All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Excellent performances. One advice though.
I would advise all of you people who like reading quality books to first read the novel and pay attention to each and everyone of it's pages. One of the best written books of the recent years. So good it even earned a Pullitzer prize. If the series was strongly based on the book, that would take seasons to present everything or almost everything, so most parts are either strongly or loosely based on the main story. Regardless of this, i liked the series a lot and i strongly suggest everybody to watch it. The rate of 8 is for the series overall and not the book, or how they presented the whole story.
The Goldfinch (2019)
It's one of the movies that you HAVE to read the book beforehand.
Otherwise it might seem an alien movie to many of you. What you saw, is what the book was trying to "say". And yes, if you read the book, it might seem an alien book if your favorite author is Tolkien (marvellous, but easy to read and understand). The book is hard, it's ~1200 pages, it has so much to say and if you are not a vivid book reader, you will get tired soon. I don't have to say anything else. If you've seen the movie and liked it but've not read the book, go ahead. If you did not like the movie, it might prove worthless to give the book a shot. To me, it was an excellent movie.
Il commissario Montalbano (1999)
I enjoyed every episode!
It contained scenes of crime, comedy, passion and occassionaly thriller aspects. All of these with respect to the viewer's taste. This means that it contained blood but not too much, it contained some nudity but only as a necessity and not to draw attention. Also on many specific moments of surprise or passion or sadness, the background music was correct (guitar/violin or some sudden sounds). Please respect the series order. Although every episode is a separate one regarding to the main story, the main protagonists have their personal stories and these show continuity. For example, on an episode of 2010, one of the protagonists is shown as married but there is an episode in early 2000's that shows how that protagonist met his wife. So my suggestion is to start from the very first and proceed in order.
Very much recommended!
Nobody (2021)
I was expecting Nothing.
But i got to see the best action film movie since Taken (2008).
Boyka: Undisputed IV (2016)
Indeed, the most complete fighter in the world.
One of the best martial arts movie you will possibly ever watch. And enjoy!
Scott Adkins at his inner and outer best.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
I just couldn't stop watching.
And i had the feeling that i was watching a huge movie, not a series. One of the best series i've ever watched, and no ...it was not a post-apocalyptic series.
Cobra Kai (2018)
The first movie/series/anything that i rate with 10
I was 10 when Karate Kid was out. I thought Cobra Kai would be another "i'm almost 60 and i want to make some money before i retire" series. BUT, i was totally wrong. This series starts exactly where the first movie ended with a 30+ years span. The main actors are the same, Macchio still looks like 15. But Zabka was the surprise. He should get an award for his performance on the first season (i haven't seen the second yet). Advice: Definitely see (again) the first movie before starting with this series. Just to remember things. Definitely a must-see for all guys of my age (or older).
No Retreat No Surrender (1985)
I'm a child of 70's
I was raised watching movies like this. This movie had extraordinary stunts for that age. I consider it as the grandfather of todays martial arts movies. Acting is boring, all actors are amateurs, but...who cares anyways?
Yip Man 4 (2019)
Magnificent fight scenes.
My only objection is the selection of a 40+ yrs old actor to play a 24yrs old Bruce Lee. The aged face of that actor was more than obvious. Aside from that, i really enjoyed the movie. All four of them are excellent movies.
Anna (2019)
Cars of late 80's.....
....mobiles and laptops of late 90's, network switches and hard disks of mid 2000's. Luc Beson must be very desparate!
First Blood (1982)
I saw this when i was 9 in 1983.
Since then, I've seen this over 20 times. This film should not be considered an action film, it is a drama. The last few minutes contain one of the best drama sequences ever existed. Stallone's best film and appearance. I think most of us guys over 40yrs agree that the sequels should never existed, they are totally crap.
Shooter (2016)
It took me 17 years to enjoy a TV series (No spoilers)
That was in 2001 with Band Of Brothers. I was 27 back then. Until now I didn't have the means to see this series. That was solved with a Netflix subscription. Ok, there are numerous Netflix series i could watch but to be honest, i don't have the patience and time to watch a 3yr series, i'm too busy. I'm a fan of the 2007 film so i decided to make an exception and watch the whole first season during a weekend, and i did not regret it. I want to say two things. First, Phillipe happened to be an excellent choice for the head character. He seems muscular but still a human that bleeds and sweats. Second, i liked the flashbacks to past times. They explain a lot about how most characters came to act like they did in the present day. I'm in the second season now and i can't wait for the 3rd one and hopefully a fourth.
Dunkirk (2017)
Bored and disappointed
So many (p)reviews, so many trailers, so many teasers and ads all around internet made me think that this film was going to be epic, just like Saving Private Ryan. But IMHO, it was far from that. All actors played well, especially Mark Rylance (he was also great in Bridge of Spies). However when the film ended, i was feeling bored. I could wait for a few months to rent this movie on some video-on-demand service. If you expect an epic film, think twice. I totally disagree with the 8.4 rating. It should be around 6.5.
Going in Style (2017)
A pleasant movie, nothing more nothing less
The main protagonists are aged 80+, but they are not of the ordinary kind. Michael Caine is one of the best old school alive actors and Morgan Freeman...well, you should see Shawshank Redemption. This is not a movie you will never forget, but a movie you will possibly enjoy should you see it again.
The Beguiled (2017)
Have mercy!!
One of the worst movies i have ever seen. One hour later after the movie started, my wife smiled at me and said she was sorry for dragging me to that movie. I like watching these kind of movies with the company of my wife, but not this time. A few minutes before the end, i had the feeling that the film turned to thriller, but the end was so.... I mean, come on guys!!! Sofia (Coppola), what the hell!
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Total disappointment!
****** if you haven't see the movie, do not proceed ******
I've seen the whole Alien series too many times. Just a few words about this one: The Alien word from the title of this movie should be replaced with David. The only real relation to the Alien enemy are some references to Prometheus and some aliens occasionally appearing for a couple of minutes, but the frequency of their appearance makes them act as a secondary enemy. In this movie, the real enemy definitely seems to be the android. The end of the movie left promises for one more sequel, but i can't even imagine what will be about, based on what i just saw. I'm very disappointed and yes, Ridley Scot must retire as other reviewers have said. I've never wanted to log into IMDb to write a review, but i' m totally disappointed and i wanted to let it go!!
