Devil in Ohio (2022)
Never gets beyond mediocre
It's hard to say exactly where this series goes wrong. Either durable to direction, acting or production. The premise should be one to grab your attention but it never seems to do that. The series fails to create any real sense of suspense or tension. Episodes just mosey along at their own pace. It relies heavily on the sound track to build tension but eventually it has the opposite effect of simply being annoying. Despite having some excellent actors the characters seem wooden and stiff. Half the time they seem to be whispering orspeaking in softer tones than the scenes demand. The sets often seem too bright and cheery for the dramatic tension they're trying to build. Overall the entire series feels as if someone described what an occult thriller is to hallmark movies.
Down with the King (2021)
Better than some would have you believe
I didn't have any problem understanding the dialogue in this film. I would suggest anyone who did may not be a native english speaker.
I have seen farms run like this.
The actors were top notch. Anyone saying they weren't doesn't know what they're talking about. Just look at the imdb profiles of the actors.
I would maybe suggest that some people who have a problem with the actors and the film may have in reality problems with race.
Loot (2022)
Unrealistic
If Elon Musk and Space X has taught us anything, underlings who criticize the behaviour of billionaires don't get to keep their jobs. While I appreciate the feel good comedy attempt, many of the jokes simply don't land and the idea of a poor little rich girl in these times is simply out of touch.
American Auto (2021)
Why not just get ed helms instead of an ed helms type
Every time I see this guy all I can think of is Ed Helms and house he's not him. The more I watch the more it takes me out of the show. Mind you it does seem they are trying to put the office into an auto company setting.
White Famous (2017)
Balanced
This show is perfectly balanced. It is neither funny nor unfunny. It has likable characters but an unlikable protagonist. I neither like nor dislike this show.
I tuned into this sow because of Jay Pharoah. His work on Saturday night live was funny and clever. It was a surprise to find his character the only unlikable one on the show. His character is a spoiled child who fights kicking and screaming against any kind of success and treats every white person as a racist. Given the climate in America today I can understand the want and need to confront racism no matter how subtle. Granted, the show does make some relevant points about race relations in today's culture. Unfortunately White Famous uses tired examples to try and make its point and Pharoah's character uses EVERY opportunity to confront a white person about it.
I find it hard to believe that a stand up comic would fight so hard against his own success. He whines to his agent about every part and piece of work offered and when he finally does get a good opportunity he acts as if it is beneath him.
The show itself contains some likable characters like Pharoah's agent and his room mate Balls. It was a surprise to find the protagonist so annoying.
While the show isn't laugh out loud funny it is amusing and has some great potential. If it can rise above the stale jokes and premises it is currently using it could be a great show. Until then I think this show is perfectly balance, hanging in the limbo of amusing.
Disjointed (2017)
just plain bad
Disjointed is an apt title for this series. The comedic scenes, the dramatic scenes and the canned laughter do not come together to blend seamlessly, rather this show seems like a mishmash of forced jokes, stereotypical and 1 dimensional characters and dramatic themes that are surrounded by a laugh track that is both out of place and annoying. I gave this series a try after reading a good review by another poster, but Kathy Bates can't save this awful awful show. Trust me it does not get better as the series progresses.
