspective to her war photos. At times the film shows us how Lee could be resourceful and could always find a way to get done what she wanted to get done. Other times, it is evident she is over her head and may have bitten off more than she could chew.
Carmen Curlers (2022)
Tremendous fun!
The acting by all characters is wonderful. The 1960s period depictions hilarious. The styling, clothes, music are a treat. The beautiful period cars and visits to the TV/Radio shop are exquisite. The radios and TVs on display are artistic furniture pieces. For me, Maria Rossing and Nicolai Jørgensen steal the show. Maria as Birthe transcends her humble farm-grown roots and Nicolai, as Frans portrays his shyness and later his coming out in 1960s Denmark to perfection. In particular, Nicolai's performance is a career milestone. We feel his fear and pain and sadness living in a world where he is not accepted for who he is. I am not through all
of Season 1, and we wait to see how Birthe's husband and family fare.
Bron/Broen (2011)
An all-time favorite of ours
This show is at the top of our all-time favorite list. Extremely well produced, directed, scripted and acted. I love the show so much, I found the theme song and installed it as my ring tone on my phone. Sophia Helen as Swedish police detective Saga Norland puts on a career performance. Thure Lindhart as Henrik, Saga's Danish Police partner, was a great addition to the final three seasons.
Comme un coup de tonnerre (2021)
Excellent!
Dark, but poignant examination of a man pushed beyond his breaking point. Suzanne (Sarah Suco) stole the show - so very funny. All the cast was great.
Fred til lands (2019)
Audience roots for murder?
The "Mike" character is so awful, the audience quickly finds themselves rooting for murder? What does that say about us?! The only problem I have with this series is that none of the characters is likable. They are all either weak or bad people.
Vores mand i Amerika (2020)
Well done!
I much enjoyed, the story, the acting and the script.
Lui au printemps, elle en hiver (2015)
Good acting
The lead character's daughter, played by Magali Woch, steals the show with her hilarious and spot-on portrayal of Sophie, a self-absorbed mother and wife - in a failing marriage.
Greyzone (2018)
Enjoyable
Enjoyable suspense thriller. Ardalan Esmaili is especially good at the antagonist Iyad.
Arde Madrid (2018)
Hilarious!
Very funny. Great offbeat look at life in the early 1960's Spain. Characters are well developed from the get-go.
Planet of the Humans (2019)
Eye Opening Expose of "Green" Tech
Well done, but it does focus a little too much on certain "green" strategies, such as burning biomass. Lots of info that was new to me. Some of the icons of the environmental movement come off a little tarnished. As someone very interested in combating Climate Change and improving our environment, I wish the movie offered more of a solution, or better approach.
There Are No Fakes (2019)
More of a TV Level Production
Decent story, but not crafted to the level of a first run movie. More like something you would watch on TV. Not bad, but not great either.
Dicte (2013)
Characters you care about
Love this show. A cast of highly developed characters. All characters are flawed, but you still care about them. Dicte drives me nuts with her unbridled emotional response to life, but that's just excellent acting. My favorite character is John Wagner (Lars Brygmann). Thanks so much to MHz Choice to bring Dicte to the USA.
