Madtown (2016)
An Emotionally Powerful Movie
This movie has a very powerful story and themes. It goes deep into the human mind and finds how relationships work. The characters are likable and interesting with more to them than what appears on the surface. It is paced very well and is very impressive.
The only issues I have is the score is severely lacking in identity and doesn't feel organic and the ending, while has some very powerful moments, leaves some plot lines unfinished. I would recommend this to nearly anyone, the story (even if you can't find it too relatable) has a lot of things to say about love, family, and your past.
Devil's Gate (2017)
Amazingly Bending Story
This movie is a very well crafted horror film. It has great performances which add to the well done characters. The atmosphere is very mysterious and the story is constantly destroying expectations. While there are a few things I didn't like I was overall very impressed by a movie that I've seen no attention given to.
I would recommend this to any horror or suspense fan. The story is smart and knows what it's doing.
Day of the Dead: Bloodline (2017)
Nothing to Special to See Here
This movie doesn't do all that much to push the envelope of zombie films. The story is only just okay and most of the characters have no personalities. I'd say the second half is where the story and characters improve a bit which made it a little more enjoyable. The acting has some low lows as well.
The zombie design isn't too bad, they have a look that stays true to Romero's film and the gore has some highlights. There are some interesting concepts such as a new look at zombie virus and cure, but the execution isn't very well done.
I would recommend this film only to big zombie fans who want to get there fix, the movie isn't horrible but it edges onto poor. Some of the scenes are decent and the gore is there. But anyone else, I would say give Romero's films a watch or even some of the Return of the Living Dead movies.
The Strange Ones (2017)
Slow and Steady but Entertaining
This film deals with some darker subject matter but it's done quite well. The characters and story is subtle but effective, it's not for everyone but if you stick with it you can find it to be effective. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys slower dramas with meaningful visuals and music with sharp but small dialogue, but just know that it does deal with darker and disturbing subject matter.
