Les Misérables: The Staged Concert (2019)
Unimpressed
Sorry, but I was in the audience for the 10th Anniversary Concert - The Dream Cast, at the Albert Hall, and nothing compares to that. Yes, I'm biased, but even the 25th Anniv' pailed in comparrison ...
This live show was a bit of a let down, lyrics changed, miscasting, I love 'Les Mis' and really tried to enjoy, but nope. I know my comments will undoubtedly annoy or upset, but there ya go ... As good (?) as Alfie Boe is, he's no Colm Wilkinson who played Valjean in the original cast, same for Michael Ball, he was so good as Marius but as Javert, yikes! ... As for casting Matt Lucas as Thénardier. Why they couldn't have asked Alun Armstrong is beyond me!
Nothing could beat the 10th Anniversary Concert, they wasn't called the 'Dream Cast' for nothing in my humble opinion.
There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane (2011)
So much Loss, so much Denial
I have to say that my heart goes out to the families, losing a family member is hard enough, but when it's Children, it goes beyond words.
That said, I just can't get past the complete DENIAL of Diane's family.
Vodka doesn't miraculously materialise in the blood on crashing, nor alas does Marijuana. It got there somehow, and maybe the Family need to accept that small detail.
Would it give them closure, impossible to say, but I don't think so.
VERY well made and thought our documentary, showing due care and concideration for all involved.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Dismal
As a MASSIVE 'Star Trek' fan ... From Kirk's first steps, to TNG, DS9, VOY, & even ENT which all had their merits... I was so looking forward to a new outlook on the Trek Universe.
Alas, from the first episode of Discovery, with a Starship that looked like a 4 yr old had drawn it, to the completely unrealistic and unbelievable crew, and plotlines that only a burntout 'cabbage' could come up with. It went down hill so fast I had a nose bleed!
So must expectation.
I have the feeling Gene would be turning in his grave at what people have done with his masterpiece 😢
Stargate SG-1: The Shroud (2007)
Edgey
This episode was great, Danel as a pryor was a little unnerving as he played the role so well apart from the initial interaction with O'Niel ... And talking O'Niel, (due to my OCD) I was getting SO frustrated with the constant continuity re rank insignia (flitting from 1 Star Brigadier General, to 2 star Major General) so many times, it completely distracted me from thoroughly enjoying the episode, finding myself just looking for Jack's rank from scene to scene ... I hope that whoever did the continuity is in alternate employment, or has at least learned to count up to TWO.
That said, I did enjoy the episode and it kept you waiting until the last moment as to which way it was going to go.
Stardust (2020)
Embarrassing!
I'll keep this short ... As a MASSIVE Bowie fan, I was shocked and embarrassed. David would be turning in his grave to see the utter drivel being throw out here. It belongs in a bin, a very deep bin!
They clearly went for the idea that their so-called lead actor (never heard of him btw) would look nothing like, nor sound remotely like, Bowie, alas, that's the only aspect of the film they succeeded in.
You have to applaud David's family for not wanting anything to do with this tripe !!!
Cosmic Sin (2021)
AWFUL
I have to ask, HOW did they get Bruce Willis to be in this thing?
It's awful from start to well, I didn't finish watching it because I realised I had some paint drying in another room, so I went to watch that instead.
You can do much better Bruce.
The Haunting (1963)
Utterly Frightening!
I have to admit that the first time I watched this it frightened the life out of me, the suspense, the score, constantly making you look over your shoulder expecting something to be stood behind you! ... The pounding in the film is relentless, making you fear for the very people you are watching, a testament to Robert Wise' direction. There's no one being chopped up, no one dying horribly, just a constant sense that you are going to meet a terrible end at any moment.
Julie Harris as Eleanor, always seemingly on the verge of a nervous breakdown is exceptional, as in fact are all the actors.
Even now, almost FIFTY SEVEN years later, it still knocks anything we remotely class as 'Horror' into the bin.
There have been several versions of the Hill House Haunting, but this beats them all for shear edge of seat terror.
If you don't watch another horror, then you MUST WATCH THIS !!!
