The Wheel of Time (2021)
The first 3 episodes fail to grab your full attention...
The Wheel of Time adaptation launched its shaky foundations and I immediately dove in, having been anticipating the release for months. Despite my excitement, the first 3 episodes couldn't hold my attention. The suspenseful parts felt lacking and the CGI was laughable. Trollocs should have been a mix of practical effects and CGI. Here's hoping the next 5 episodes are more interesting.
American Rust (2021)
Slow start, worth it toward the end
This show started off slow and I almost called it quits after the second episode, but I love Jeff Daniels in serious roles and I wanted to give it a real chance. I'm really glad I did. Here we are at episode 9 and it's totally paid off in full, though the show picked up earlier than that. I think the critics rushed to judgement on it.
Foundation (2021)
Visually stunning with nonsensical writing
I was looking forward to this show for months, I read the first two books in anticipation and fell in love with how intelligent Asimov's short stories were. Asimov managed to create thrill and suspense without relying on violence to pull you in, which is no easy feat. These stories were well thought out puzzles that you watched unfold, the show, is..... not. The writers seem to have traded in the enchanting twists for the insanely boring. I don't care about the characters, I'm not convinced by the acting, which is a bummer because I do love Lee Pace. I feel obligated to say I have no dog in the gender switching fight. The character's genders had no pertinence to the story so I was not bothered.
