Insidious (2010)
Why is Darth Maul in this movie?
Two words... Darth Maul
What the heck is he doing in this movie lol. I guess after his death he decided to terrorize a little boy from Earth, because, hey why
I could not take this movie seriously because I laughed so hard at the demon that looked like Darth Maul. I don't understand how it got so many high scores here. Do people just not see the similarities or do that just not care. "Oh hey, it's that's character from Star Wars, he was kinda creepy in the movie, I'm so scared!" Sheesh.
Was not scary, just a silly movie that tried to make money off an already successful franchise and that's was Star Wars.
Dark Matter (2024)
Gripping and Intriguing!
I've watched 4 episodes so far and it's such a gripping and interesting show. Things in episode 4 get even more interesting when they start traveling to alternate universes. But before that I was still hooked on the premise and how the main character was handling the situation. I would have not made the same decisions and was confused and annoyed with his behavior, but I guess everyone reacts differently to such a strange situation.
I'm not entirely sure about the science, but I keep watching because they made this show so intriguing.
I can't wait to see more of the show. I wish I could binge the whole series like other shows, but they release each episode each week, which is fine I guess, because it seems like less time passes for the next season.
The Last of Us (2023)
Terribly boring, science makes no sense
I tried twice to watch this series but it's so terribly boring that I bailed both times. The little girl that got bit but not infected is very annoying too and I just can't stand her.
Also, the science makes no sense. Humans get infected all the time with fungus, such as yeast infections, athletes foot, etc. We have antifungal medications for that. I'm sure it would be easy to figure out how to treat it. Just because it's a different type of fungus that doesn't typically affect humans, doesn't mean we can't throw the same treatments at it. It's fungus. It's treatable.
I'm not sure why this show is so highly rated. It's also just another zombie, apocalypse show but more boring. If you want that, watch walking dead or something.
Jiok (2021)
Very interesting, just stick with it!
I was incredibly turned off by the silly looking demons that all look the same and didn't watch this show in the beginning, but I decided to give it another chance and I'm glad I did. The story is very interesting and will keep you hooked to keep watching.
It keeps making you ask what the heck is going on. At first it seemed like bad people were being punished, but then later an ordinary single mom with two kids was deemed for hell. It seems absurd to me that just because she was a single mom that she should end up in hell, even if she participated in an affair or something, because what about the men that did too? She looked like a loving and caring mom as well.
Then later you find out by the man who starter the New Truth religion also got the decree 20 years ago and said he was a good guy, never did anything wrong. Then a baby gets the decree, leaving us to think something else must be going on besides God's will and punishment.
The ending to the season was great and very interesting! It seems the hell thing is not permanent. The "angels" never said it was anyway, that's just what the New Truth was propagating.
Can't wait for the next season coming out soon this year!
Fallout (2024)
Great game to TV show adaptation
It's usually pretty hard to make a show or a movie based off a game, but they did a really good job with this one. I loved the fallout games, so it's cool see the things from the games come to life in this show. I also like that they didn't just focus on the woman leaving the vault. There are actually 3 main characters that you follow and learn more about. The story is very engaging and the characters are interesting.
My only issues with the show are that it can be a bit cheesy sometimes, but thankfully not too much, the lighting is not great either and reminds me of a teen show from the Disney channel and the main actress reminds me of someone who came straight out of a Disney show as well.
I also wish they made the ghoul look more ghoulish. I've only seen a few episodes so far and I'm hoping to see more ghouls as the story progresses.
Update: I finished season one and I can honestly say it gets even better as the season goes on! The cheesy situations go away after the third episode. I also started out really disliking the Ghoul, but by the end of the series, I really started to empathize with him.
Gisaengsu: Deo geurei (2024)
Very interesting Horror series
I tried to watch the anime, but I just couldn't get into it. Then I saw this show and decided why not. I'm glad I did because the show really grabbed my attention and not only has cool looking monsters, but a great storyline.
It's a great horror series and I'm very impressed. I'm looking forward to the next season. Luckily since the story is already flushed out, maybe it won't fall flat like the show Sweet Home did in the second season.
I still have questions and found that the anime doesn't even answer my most pressing question, like why can't they reproduce? Hopefully they'll actually have a good explanation for that in the next seasons.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
A very good live action adaptation
I watched the original cartoon series and wasn't sure about watching this since the cartoon was so good. I was afraid of being disappointed or bored, but I was thoroughly impressed and binged the whole season in one night.
I really liked the actors, they did a really good job picking the right people. The only one I'm not sure about is Azula.
I don't mind that a few minor things were changed, it actually made the show more interesting. I honestly don't watch to watch the same exact thing again anyway. But overall they are keeping to the original story pretty well. I really don't understand what everyone is complaining about.
Can't watch for the next season! I watched it with my son and he loved it. We both had moments of crying because the show can really tug at your heart strings at times.
Carol & The End of the World (2023)
Engaging Show
I haven't finished the season yet, but from what I've seen so far, this show keeps you interested in what happens next even if the main character, Carol is very flat emotionally.
Carol is introverted and a bit withdrawn. She struggles with opening up about her feelings to friends or family. I feel if she were honest, maybe she could work through her issues better.
Carol just wants things to be like they used to be. She also wants to be productive and have a sense of purpose regardless of the dire situation the planet is in. She doesn't want to just live in the moment, party, travel or participate in risk taking activities like everyone else she knows.
When eventually does come across people that are like her and have the same interest, she finds that's they are even more withdrawn than she is. She desperately wants to make a friend that she can relate to. But her social awkwardness and quiet demeanor make that even more difficult.
The show also realistically addresses how things might be if we were to face an end of the world situation like having the military work at the grocery stores so that people don't loot or hoard food. This is a level of forethought that I appreciate that makes the show more immersive and engaging. This show also makes you wonder what you would do if faced with a similar situation.
I look forward to seeing what the rest of the show has to offer.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Better than I expected
I was not expecting much from this movie to be fair, even though I really liked the FNAF games. I know they changed some of the lore around but honestly it was all a good way to tie a story together a make it into a palatable movie. It was not that scary to me, but my son thought it was pretty scary.
I had a couple of gripes around Vanessa but I blame the writing on that, like the first night she showed up, Mike didn't ask her why there was a police officer there, etc. Just minor things like that. I was also expecting her to be a villain, but it didn't turn out this way, at least in this movie.
I really liked Spring Bonnie and the big reveal on that! It was like the final Boss in the game if it had a final Boss. Honestly that was my favorite part of the movie.
I know they left it open for future movies and I look forward to seeing those too.
Not sure why there are so many bad reviews.
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared (2022)
Genius - Hilarious - Creepy
I stumbled across this show recently on YouTube and happened to watch someone review the show. I decided to then check out the show myself and I instantly loved it. It's chaotic nonsense humor is right up my alley. It also has an element of horror and creepyness to it which I also like. Horror based on kidsy shows and toys is definitely in right now too.
This show also makes you think as well. It models things about life from these terrible teachers that show up. Like the briefcase singing about careers and just disappearing and leaving them abandoned at a factory. The trio has no choice but to work there. It reminds you of how your have certain hopes and aspirations in life but can find yourself working a job your didn't really want but have to until you get old and retire.
Each episode can have multiple interpretations and meanings to everyone, which makes it genius.
El laberinto del fauno (2006)
A Masterpiece!
Once again Doug Jones delivers a spectacular performance as the Faun and Pale man. This movie was equally horrifying as well as enchanting. The makeup and costumes were superb. I've watched this movie many times, it's one you'll never forget.
A little girl can see things that others can't and it makes more sense as to why as you continue to watch the movie. The ending was also phenomenal because it made you think. I was both sad and happy at the same time.
My only gripe is that they refuse to Sub this in English, which is a bit ableist. I really want my adult son to watch it but he can't due to his severe ADHD and can't read fast enough.
Hellraiser (2022)
It's actually pretty good
I just watched this last night with my son, we both thought the movie was pretty good. For those who don't know, they tried to stick with the original idea more in this movie. The cenobites are supposed to be both beautiful and horrifying. I really liked the how they made them look. The original idea had a woman as the priest as well and she actually did a really good job.
That being said, I really loved the first Hellraiser movie and the original pinhead, but I liked this one too, maybe not totally as much but what can you expect from a reboot?
The issues I had was that there were not enough scary and creepy scenes like the original. It was also a bit slow in the beginning. I was also hoping for more monsters outside of the cenobites too like the original had. I also was a bit confused at the ending and why when the main character told the priest that she was giving up, why they didn't just take her? They waited around for another sacrifice? That was a pretty big plot hold, not going to lie. If the ending made more sense I would have given it more stars.
I Just Killed My Dad (2022)
Very Enlightening, emotional roller coaster
I did not expect things to turn out the way they did when I watched this. At the end I was crying and it's hard to get me to cry. I say that because I grew up in an abusive home too where I had to suppress my emotions, so I went most of my life not understanding my own feelings.
I could relate to this kid and I'm so glad his coworker helped him to uncover the truth about what was going on in his life and home.
It's pretty obvious to me that this kid was really trying to protect himself, maybe not so much in the moment, but in the future as well because his father was unraveling pretty severely even though he was already mentally unwell, controlling and abusive.
With the way that he raised his son, he might as well have picked up the gun and pulled the trigger on himself.
4400 (2021)
Started out good but then got really boring
When the first episode came out, I really liked it, I continued to watch it up to episode 6, but at that point I was getting bored of the relationship drama. Episode 5 showed promise and was just starting to become interesting again, but then they had to have a make out session with pretty much every character 🙄 I thought this was a sci-fi show, keep that crap out.
Inside Job (2021)
Boring, not funny, lacks originality
After a few episodes of not laughing at anything, I stopped watching. The main female character both looks like and resembles Rick from Rick and Morty. Her father has a drinking problem, which reminds me again of Rick and Morty. Her male coworker looks and reminds me of Fry from Futurama. I'm guessing they did that to attract audiences who enjoy those shows, but it's too obvious. The show lacks originality, it's not funny and just overall bland.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Midnight Snoozefest
I can't believe the same people who made the Haunting of Hill House ava Bly Manor made this crap. I got through the first episode wondering when something interesting was going to happen. I read that it picks up the pace at episode 3, so they waste over 2 hours of your time in the beginning setting up boring characters and showing church activities. I may try to watch the rest and will come back and update my review after I finish it.
Invincible (2021)
Very interesting show that makes you think
I don't know what took me so long to find and watch this show, I discovered it from the memes, lol. Things I like about this show so far:
I can actually relate to what Omni-Man is saying about humanity. He makes a good villain and I agree with him that we are hell bent on destroying ourselves. But I didn't like that he compared his wife to a pet, like yeesh, so that makes me also dislike him, but in the end he can't bring himself to kill his son and flies away in tears, so maybe he does have some redeeming qualities after all.
You can really feel for Invincible, he pretty much lost his father, someone he thought he knew and could trust. He had been lied to all of his life.
Things I didn't like:
Way too much action for my taste, it seems like there was just constant conflict and fighting and that it made it seem very unrealistic. If it weren't for this, I'd give it 10 stars.
How did they get to the moon so fast, that doesn't make any sense, even if he's a super hero? Same with Mars, unless they discovered close to light speed travel, getting there in just two weeks is nonsensical with rocket boosters or whatever.
Other than my two main gripes with the show, it's still a very good and interesting show.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
Watch all of the Episodes before whining about it being "woke" or whatever
My daughter and I watched this show and we both really loved it! I believe all of the negative reviews are from people who did not actually watch all of the episodes or any at all. He-Man is still in pretty much every episode still, even though they are flashbacks. Yes, he dies in the first episode, but he comes back and so does Skeletor. This show is SUPPOSED to be set in the future, so I'm not sure why so many people are upset with the idea that the show's main protagonist is Teela in the first part. Sure there are things I didn't like but there were many things I did like too, but overall it was an interesting show and I'm looking forward to Part 2.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
I don't get it..
I saw this show had really high reviews so I gave it a chance but I just can't get past the first episode. Is this supposed to be funny? The main character just comes across as annoying and self absorbed. Who jokes about having a fat girlfriend who won't "steal her boyfriend" or that joke about this stripper dancing half naked being 18 in dog years. That's just not funny. This show is a hard pass for me.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Not nearly as good as Haunting of Hill House
Well, overall this was pretty disappointing compared to the Haunting of Hill House. I didn't like that almost everyone could see the ghosts and that a particular ghost was murdering people. It just made it lose whatever scare factor it had completely. Also, what the heck was up with Housekeeper having been dead that whole time? It didn't make any sense at all, so they could all see and interact with her but she was dead? What?
Overall if you are really bored, you can binge watch this, but it was pretty "meh".
Allen v. Farrow (2021)
Enlightening and Disturbing
This was a very enlightening and disturbing documentary. I only saw Woody Allen in a couple of movies when I was little and missed all of the drama surrounding the custody case, molestation charges and him marrying one of his step daughters. So I saw this film from a fresh perspective, not from someone who was ever a fan of Woody Allen. Dylan's case and story is compelling and they went to great lengths to incorporate all of the evidence that was presented. It's a shame that she never testified because she was a traumatized 7 year old girl at that time and that is understandable.
As someone who is a victim of abuse myself with a sibling who was also sexually abused by a close family member, I can really related to this documentary and what has happened to poor Dylan. Normal parents do not behave the way Woody did with Dylan either and his behavior was pretty telling, being constantly around her to the point where she was running away from him and avoiding him. Him having his head in her lap, laying together practically naked, etc.
When you see pictures of Dylan in her youth, you can see the sadness and despair in her eyes. I see a traumatized little girl. I know that look all too well.
I believe Dylan, not just because she said it happened, but also because of her childhood video recordings and other eye witness accounts.
Seuwiteuhom (2020)
Cool Monsters, Good Plot, A little Cheesey
I really like the monsters in this show, they are weird, creepy and very creative. The story line really pulled me in and keeps me watching as well. I just wish the characters weren't so one dimensional and the acting wasn't a bit cheesey. I think they overdid the cliche stoicism too. And the guy with the sword makes me cringe sometimes lol. But overall it's a dent show to binge on.
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Funny, Awesome and Pretty Accurate to the Game
This movie has just the right amount of cheese to be both funny and awesome. Very seldom can you find a really good movie based on a game but this movie really pulls it off. I watched it when it first came out and loved it. I just watched it again with my daughter and she loved it too and I still love it. I don't understand all the negative reviews. I used to play this game all the time with my sister and can say that many of the scenes and characters are pretty true to the game as well. Looking forward to the new movie too, which is why I went back and rewatched this. I must also say that the music is simply amazing too.
F Is for Family (2015)
I don't see the appeal
I gave this a shot because of the good reviews, but honestly I don't see the appeal. I didn't laugh at all in the first episode and found it pretty boring. Somehow I knew that the main character was going to have anger management problems and sure enough I was right. Just not funny.
Marianne (2019)
Starts off good but then gets dumb
I really enjoyed the first 6 episodes of this show, but episode 7 just got really stupid and cliche. For one thing, they kill off one of the more interesting main characters in the dumbest possible way. The character never really got flushed either and we were just starting to get to know more about them which is very disappointing.
