Ricky (1986)
Worst movie to be associated with Manoj Kumar ever!
This is the worst movie "made" by Manoj Kumar ever. One can't imagine that this movie had the man of "Roti, Kapada aur Makaan", "Shor", "Purab aur Pachhim" and "Kranti" behind it. Compared to this movie his "Clerk" is a masterpiece!
Though not directed by Manoj Kumar this movie was "concetualised" by Manoj Kumar as the credits mention.
The film features Kunal Goswami in the main lead. Now Kunal is no Manoj Kumar but he does look like his dad a bit so sometimes one gets the feeling of looking at a younger Manoj Kumar but... Though to be honest Kunal is not that bad at all. See him in the movie "Kalakaar" for instance which had Sridevi as his leading lady.
This movie also features Nutan, Sharmila Tagore and some of the usual Manoj Kumar movie players like Pran and Prem Chopra. Since this movie was made at the time of Kranti, you have Parveen Babi making a special appearance in a song in this movie wearing her Kranti outfit.
This film was released in the theaters and one company released it on home video. It has since never been rereleased and never been released on dvd or vcd. If you still want to watch the movie I have uploaded it on my YouTube channel.
Perry Mason (2020)
Good series made it unnecessary difficult for itself
Let me start off by mentioning that I am a huge Perry Mason fan. With Perry Mason I mean Earle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason (the lawyer). I have all 82 Perry Mason novels as well as all 9 seasons of the black and white "Perry Mason" series. I have also seen the later made for tv movies but those were okay because... i'll come to that in a moment.
Just like Jack Bauer = Kiefer Sutherland and Kiefer Sutherland is Jack Bauer or Michael J Fox is Alex P Keaton and Alex P Keaton is Michael J Fox and Peter Falk is Columbo and Columbo is Peter Falk there is just one Perry Mason and that is Raymond Burr. There is one Della Street and that is Barbara Hale. And Perry Mason is a lawyer dammit!
The made for tv movies worked because of the nostalgia factor since it had Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale in the lead.
This new series, in my humble opinion, is quite a good series. A kind of "series-noire' so to say. And to be honest I actually like the series.
To be clear : I like the series, the mystery and the performances. What I find distracting is when I hear names like Perry, Della, Tragg, Holcomb, Burger or Paul Drake. That works against the series. If the series had been exactly the same series as it is now but the characters would have other names the series would have been received much better. They made it unnecessary difficult for themselves by naming the series Perry Mason because it is going to be compared with the masterpiece Raymond Burr black ad white series and nothing, and I mean, can compare to that.
If the characters (and show) would have other name(s) there would be automatically at least 1 more star in the rating.
If you can overlook the familiar names and can TRY not to think of Raymond Burr, Barbara Hale, William Hopper, Ray Collins or even William Tallman, one might actually enjoy the series. Could have been a solid 8 stars but because of the above mentioned reason a very solid 7 stars from me
Booo: Sabki Phategi (2019)
A Bollywood - comedy cut into 8 20 minute episodes
So I had seen the trailer of this web-series and liked what I saw. Furthermore the names associated with this "series" made me want to see this series even more: wiriter/director Farhad Samji, Tushar Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra and after a looong time Malika Sherwat.
During the promotion interviews this series was pitched as the comeback of the Tushar Kapoor - Malika Sherwat Jodi.
First of all there is no Tushar - Malika Jodi. They are not even paired "opposite" each other but don't let that spoil the fun.
This "series" is actually a film cut into 8-episodes. You HAVE TO binge the entire thing in one go to stay in the right mood. The film brings back some memories of the Golmaal franchise. Not strange since it is written and directed by the writer of Golmaal and has some Golmaal faces in it as well : Tushar Kapoor and Sanjay Mishra. And my pleasant surprise when the series opens with a scene with Mukesh Tiwari (Vasooli from Golmaal) and the superbly talented and beautiful Ashwini Kalsekar.
This series has to be taken in the right spirit.
The cast is good : Tushar Kapoor is good and even does his "Oooeee Aaaa" bit from Golmaal, the entire gang of friends are okay, Kiku Sharda and Krishna Abhishek the most known from The Kapil Sharma Show.
The only things I thought could have been better were the so-called "sound-effects" which are in all Indian tv shows: after a joke or punch line there is this dumb sound which is supposed to be funny I guess, we don't need that.
Anil Charanjeet does a good job as Sartaj BUT this character is actually based on (or rather a rip-off of) Javed Jaffrey's character from the Dhamaal series. And Javed is a superb actor. It would have been so much nicer if Javed had been cast in this role.
The series is promoted as the comeback of Malika Sherawat. And quite frankly -for me- there was too less of Malika. I would have to have seen more of Malika (no pun intended). This is one lady who is talented, who is beautifulAND who can actually act but still has not got her due in Bollywood and has been ridiculed over and over again. Well Malika rocks!
But the best of all is Sanjay Mishra. For the fans of Rohit Shetty movies: we know Sanjay can crack you up and he does it again here. Every scene he is in is worth rewinding or rewatching as he is superb. However to be able to enjoy this series (and Sanjay Mishra) the most a little knowledge about Bollywood movies and songs is mandatory.Definately worth a watch and hoping for a season 2. Well done
Sharara (1984)
A good one time watch... dated but still worthwhile
So this movie which was a home production of Hema Malini had her, Shatrughan Sinha (a good friend of Dharmendra), RaajKumar (Hema's co star of one of her favourite movies "Kudrat") in the leading roles. Tina Munim and Mithun Chakrevotry (who would later go on to star in Hema her directorial debut as well) are in the movie too. The movie is no Seeta aur Geeta though Hema has a double role. When you watch the movie today it is a bit dated- typical 80s setup. But not that bad that you can't watch it. I wont tell anything about the story so you'll have to see it for yourself. ***SPOILER ALERT*** For me the highpoint of the movie is the murder of Tina Munim and Mithun Chakrevotry! *** END SPOILER***
Sharaabi (1984)
Inspired by...no remake
This is a classic example of how a good movie can be inspired by another movie and not be a remake. Inspired by the Dudley Moore movie Arthur, this Prakash Mehra directed movie is Indianised. And done very well! After Namak Halaal and Muqadder ka Sikander this is my fave Amitabh-Prakash Mehra movie. The movie costars Jaya Pradha, Smita Patil, Pran, Om Prakash, Ranjeet, Satyen Kappu. Even Suresh Oberoi is watchable in a cameo. The guy who was Amitabh jr in Muqadder ka Sikander (Mayur i think) also has a part in this movie. Music by Bappi Lahiri is okay. Dede pyaar de and Mujhe Naulakha manga de re were hits. Def worth a watch. Even worth repeating.
Shart (1986)
great thriller
There are two kind of thrillers. The "whodunnit"or suspense thriller and the psychological thriller. Bollywood has produced quite a few of the first ranging in quality from very, very good (Gumnaam), to good (like 100 Days, remake of The Eyes Of Laura Mars) to plain stupid (too many). Very rarely did they try the latter. But when they did, it turned out to be quite good like Rajesh Khanna's Red Rose and this movie by the nephew of the evergreen Dev Anand, Ketan Anand. Years before Hollywood turned out the serial killer routine movies Ketan Anand made this movie which is about a serial killer. Okay, we know Nasseerudin is the killer and we know why he kills but thats not what the movie is about. In the thriller series Columbo, we know who is the killer, how they did it and that Columbo will catch ye culprit. Bappi Lahiri was great (this was before the Himmatwala days when Bappida still made some great songs), Kanwaljeet and Shabana Azmi are not bad but the movie belongs to Shah! One of the girls whose pictures are on the wall as a victem was the unknown Sonu Walia who would later become an "actress"herself. Well, actress... she appeared in some movies (that doesn't make someone in actor or actress. Worth repeat watching
Tell Me O Kkhuda (2011)
waiting for this for years...
man was i afraid to watch this movie. I thought that Hema Malini would remake the mini series LACE 2 in which Phoebe Cates tries to find out who her father is. I thought this because Hema her first movie as a director DIL AASHNA HAI was a remake of LACE 1. But i was pleasantly surprised. Esha Deol is adopted by Farooque Sheikh and Deepti Naval and tries to find out who her father is Vinod Khanna, Risshi Kapoor or Dharmendra... Esha Deol gives a good performance, one of her best so far, Vinod Khanna is okay, Rishi Kapoor is okay (I am a big Rishi fan, but this is not one of his best movies). They did this movie specially for Hema Malini. But the best part of this movie? Man that is seeing one of the greatest team ever to hit Bollywood together again on screen. I mean Dharmendra and Hema Malini. Seeing them brings back memories of all those classic films. They are a bit older but the chemistry and charm is still there. I hope they do make another movie together
Aradhana (1969)
to each his own
Let me start by saying that this is a masterpiece and arguably Rajesh Kahnna's best film ever along with Anand. The music is legendary and this was also Kishore Kumars comeback movie after actor Om Prakash had cursed him because Kishore would not act in his m ovie. The story about a girl (Sharmila) who falls in love with an army afficer (Rajesh Khanna) who dies while leaving her pregnant was unique in Bollywood. Especially the entry of her son after approx 20 years (also Rajesh Khanna) and the moving climax. I love classic movies and watch black and white movies regularly. Big was my surprise when i saw the movie TO EACH HIS OWN - a black and white gem of a movie in which a girl gets pregnant by an army officer who dies, she has to give up the child and meets him approx 20 years later. But believe it or not the climax of this movie is even better than Aradhana and they don't even use a song like Chanda Hai Tu. You must watch this gem of a movie.
Saagar (1985)
dimple goes topless in this classic
This was supposed to be the movie with which Dimple Kapadia would make her comeback. it had everything going for it. The Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia Jodi, Kamal Hassan right from Ek Duje Ke Liye, a director like Ramesh Sippy (Sholay, Shaan, Shakti, Seeta aur Geeta, Andaz) music by RD Burman but the movie got delayed. The director and Dimple also fell in love but it would not end happily. This movie is a love triangle. Kamal Hassan is in love with his childhood friend Dimple. She sees him as her best friend. Dimple meets Rishi and both fall in love. Rishi and Kamal get to know each other and become friends. When Rishi comes to know that Kamal loves Dimple he scrified his love. But thats not the end. On paper it may sound cliché but this movie is one of the best love stoeries ever. You actually also see Dimple in a topless scene, for a brief moment but the pause button will give youa chance to relive it. The best thing about Ramesh Sippys movies are the death scenes which are always brilliant (Amitabh in Sholay, Sunil Dutt in Shaan, Amitabh in Shakti, Jacjie, Meenakshi, Aditya Pancholi in Akayla,Rajesh Khanna in Andaz) and this movie is no different. The acting is superb as always. Add to it that you have one of the best directors of Bollywood and one of the best actors ever (Rishi Kapoor). Music by RD Burman has evergreen songs by Kishore Kumar, Lata, SP Balasubrahmanium. Songs like Saagar Kinare Dil jeh Pukare are sung even today. Worth a watch over and over again.Rishi kapoor, Dimple, Kamal Hassan, Saeed Jaffrey, Madhur Jaffrey, Nadira, Shafi Imaandaar, Satish Kaushik all are good.
Jhoota Kahin Ka (1979)
typical 70s movie
This is a typical 70s movie with a hit team. 2 brothers get separated at birth, grow up. have a fallout with each other not knowing they are brothers (Rishi Kapoor and Rakesh Roshan), one of them falls in love (Rishi and Neetu Singh), finally get to know they are brothers and get the villains. That was the story for 80% of the film in the 70s. What set the films apart from each other were the production values, the cast and the songs. production values here are good, the cast was great (you had the hit jodi of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh and the lucky pair of Rishi kapoor and Rakesh Roshan after Khel Khel Mein but before their best -Aap Ke Deewane) and the music by RD Burman is good. Especially the Kishore-Asha trach Barah Bajegi Suyon jaise Hum Dono Miljaye. definitely worth a watch
Doosara Aadmi (1977)
Good remake of Ingrid Bergman movie
This movie has several things going for it. For starters it has a nice story (original for a Hindi film). Well, original? It's actually a remake of a Ingrid Bergman movie (i think it was Goodbye Again) also starring that guy from Psycho. In this movie Raakhee Gulzar (in Ingrid Bergmans role) falls for a younger man (Rishi Kapoor) who is engaged to be married (Neetu Singh). But this being a Hindi movie she has a reason : Rishi Kapoor resembles her deads lover Shashi Kapoor (GREAT casting). Parikshat Sahni and Simmi Gare wal give nice support. The cast in this Yash Chopra film (Shashi Kapoor, Raakhee, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Simmi Garewal and Parikshat Sahni is almost the same cast as in Yash Chopras Kabhi Kabhie minus Bachchan and Waheeda). The music in this film by Rajesh Roshan is just great. Evergreen songs bu Kishore, Rafi and Lata. Years later it was remade as Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya with Tabu in Raakhee's role, Govinda in Shashi Kapoors role and Govindas nephew in Rishis role. That movie was a pain in the...
Yeh Vaada Raha (1982)
one of the best remakes ever
This movie by Ramesh Behl (Rose movies) is actually one of the best remakes Bollywood has ever made of a Hollywood movie. Everything in this movie just fell into place. I mean the acting is superb, the casting is very good, the cast itself is phenomenal. But then again we are talking about Rishi Kapoor so that should be normal, the guy is always good even if the movie isn't. Rishi Kapoor is the son of a rich Raakhee Gulzar. He falls in love with a poor singer, Poonam Dhillon. They want to get married. At first Raakhee objects but finally agrees. Before they get married they get in a car accident and Poonam her face get smashed. Rishi thinks she has died and Raakhee has her sent away so that Rishi can get married to another rich girl Sarika (okay so the movie isn't perfect). Shammi Kapoor, a doctor, performs plastic surgery on Poonam and after he does she becomes Tina Munim. When Rishi and Tina meet something happens. Rishi cant explain why but he wants to be close to her not knowing Tina is actually Poonam. Nice thing is that Poonam and Tina have the same voice in the movie. Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan had dubbed for both actresses and it works very very well. All the songs sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle under music direction of RD Burman are evergreen classics : Milgayee Aaj Kuch Lehren, Aesa Kabhi Huwa Nahin, Jeene Ko Toh Jeete Hai Sabhi but the best of the lot is the title song TU TU HAI WOHI DILNE JISE APNA KAHAN TU HAI JAHAN MAIN HOON WAHAN ABE TOH JEH JEENA TERE BIN HAI SAZAA which gets remixed even today. Watch this movie, better, buy this movie
Puraskar (1970)
b a d
Though i like Joy Mukherjee films, at least some of them, this movie is really, really, really bad! The general idea of this movie has been done to death in Hindi movies (most recently in the Amitabh classic Hum with Kadar khan in the scientist role) but this movie not only takes the cake, it takes the kitchen! The general premise of the movie is taken from a Paul Newman / Edward Robinson classic. But whats more the title of this movie Puruskaar is a direct lift of that movie which is titled The Prize. Puruskaar is very cheap, amateurish and has really BAD acting. Besides Joy Mukherjee the movie stars I.S. Johar, Farida Jalaal and the always pleasing Faryal. Like those Biswajeet movies from yore, the hero is a secret agent trying to solve a case. I wont even go into the case... save yourself some money (or if you d......d movies, save yourself time and do not , i repeat, do not watch this movie.
Nishana (1980)
typical 80s fare
This movie is just a typical 80s movie which is NO classics by any means. Dr Shreeram Lagoo has a munim, Utpal Dutt who wants a necklace. He kidnappes Lagoos wife and murders her, blames the murder on Pradeep Kumar and then kills him. Years later Lagoos daughter Poonam Dhillon meets and falls in love with Jeetendra who is the son of Pradeep Kumar. Utpall Dutt wants his son Prem Chopra to marry Poonam. Also Jayshree T is in the movie along with Asrani who overacts but Jayshree T is always nice on the eyes. No great songs either. If you have nothing to do and actually enjoy really bad movies, you might want to watch this one. Warning : this is not one of those movies which is so bad its actually fun to watch (like Dev Anand movies from the 80s and 90s), this movie is plain BAD.
Censor (2001)
dev anand special
This is another one of the Dev Anand specials from the 80s and 90s. The story is chaotic. The movie stars Dev Anand, Mink, Anita Ayub (from Pakistan), Ajit, Anil Dhawan, Bindu, Deepak Tijori, mamta Kulkarni, Jogindar, Arjun, Sudhir, Alok Nath, Rakesh bedi, Navneet Nishan and others. The film is so bad that its actually fun. The story, as far as there is one, is about Ajit who falsely accuses Dev of rape and gets him in prison and his sons who rape girls. Dev comes out 12 years later and together with his discoverys who are rape victims take revenge on Ajit and his sons. Not many familiar faces like in Sache Ka Boil Bala (which was actually fun), Awwal Number or the worst Dev film, Censor, but fun nonetheless
Khud-Daar (1982)
Classic
This movie of Amitabh's is undoubtely one of his classics though it is not as famous as other Bachchan classics as Deewaar, Trishul, Kabhi Kabhie, Sholay, Shaan, Shakti, Satte pe Satta, Kasme Vaade or others. This is unfortunate cause the movie is very good. Produced by Mehmood's brother Anwar Ali and directed by Lekh Tandon with a classic score by Rajesh Roshan this movie has songs by Kishore Kumar, Lata, Amit Kumar. All the songs are classics like Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain Ke I Love You, Mach Gaya Shor, Disco 82, Oonche Neeche Raaste, Hatja Baju and Maa Ka Pyar (not in the movie). The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Tanuja, Parveen babi, Vinod Mehra, Bindiya Goswami, Prem Chopra, Ramesh Deo, Mehmood, AK Hangal and others. The story revolves around 3 brothers played by Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh and Vinod. Sanjeeb is the older brother who dotes on his 2 young stepbrothers. When he marries Tanuja she gets jealous of their bond and the 2 younger brothers run away from home. Amitabh sacrifies everything to get Vinod an education and it seems that everything will turn out right. Then Vinod gets to know rich girl Bindiya Goswami and Amitabh's world falls apart when his brother chooses money over him. Amitabh also meets his older brother by now who is a judge but Sanjeev doesn't recognise him though there is a friendship between the 2 older brothers. Watch when a murder is committed, Amitabh is arrested and tried in court where Sanjeev is the judge. All the performances are first rate. Vinod, Bindiya, AK Hangal. But the movie belongs to Sanjeev Kumar (though in a supportung role) and Amitabh, the main character. These movies don't get made anymore. Amitabh can make you laugh by just saying " yes" (in the Can You Tell Me What Time It Is -scene" and he can make you cry with his taxi. A great film you must watch!
Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974)
the best
Along with Kranti definitely one of Manoj Kumars best movies. And also on e of the best movies ever made in India. Also this is the first movie that co starred the later hit jodi of Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi kapoor (not counting the movie Bombay Talkies in which Shashi was the leading man and Amitabh an extra whos scene had been cut from the movie). A great cast compromsing of Manoj Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi kapoor, Zeenat Aman, Moushumi Chatterjee, Dheeraj Kumar, Madan Puri, Kamini Kaushal, Raza Murad, Aruna Irani, Manmohan and many many others. The story has a few subplots which are done very well. Though Amitabh Bachchan has a supporting role of maybe 50 to 60 minutes max, he is the scenestealer! As usual! The role portryed by premNath was written for and offered to Pran who turned it down because he had just played a similar role in Amitabh's Zanjeer. Manoj Kumar could not handle this and never offered Pran another role again. The songs are all good but the best of the lot is actually Main Na Bhoolunga (part 2).
Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi (1982)
the first Bollywood sequel
This is actually one of the true first Bollywood sequels ever courtesy of the genius Kishore Kumar. A sequel to the smashhit Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi without Madhubala whom had already died. Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anup Kumar are joined by Kishore his son Amit Kumar (in the movie the son of Ashok Kumar), Pradeep Kumar (who had been Madhubala's hero in her own production of Mehlon Ke Khwab - a remake of Marilyn Monroes How To Marry A Millionaire- which had Kishore Kumar as the second hero opposite Madhubala's sister). The 3 brothers don't have a garage in this movie but have a hotel now where ghosts are freightning the guests. Or are they? Also the wife of Ashok Kumar has left him (Nirupa Roy) taking with her their son (Amit Kumar). Though the bhabhi and the 2 devars (Kishore and Anup) still have contact. The brothers try to reunite their brother with his estranfed wife and their son while trying to investigate the ghosts that haunt their hotel. Produced, directed and music by the genius himself, Kishore Kumar
Badaltey Rishtey (1978)
Rishi negative???
In the 90's there was this movie Khoj (a remake of Dhuaan) in which Rishi kapoor is a killer/villain and of course you also have the movie Kuch Toh Hai (also with jeetendra) in which Rishi is one of the villains. But not in this movie. Though you think that he is right upto the last 2 minutes of this movie. Rishi and Reena are in love. A priest tells them that when Reena marries her husband will die in 40 days. They decide to let her marry Jeetendar who is also in love with Reena so when he dies they can get together. But after marriage while trying to kill Jeetendra Reena comes to see that she really has fallen in love with her husband. Now Rishi is trying to kill Jeetendar all byhimself. or is he? A nice movie. The first time that best friends Rishi and Jeetendra were in a movie together. After this they would team up again in movies like Sheshnaag, Dosti Dushmani, Dildaar eYaar
Kranti (1981)
best patriotic film ever
This movie along with Roti, Kapada aur Makaan is amogst Manoj Kumars best ever! The script by Salim Javed, the music by Laxmikant Pyarelaal, the direction by Manoj Kumar himself and all of the actors (Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi, Dheeraj Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Prem Chopra, Kunal Goswami, Sulochna and Kamini Kaushal amongst others) are perfect. A lost and found styory set during the independence struggle it just doesn't get better than this. Manoj is really Bharat! Detail : Kamini Kaushal who has been Manoj his screen mom in all the films Manoj made was also in this movie but not as his mom. That role went to Nirupa Roy. And the reason was that Dilip Kumar was playing the role of Manoj his father (the two of them were the leading men in Aadmi also, both in love with Waheeda Rehmaan), and Dilip and Kamini Kaushal had an affair 20 to 30 years before this movie that did not end well. Actually it caused quite a riot in its day because she was a hindu and he a Muslim. Back to the film, all the songs are gems but the best of the lot is Lata and Nitin Mukesh's (father of Neil Nitin Mukesh) Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi, Pyaar Karle Ghadi Do Ghadi
Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke (2004)
woth watching for other reasons
Okay, up front Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke is not worth watching if you just want to watch a nice love story. But it is woth watching if you are Hindi cinema lover like i am and you know more about the film. Like earlier mentioned this film was started in 1992 with SRK and Raveena when they were newcomers. The film got shelved. 10 years later SRK is a big name (i wont go into the fact if THAT is justified or not yhough he is no Amitabh bachchan or Rishi Kapoor) and the film gets completed with another cast and is released. They throw in the scenes of SRK to make money. This is not the firt time this sort of thing happened. They did the same to the film Yaar Meri Zindagi with Amitabh Bachchan. The film started during his Bansi and Birju days and was released only 25 years later with Shatrughan Sinha making a fool of himself by shooting for this film for 3 decades. They did to Bachchan what they did to SRK in this movie.Another unreleased film was Rishi Kapoor's Chirag. What they did was they reshot al Rishis scenes with Govinda and took all the scenes he was not in and released the film as Beti No.1. We might even get another SRK movie like this because just like Jadoo (this movies original name in 1992)another soundtrack of a SRK movie was released in 1994 with music by Rakesh Roshan. The movie was Kisise Pyar Karke Dekho and SRK had shot for the film. The heroines were madoo and Ayesha Jhulka. But at least that movie has great songs by Asha Bhonsle, Pankaj Udhas, Sadhana Sargam, Mohd Aziz and others
Namumkin (1988)
Lesser Hrishikesh Mukherjee
One might actually not believe this but this movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukeherjee, the maker of films like Anand, Musafir, Bawarchi, Namak haraam, Alaap, Satyakam, Chupke Chupke and Milli. Though this movie is nothing compared to those masterpieces, it is worth watching. The story starts with Dr. Shreeraam Lagoo killing himself on his wedding night after discovering that his newlywed wife, Zeenat Aman, is actually his long lost daughter. In India Vinod Mehra and Raj babbar are searching for Vinod Mehra's girlfriend, Zeenat Aman, who has disappeared. They meet Sanjeev Kumar who tells them the story of 3 young friends and what they went through. Now the 3 friends are old, Sanjeev Kumar, Dr Shreeraam Lagoo and Om Shivpuri and this has something to do with Zeenat. The story sounds far more interesting on paper than it actually is. Still the movie gets 5 out of 10 for Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Sanjeev Kumar, the music by R. D. Burman and the Kishore Kumar gem Bahut Door Hoke, Bahut Paas Ho Tum.
Faraar (1975)
Not AB's best
This is definitely not one of Amitabh's best movies though worth seeing. The story revolves around Amitabh who kills the rapist of his sister, is arrested and sentenced to the death penalty. He escapes from jail and hides in the house of Sanjeev Kumar, his wife and their son. Now Sanjeev Kumar's wife is Sharmila Tagore who was Amitabh's girlfriend before she married Sanjeev. By the way, Sanjeev is a police inspector who is supposed to arrest the big B. This movie has two endings. One, Amitabh gets shot in the end and is rushed to the hospital and survives and goes to jail. Second, Amitabh is shot in the end and dies. Popular song " Main Pyaasa Tum Saawan".
Adalat (1976)
underrated Bachchan classic
This movie is much better than many people think. Story : Amitabh is a simpleton in a village with a wife, Waheeda Rehman, and a sister. 3 guys from the city come (Anwar Hussain, Sujit Kumar and another one) andtell Bachchan to come to the city and they will help him. Bachchan and Waheeda get a son and movie to the city where the 3 guys rape his sister, sent Amitabh to jail and much more happens to him. Emotionally devastated Amitabh kills them and becomes an underworld don. Years later the son, Amitabh again, wants to marry his girlfriend Neetu Singh. That when things take a turn. Watch out for an yet unknown Kadar Khan as inspector Khan who wants to arrest bachchan senior but is also his friend as he has seen the transformation in Bachchan happen in front of his eyes. One of the few movies in which not Kishore but Mukesh sings for Bachchan. And the songs are known till date " Humka aisa waisa na samjho" , " Kung Fu" and the classic " Behna o Behna Teri Doli Main" are some of the songs. A tearjerker!
Sau Crore (1991)
Sau Crore, well it's Dev Anand
You've got to hand it to the man, even if you are not such a big Dev fan as i am. Dev Anand is one the great three of yore, Dillip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand. Dilip gave nothing back to the industry, Raj Kapoor gave some films but more important gave us Randhir Kapoor, Shashi kapoor, Shammi kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and above all Rishi Kapoor. But Dev Anand gave us his films. Every film again and again had a topical issue. And nowadays paople say that a film is ahead of its time, Dev Anands movies are at least a decade ahead of its time. He even made a cricketfilm Awwal Number with... Aamir Khan! This movie stars himself and Nasserudin Shah and one of his forgettable finds Fatima Sheikh. Worth seeing also for the songs by Bappi lahiri sung by Amit Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar amongst others
