Memory (2022)
Solid Movie
It might not be the best action thriller but it's still good entertaining. This genre usually doesn't care too much about much dialogues and this movie doesn't too but at least there are some. That it isn't a constant stream of shootings and fightings does help to enjoy it, at least it helped me. And since the contract killer loses his memory (alzheimer) while he turns into the good guy who kills the bad guys, he certainly is one of the most likeable characters in it. Liam Neeson and Guy Pearce play there parts as professional as the rest of the cast. And that's why this movie is worth watching even if it lacks real good dialogues imho.
The Drover's Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson (2021)
Too slow
I like good build ups, don't need action and prefer good dialogues over special effects. I love good stories. But I bearly could focus since this story is told way too slow for me. And the constant stream of music didn't help either. I won't say more because it was said in other reviews already. Reviews are always personal views though.
Blindfire (2020)
Very good Indie-Film
After reading the very opposing reviews and ratings from 1/10 to 10/10 I needed to watch this movie, where the late Halyna Hutchins was the director of photography. I didn't know anything about the 2017 Wichita swatting and fatal shooting before I started this movie. I only found out about it after searching for it when I read that the movie was based on real events. When I started the movie, it had me from the first moment. I think it was very well acted and directed. It sure is no movie for people who need action from start to end plus tons of special effects. This movie is no such film, it is closer to reality and still so well entertaining, it's dramatic, it's gripping, and it's telling a real story. So it is a very important movie. I'll leave it to future audiences to judge wether the police officer is racisst or not. The movie leaves us this decision and I must say it is thought triggering and sure a good base to start discussions. Long story short: I really enjoyed watching it and I can only recommend it to those who look for good quality of the art of movies rather then for boom boom crash boom bang.
Let Him Go (2020)
Boring but brutal. Not a total waste of time but not really worth it.
Only the good acting is worth watching this film imho. The movie is slow. Too slow if you ask me. The first third I thought it is about grief and how the couple will cope with it. I thought it might show how difficult a loss is for a relationship. But then it sloooowly came to light that this is more about - yes what? Abduction? Custoday battle? How things were back in the days? Brutal families? The violence in this movie is unnecessarily brutal hence why it is exaggerated. Not really what I expected when I read who's playing the main parts. To me it's more a horror movie than anything else.
The Dressmaker (2015)
A FEST FOR EYE AND EARS
Wow! What a brilliant movie! Admittedly a bit skewed, a bit exaggerated probably, a bit grotesque, but what a show, what outstanding acting, fantastic soundtrack, brilliant pictures, beautiful dresses! It got 4 AACTA awards and they were well deserved: best costumes, best supporting actor+actress (Hugo Weaving and Judy Davis), best actress (Kate Winslet). Nominee in many more categories. But the Oscars missed it out completely lol. What a beauty is Kate Winslet? Not in a modern, easily forgotten way. In the classic way! She's a feast for the eyes and so is her acting.
Hatton Garden (2019)
So much better than the movie "King of thieves"
British mini-serieses about true stories are almost always worth to watch. This is certainly one of them. There is not much to spoil since this is a true story and everyone who googles for the title will get the whole story. This mini-series is more than well done. The cast is on point, the story well told. Good entertainment too. I watched the movie "King of thieves" only two weeks ago and I thought it was very boring but this mini-series is so much better. Just watch it ;-)
Lucifer (2016)
Season 4 is the best !!!
I was disappointed by season 3, I thought this show is done, this is it. But whaaaam, they did come back with the best. A bit more serious, a bit more profound, a bit more emotions and a bit less slapstick and ridiculous stories. This is it. This is the best season. I am so happy that I didn't give up on this show. They payed me back my loyalty. Well done you all. Great job. Keep it coming like that.
Unplanned (2019)
Propanganda at it's worst
Technically well done. But it's so pathetic that I wouldn't have been suprised if a huge halo would have started to glow on the "illuminated" womans head. I won't waste more of my time with saying more to this hypocritical thing.
The Rookie: Greenlight (2019)
Great but sad episode - with one thing that could have been better
I don't want to spoil anything here but this episode is fantastic. Only the "background music" got on my nerves since it was partly so loud, I could barely understand what the actors said. I love music and it's very important to underline the atmosphere but here it was just over the top. Beside that: bravo!
Little Wings (2008)
Watched it for Libby Tanner
I was looking for movies with Libby Tanner. It is a pity that short films are so hard to find as they're rarely to see anywhere but at festivals. This little movie was uploaded on youtube and vimeo, so I could eventually watch it. It is a lovely short movie, better than most to be fair. Only because the quality of both picture and sound on those uploaded copies I can't give more than 7 stars as it is very distracting. The only good sound is that from the soundtrack and that never makes a pause - which also is a minus. But I still want to recommend this cute little story.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
How is this such a high rated movie?
I don't waste my time with critics and that's why I watch movie without being influenced and without any expectations. But there is such a hype about this movie that I am afraid my expectations might have been to high. What I saw was a superficial movie about a man we all got to know by attending live concerts, watching documentaries about and with him, listening to his music, reading books and stories about him etc etc. But I missed him in this movie. I never saw him anywhere. I am sorry but it is NOT enough to have a similar haircut as he had or a similar moustache. And it is certainly NOT enough to put those horrible teeth in one actors mouth. One can see that Rami Malek doesn't feel comfortable with these enormous things in his mouth. He looked like a beaver. Yes, Freddie had big teeth but to him it was a part of him, for Rami it obviously was like an alien eliment in his mouth. The only moments when I spotted Freddie here and then were the scenes on stage, especially the last bit on Live Aid. I loved that they showed the deep love, care and loyality of Freddie and Mary. And that we saw a bit of his relationship with Jim Hutton. But I don't remember any mentioning of Peter Straker. His obessive time in Munich was a little sideswipe in the movie but was the time when he outlived his sexuality to the fullest. The movie is full of the outstanding music of Queen and I enjoyed that but sorry: I can listen to their music whenever I want and don't need to go to the cinema for that. This movie entertaines 80% with the music of Queen. The rest is devoted to Freddie, his band colleagues, his family, his friends, his lovers, his outcoming - everything. And I think this is way too few. Also the last years when he worked and worked and wrote songs like "who wants to live forever" and "the show must go on" which were a testament, a statement, a message - no mentioning of it. Huge gap of his life. How disappointing. But then it is all about expecations. I thought this movie was devoted to Freddies life but instead it is like a ongoing concert with the greatest hits and bits and bites of his life inbetween. If someone is interested in his life, I'd highly recommend on the many documentaries coz there you'll see more of him and his spirit. Rami Malek tried but Freddie was too unique, too special with too big shoes for him to fill. Long story short: watch a documentary, watch the interviews on youtube, listen to Freddie and what he had to say and listen to his music. This music doesn't dignify his legacy.
Edie (2017)
Sheila Hancock: 10 stars
If it was only about rating the acting of this wonderful actress I would have given 10 stars. She alone is worth watching this inspiring movie. It could have a bit more wit and some more pace here and there but beside that, it is a beautiful movie to tell us not to wait for better times and instead doing what we dream of. The fantastic scenery of Scotland is also helping and so is Kevin Guthrie, who plays the very helpful guide authentically.
Die göttliche Ordnung (2017)
Perfect mirrow of the life in small villages in the 70ies
What a movie. Once again Marie Leuenberger proved how varialbe her acting is. Like in "Die Standesbeamtin" she got the leading role here but this time it isn't her character which got all of the focus and it is good that it isn't. This movie is about the women back then and how they were treaten by their husbands. I knew worse tbh. I was a child back then but I remember well how my father acted and compared to what they portray in this movie, the movie isn't hard enough. It is diplomatic and portrays the men with a lot of mercy. But this is good for the entertainment. For those who think equality and the right to vote for women is usual this movie is a good reminder of how things were only a couple of years ago. When people rant about feminism, let them watch this. Without all these women who faught for later generations we still would be married to ugly old men, had no right to work or vote, had no right over our lives. This movie here is only one testimony and therefor important. It is not a documentary but it's telling a lot of how things were. I loved it.
The Fosters: Turks & Caicos (2018)
Like never ending music clips
Not much story in this episode. Beautiful scenery, blue sky, blue sea, beautiful people, drinks, music.....not much to spoil beside the usual storyline to which we are used. So to me it was like watching any music channel and it's never ending music clips. And then it kinda bores me that there are most people outside this family portrayed as conservative and homophob like all people beside the Fosters were like that and even that very very old story of Brandon and Callie was warmed up again. It's okay that this show doesn't get a 6th season. All stories have been told.
Wild Oats (2016)
What a waste of such talents
Even Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange could not save this cheap soap opera of a movie. It started good, had a some good laughs the first 20 minutes or so. But then it became a bit boring. And in the end it was such a ridiculous story that I counted the minutes. I am a huge fan of Shirley MacLaine and I am happy about every appearance of her but this movie here is nothing to recommend.
The Last Word (2017)
All in it what I expect from a movie
I smiled, laughed, danced, cried, got some lessons for life and felt inspired. What more could I ask for? Shirley MacLaine is gorgeous as ever, Amanda Seyfried is cute as ever, the young lady (sorry I don't remember that name atm) is the topping. Good acting, good script and the music/soundtrack is outstanding. I felt extremly good entertained. If you love Shirley MacLaine like I do, this is a must. I can absolutely recommend it.
Romans (2017)
Important movie but chance missed
This story is so important. The topic is brandnew even if it's about an old story, repeating itself every day for ages. And then they got Orlando Bloom for the main part. I thought this was a brilliant move but how wrong was I. I didn't believe him once moment. His face shows different expressions but to me it was like watching someone training his face muscles. There was no emotion to see. Same with James Smillie. No good facial expression either. So I assume this is due to poor directing. Only the end of the movie could have been some reconciliation. But then it ends with another child who's soul gets hurt for the rest of life. Maybe this shocking end should heave the level of this movie, but it didn't. If they would have had Collin Firth in the main part, this movie could have been a diamond but so it's just another movie which will be fast forgotten.
Carlotta (2014)
What a beautiful movie
I was always wondering whos story it was when I watched Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert. Now I know. And I am grateful that I could watch this amazing true story. I was struggling with the fact that they casted the beautiful, the stunning Jessica Marais to play Carlotta and I thought it would have been better if they'd casted a transwoman or a drag queen. But then I saw original pictures and video clips of the real Carlotta and OMG, WOW.....what a beauty she was and still is! And now I think they did right to cast Jessica Marais who did a fantastic job. Yes, nobody would believe that she ever was a bloke - but that's the same with the real Carlotty/Carol. Beside the personal story of Carol this movie shows a bit of the time back then. Not much though but for those who know, it is enough. I enjoyed this movie.
Wentworth (2013)
Season 1 - 4: One of the best series I've ever watched Season 5: BS
I've rated this series with a 10 before I've watched season 5. When I started with the very first episode in season 1, I was barely gripped by it. But then I got into it, the longer I watched, the deeper. I think I was an addict latest when I watched the finale of season 2. The whole series is based on the story of Bea Smith, who comes into jail as a more shy woman, who then develops more and more strenght. She changes through season 1 to 4 and I loved to watch her. Every season has its own highlights and reasons to watch it again and again and again. But then... *Spoiler!!!!*....they killed her in the final of season 4. They said this was necessary to keep the series fresh. BS I say! Season 5 proved that this was the worst decision ever. Season 5 is boring. It is like watching any of those ridiculous series, which are usually shown before noon. I can only recommend the first 4 seasons - they are highly addictive and I don't remember how many times I've watched them so far. But I surely won't ever watch the final of season 4 or whole season 5 again. It is a shame what the responsible people made with this former outstanding show.
The Assets (2014)
Can't believe they cancelled the airing of this fantastic mini-series
I won't repeat what others already wrote and I won't tell anything about the story as everyone can read all facts on wiki, if interested. This series had me 100%. Well scripted, well played, well filmed. First I was surprised by the "quality" of the pictures but then I realised that even that was meant to portray the 80ies. As I was a teenager in the 80ies I know what the cold war meant. And this story is a well told and real part of it. It may be a bit strange to native speakers that the main parts were played my British actors. For me it was no problem as it is more important to understand every word - and I did. Thanks to the actors for that. Wow! I am really overwhelmed by this mini-series and I am absolutely baffled that it had to be stopped after only 2 episodes on American TV because of a lack of audience. That's a shame. For those who like well told stories and don't need lots of special effects and flying bullets, I can absolutely recommend to watch this 8 episodes. It is worth every minute.
Adult Life Skills (2016)
Found a jewel here
What a movie! The actors are fantastic, beginning with Jodie Whittaker who is just captivating. I laughed, I cried, I laughed and cried again. I love it when a movie moves me, touches me, grips me. This little treasure sure did. And after the closing credits (with one of my favorite songs) I knew I just fell in love with it. If anyone ever watched "Jackie" with Holly Hunter knows what I am talking about. This big fat grinning on the face while watching the whole credits and that good feel that stays for hours after the film ended. That's how I felt after watching "Adult Life Skills".
