Automata (2019)
The Devil's Machine
This was a wild crazy ride. My mind did some amazingly flexible taboo mental gymnastics and I have to say I enjoyed it. I don't want to give any spoilers so I will only say this has been my favourite Lawrie Brewster movie so far. I still have a few to go but I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying this genre. I found myself saying oh you aren't going to go there are you? They went there, climbed the fence, went a little farther then circled back to make sure you knew they went there. This movie is quite dark but I myself enjoy that. It may not be for everyone but it's definitely worth a try and watch in my opinion.
The Unkindness of Ravens (2016)
This one got me
I was quite unsettled watching an unkindness of ravens, because this could be anyone suffering with any kind demons. I do not get queasy often but the eye plucking got me and I had to close my eyes at one point. I really felt for poor Andrew and the anguish he went through, his pain and isolation. I hope to be able to watch it again to catch all the things I missed (will probably close my eyes again at the same parts though). If I had to pick between an unkindness of ravens and lord of tears, I would pick lord of tears just because of the lack of eyeball removals. They are both fantastic movies and worth a watch.
Lord of Tears (2013)
I really liked it
I have read some pretty harsh reviews... yes this movie may not be everyone's taste but I really enjoyed it. I'm just discovering these movies and if you go in with an open mind they are quite good. I am giving lord of tears a 10/10 because I am not sure how well I will sleep tonight and I love this uneasy feeling. I haven't written many reviews so I'm not sure what to say other than this was time well spent. (And for those who are curious, I stumbled across Hex studios and Lawrie Brewster on Twitter and I am now obsessed with watching all the movies available and have also ordered several books from the collection as well so no this is not a boosted rating, these are my actual feelings and thoughts on the movie).
Ghost Crew (2022)
Ghost Crew is Amazing
I don't normally write reviews, so I'm not great at it. I am writing this because this was my first Hex movie and I enjoyed it so much. I was sucked in at the beginning (I am totally the annoying kid in the background) and fell farther and farther as it went on. The locations were fantastic, the actors were all so great. I don't want to give away the story because if you haven't seen it yet you need to give it a watch. Ghost crew is such a charming gem and I will definitely be watching it again to pick up on all the things I missed on my first watch. Please give this movie a try you won't be disappointed.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
My Favourite Show!
I am an older adult who is still in love with Shadowhunters even years after it was prematurely cancelled. Season 1 was a bit cringe worthy but loveable, season 2 was such an amazing improvement and season 3 was beyond fantastic! The only thing I hat is how the writers did the main couple dirty in their attempt to wrap things up after the cancellation. The cast are the nicest group of people ever, they still interact with fans years after the cancellation. If you enjoy vampires, werewolves, fair folk, warlocks and sexy half Angel half human warriors you will love Shadowhunters :)
