Watchmen (2019)
A Sad Endeavor
I have read the graphic novel and the film is my single favorite movie. I have never been so disappointed with a Tv show and I'm shocked to see how well this show has been rated. It is very boring and remains true to just about none of the theme and core of the Watchmen world. None of the characters are gripping. It's like they saw how great the movie/graphic novel was and they said what if we make it diverse, race-swap, and take away all the things that make the Watchmen world so captivating. The movie has amazing visuals, acting and dialogue. The show forfeited all that to make sure it was boring.
TheQuartering (2017)
Great Entertainment and Informative
TheQuartering is awesome. He is funny and he doesn't give the generic blue or red pill on everything. He's wrong sometimes but almost all the time he's sensible. He's always a blast to listen to and I would trust him over Fox, CNN, or Msnbc anyday. He knows how to keep it light with topics like video games and movie and also makes sure to cover the big stuff as well like president debates and political flops. Give him 2 or 3 videos and you'll know exactly what you're getting. His thumbnails can be big exaggerate from time to time but in his defense: In this space he's actually one of the less dramatic ones for thumbnails. Live shows are a blast keep it up. You are helping and entertaining alot of people.
The Acolyte (2024)
Biggest Waste of Potential Yet from Star Wars
When you watch any of the interviews with the Director it's not hard to see where we went wrong... The show struggles in nearly every capacity. The best large scale part is probably the setting (time period) or the visuals such as scenery, cities, and ships. The cast is poor across the boards aside from maybe the villian. The show is agenda driven and not plot driven. The Best scenes of the show are the 2 super short cameos near the end of the season and the lightsaber duels. I gotta say most times when there are one v one duels they are very well done. But alas these two thing make up probably 2% of the show. This show is about politics not Star Wars.
Kaze no tani no Naushika (1984)
Phenomenon Animated Work
I saw this movie for the first time decades after it released and I was so suprised at how great it was. This movie carried all you can ask for from an animated movie. This film is great whether you are 5 or 50 years old. Not cheesy or lazy at all. Great strong female protogainist especially compared to what modern girl bosses we get on screen these days. The main character stands out more than even any other part of the movie. She is an amazing example of someone who is thoughtful and stands strong for their beliefs. The movie was interesting, thoughtful, and it managed to not feel the need to rush itself or go so slow that it would be boring. I have probably seen over 100 Animated Films and of those still fit for younger audiences this would no doubt make my Top 5.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Hilarious with a Well Earned R Rating
This movie was hilarious. The action was well done and the comedy was strong. Seeing Deadpool and Wolverine together on screen was great and I wasn't disappointed with their onscreen dynamic. They did a nice job with cameos. The writing around Wolverine was very interesting. I will say the movie was the max amount of gore and raunchyness I can take in a movie while still enjoying the film overall. Some of the screen where they mix violence and humor like the opening fight sequence was graphically disturbing at points. I honestly don't think I could watch that movie with my son even if he was 17. So a mixed bag. I wish they would have toned that gore and sexual content down to less than half. It was alot.
Borderlands (2024)
A Big Disappointment
The movie struggled in all areas aside from its comedic relief character. I am a huge Borderlands video game fan and this is the single most excited I have ever been for a movie. However, this movie was rough. It failed to seize upon any of the things that make the games so well liked: Loot, crazy dialogue, great writing, loot. I like Cate Blanchett and I was very excited to see her in this role. But it was not for her. The angsty old lady girl boss was cringe throughout. I don't like Kevin Hart but he actually did great as Roland. Kreig was a barely tapped great-potential character. Claptrap made the movie watchable and made me laugh atleast a handful of times. It was not a great movie for the video game fans. It was not a great movie for non video game fans. Overall if I wasn't a big Borderlands fan already and I didn't like the Claptrap Humor, this movie would have barely been watchable.
Resident Evil (2022)
Normal low budget weak storyline
I really enjoy the Resident Evil film series and video games but this is so off the mark. D list acting. Boring story. Just concerned with hitting usual agendas with casting etc. Nothing to see here. So much potential from this franchise and this show and the animated show have been very disappointing. How do these writers and producers not understand what people want?
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Top Tier Marvel Quality
I don't really see what there is to dislike about this movie. I have seen all the MCU films and this would be in my top 5. It was hilarious, interesting and exciting. I loved that Korg got his screen time. It did have 3 flaws: The main villian was missed potential and should have trusted the comic aesthetic with character and weapon, another very significant character who led the gods had bad dialogue and accent, and third was the agenda was annoying and obvious in the film. I hate being cryptic but avoiding all spoils.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Decent quality squandered potential
This rating is piggybacking on the fact that this show is based in the amazing world of Star Wars and uses one of the best heroes from that universe as a main character. The quality is decent nothing special. So many more interesting stories from comics in the time of his exile than this. Reva is poorly acted. Plot is pretty good. Casting was fine. If Obiwan were not the main character i would struggle to give this show even a 7/10. Hope to see another season based in the comics.
Tenkû Shinpan (2021)
Great Concept Average Execution
I loved the concept but the storytelling was not very good. Characters were pretty good. The show is really pervy. I will not be watching a second season.
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
Most Over-Rated Anime I Have Ever Seen
The two main male characters english dub voices are awful. There are plently of plotholes and over dramatization. Tons of bad dialogue and silly moments.
Hunter x Hunter (2011)
Pretty Good, A Little Over-rated
There are about 6 story arcs. The first is pretty good, the second is great, the third is great, the fourth is kinda bad, the fourth is a mixed bag but really drug out not very good, and the last is pretty good. I did not care for the main character or their closest relative. Definently missed some things and drug other things out. Some boring groups of characters at times. Killawah and Hisoka were great.
The Batman (2022)
Pretty Good Young Batman Material
To really enjoy this you need to realize this is young batman in his first years. He doesnt fit the Batman style/persona we see so often yet. The major problem i had with the film was the villian. He was not well acted, voiced, or well written. His motive and methodology changes completely and he starts doing things that really contradict his message. With an average villian, this movie would be so much better. Sad i dont have more to say as i am a huuge Batman fan.
Diabolical (2022)
What a disappointment
The boys TV seasons both one and two are amazing and probably my favorite TV show. I love animation action and animation comedy. But there is no other way to say it this show is horrible. The voice acting is fine. The animation is average at best. The storytelling, characters, dialogue are awful. It's smothered in senseless violence and gore with no purpose and no actual storytelling. I don't mind the gore if it would actually serve any sort of purpose besides just some sort of failed shock value that doesn't contribute to a story at all. So sad to see this big failure. The IP alone should have carried it to at least a seven out of ten. Can't believe they goofed it up this bad. I struggled to get through it and I was super excited about it.
The Cuphead Show! (2022)
Way More Potential
I was so excited for the show. It had extremely high potential. The show has top-tier animation art style. That is the only thing that could keep me watching this show. It is geared completely for kids. Is most accurately a simple combination of SpongeBob and Mickey Mouse sadly. Not to say it is not original as it is very much so. They could have easily made something that still didn't have any mature content but was much more appealing and drawing in story to adult audience as well. There are some occasional notably clever and great dilague quicks and moments.
The New Batman Adventures (1997)
Top-tier Writing
Animated DC doesn't get much better than this. Great animation. Great stories. No problem with voice acting. The one flaw of the show is the first half of season 2 as it is really weak. Great usage of a variety of villains throughout. Great depiction of Batgirl. They could have done with the mention of the Robin before the current one. Very good show.
The Legend of Vox Machina (2022)
Initial Impression: Somehow Already Way Over-rated
Come on this show is average quality plot and dialogue. If audiences didnt know who was behind making it, it wouldn't be successful at all. This is a prime example of reception based on "what it is" and not on "how good it is". The show has good animation and a great concept but the plot, characters, and dialogue are all really lacking. I was super excited for this show and have been dissappointed. So much missed potential. The show is average. In reality its not doing anything more than the average anime or animated action/comedy. People are giving the show top tier ratings because it comes from a source they really like. So much source bias in movies and tv shows.
Batman: Year One (2011)
Darkest Gotham Yet
Pretty good movie. Really dark Gotham depiction and pretty dark thematically. Interesting choice for Batman voice and dialogue but not bad. No altrustic characters besides Batman which i did not like. The other masked character in the movie had really stupid and useless arc.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015)
Suprising Good
Great animation. No problems with voice acting. Plot wasnt super interesting but good. Not really any plot holes. Nathan Fillion is awesome. Good ending.
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020)
One of the Best Animated DC Movies
Great movie. Plot ran well. Good ending. Great voice acting. Good character designs. Pretty much nothing bad to say about this movie. Okay since magic took some of the theme, i would have loved to see Doc Fate.
Injustice (2021)
So Much Potential
Sad to see so much missed potential. It seems most of the characters got some poorly done (and very unnessecary) redesigns (downgrades) and new worse voice actors out of nowhere. On of the worst renditions of animated Joker to date which is wild considering how significant his role in this film is. Wonder Woman's character probably suffered most of all in redesign and a dialogue and arc that dont fit her character at all. This film is what happened when someone has an awesome concept to work with and just gets too giddy and doesnt put the work and time in to do a throrough job. Also death is responded to super oddly and non-sensibly most of the time in the film. It's like my teammate just died well i guess i wont change my expression or acknowledge it and just continue doing my thing. The concept carries this movie. If not for the super interesting main concept this movie would be straight up bad.
Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (2019)
Great Writing
Awesome dialogue and good character choices aside from the lame half robot half man. Animation was fine. Good story. No real plot holes. Nice little cameos early on too.
Justice League: Doom (2012)
Awesome Concept
Great concept. Poor asthetic design for cyborg. Mirror man made no sense. I love Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan. Some plot holes and things that made no sense.
Eternals (2021)
A Nod To Current Times
This movie feels like it might have not even happened if not for fan service. This movie is a cry to stay relevant and show hey we are adult stuff too and come on with the sex scene, Marvel hasnt needed it before they dont need it now. Pointless addtion. As usual with Marvel films the writing is never bad and the dialogue isnt bad because the have the budget so all marvel films are average at best aside from a handful out of the now like 25 films. However this movie has a few small plot holes which did suprise me. In the last year with tv shows and movies, marvel has gotten pretty lazy never remember catching stuff like that before. The deviants were super boring in design and plot not interesting at all. Having seen all marvel films to date, this falls in the bottom half.
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure (1984)
Decent Kids Movie At Best
The main actor is bad. He feels like they found the closest thing they could to a 12yr old Mark Hamill. The kid is the most repetitive dialogue character i have ever seen in a film. He repeated every other line like 2-3x. The best part was definently the Wispies. Also they took a big knock at Star Wars world building/lore with like 3 quarters of the creatures all being no effort real animals like horses. The few creatures they did use special effects with they did a good job. Not much to say pretty boring. As of now in 2022, I believe there are a total of 15 Star Wars films including animated (i have seen them all now) and this is undoubtabley the worst. The other ewok adventure wasnt good but it was much better.
