Emma. (2020)
Beautiful cinematography, but that's all
Started watching it as soon as I finished the book and was left baffled and disheartened. Did I really fail to see that absolutely ALL of the characters of the book were so annoying or were the scenario and acting taken to an extreme? It was only a pleasant watch thanks to the stunning visuals.

Beautiful coming-of-age movie
I personally loved this movie.
Firstly, I loved the way it was made. I liked the cinematography, the sceney, the way it was shot. All the other Turkish movies I have seen had the vibe of an indie movie, so it was good to see something else, something fresh.
Secondly, I loved the attention that was given to details and the beginning-end simmetry. To me, the events that occured between the two phone calls that the characters received represented something that was mandatory in order for them to be able to move on, to understand one another as adults and to grow. I loved that it all happened within this "universe" that began and ended with the phone call. It meant that they were ready to go on with their lives, let go of the past. The actual ending of the movie was only the beginning of their new lives, new selves. I liked that when Nezis and Emrah are talking in the garden, she compares him to a flower, which we later see him watering, when they all gather at her house after they had visited her resting place. Again, I believe that this was a sign of the development of the character - he was somehow watering himself and her memory, the expectations she had of him, he was growing.
Moreover, the plot is about more than a teenage love story that finds its way into adulthood. It presents the way people deal with the inevitable death of a loved one and how we overlook the efforts others do for our comfort. I believe that Yulduz was a pivotal character, although she was not a main one. We permanently see her in the background, working, even when our characters are relaxing. Even they were surprised at how many dishes she could carry, which was just a way that symoblised how much she was doing for them. After her death, Nezis said that she had always told her to take a break, which is what the kids always told her.
I liked how the movie touched upon the topics of hoe women treat other women because of men (the girls don't like Emre because Gokce makes her look like a liar twice: when it came to him cheating on her and when he had lied about the duration of his and Beril's relationship) and how growing apart changes us as human, that we become different people than the children who were friends and that when reunited with old friends, we must get to know one another again.
Although I felt that there was need for a little more back story about Emre and Gokce, about why she was not invited to the group's reunions and why she was lying about her job position, the movie was definitely worth-while. It has good humour that will definitely make you smile, but it is more than a regular rom-com.
The Beguiled (2017)
Visually impressive
I personally don't understand why this movie has so many bad reviews. I haven't seen the original film, so I can't compare them, but this one was such a pleasure to watch even if it had been for the visuals only. And honestly, I believe that comparing original movies to remakes is a waste of time. Just consider them as two different pieces of work, each of them picture the vision of different directors, screen-writers etc.
Again, the visuals were absolutely mesmerising, they set the perfect tone for the unsettling story. I loved the fact that the movie doesn't change its pace when it nears the climax. I loved its linearity.
Miami Bici (2020)
Waste of time
I left the cinema still waiting for something to happen. The build-up to the climax of the movie wasn't cohesive and the acting wasn't too good. I gave the movie two stars because of the plot, which had potential, but was badly executed. The whole movie was only a showcase of money (expensive locations/cars) with poor cinematography. To top it all, a "powerful" female character is introduced, but she dies within 10 or so minutes after she had been presented. Why would you add a character to your storyline if it has nothing to bring to it?

Great plot
I'm not the biggest fan of Sci-Fi movies and I had to convince myself to continue watching this movie - the first half an hour is disappointing, but then I really enjoyed the movie. I do not understand why it has such bad reviews, I loved it.
