The First Omen (2024)
Awful Film
I had the misfortune to go and watch this film today at my local Odeon. In my humble and honest opinion, this film was dire. The story lacked cohesion and seemed to be all over the place and the soundtrack was absolutely abysmal. I have watched the original 3 instalments and even the third one, which I consider the weakest entry, is much better than this.
They claim it is a prequel to the original 1976 film starring Gregory Peck, but then go and contradict some very important elements of the original.
I won't go into any details as I don't want to include any spoilers in this review.
There were some positives: the actors and actresses all did a superb job with the material they were given and the cinematography was beautiful in most shots.
I fully understand that film, like other art forms, is subjective and who knows, maybe you may watch it and love it, but for me, this is one film I don't plan to ever watch again.
Blue Beetle (2023)
Entertaining and Enjoyable
I watched Blue Beetle today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The film had heart, action, drama and comedy. The special effects were very good. The main character of Jaime Reyes was portrayed beautifully by Xolo Maridueña, I hope he stays on in the new DCU. The family dynamics were well done and you believed that they were really family that truly care and love each other. The action scenes were very dynamic and did a good job keeping me entertained.
The villains were pretty generic and forgettable, which is a shame as one of them was played by Susan Sarandon.
Now, where the film looses a point from me is the constant left wing politics which seem to mire much of today's so called entertainment.
Overall, a highly entertaining and enjoyable film which I would definitely rewatch.
The Flash (2023)
A Very Enjoyable Movie
I watched it today and absolutely loved it. The film was action packed, funny and had some very touching moments too. There were a lot of surprises, some of which I already knew about and some which were a genuine surprise to me.
The special effects were a bit off at times, but it didn't really phase me as the scenes were highly enjoyable.
Now, if like me at first, you are one who is on the fence about watching this due to the allegations circling Ezra Miller, remember that there are many others involved in the making of this movie both in front and behind the camera who don't deserve to be punished for someone else's sins.
If you do opt to watch it, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I had a great time watching it and I highly recommend it.
Black Adam (2022)
I Enjoyed It.
I watched it today and really enjoyed it. Was it perfect? No. But it certainly was a lot of fun and sets up the future of the DCEU beautifully. The introduction of the JSA was done really well. I really enjoyed all the new additions to the DCEU and look forward to seeing more of them in the future.
The DCEU looks promising and I for one can't wait to see where they take it. Hawkman and Dr Fate were my favourite characters.
The special effects were mainly good and everyone played their part well.
Overall, a really fun watch and that mid-credit scene was amazing.
Will be buying this on 4k as soon as it's released.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
Absolutely Loved It.
Wasn't sure what to expect, but after watching it, I can only say it's one of the best things Marvel has put out on Disney +. The cinematography and aesthetics were a joy to watch.
I have to admit that I haven't been impressed with phase 4 so far, but this has more than made up for it.
I grew up loving the Werewolf By Night comics and loved any appearances or team ups with him in it.
Michael Giacchino has done an amazing job with both directing and scoring the film, I hope they give him more projects to direct in the future.
The acting was spot on and I was pleasantly surprised by an appearance of one of my favourite Marvel characters, which I won't give away here as other may wish to be surprised too.
Overall, a very enjoyable 60 minutes.
Terrore nello spazio (1965)
Had so much potential
I first watched this when I was a child and found it scary at the time. Watching it now as an adult, I found the acting and the dialogue to be rather weak in places. This could have been so much better. My three stars are for the special effects, the colour palette and the make-up effects which were pretty good.
In conclusion: a very good concept but poorly executed.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Fantastic Movie
I finally took the plunge and went to cinema for the first time since 2019. The movie was highly entertaining with engaging characters and a good story too. The action and fights scenes seemed very well choreographed and the special effects were a joy to experience on the big screen.
It was a Marvel film that didn't feel like a Marvel film, which shows how versatile the MCU is becoming.
I was highly impressed to see and hear characters speak in their native language, a risk as many people don't like to read subtitles, but being an avid fan of Asian cinema I was quite happy and comfortable to do so.
Overall, a highly entertaining and fun film from Marvel.
I highly recommend it. A+++
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
A Visual Feast For The Eyes
I finally took the plunge and watched the much maligned live action version of Ghost In The Shell and I absolutely loved it. The visuals were amazing and the story I found really intriguing and held my interest throughout. There were so many nods to the anime, which was a nice touch from the film makers.
I highly recommend this movie.
Ssawooja Gwishina (2016)
A Feel Good Supernatural Drama
I have watched this show twice now and thoroughly enjoyed it both times, perhaps a bit more the second time around. This show had drama, action, comedy, romance and a few genuine scares too. The actors were brilliant and each episode had a different ghost with its own story, which was beautifully meshed with the main ongoing story.
I highly recommend this show and if you decide to dive in and watch it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
DC Showcase: Death (2019)
Excellent
Absolutely loved it. Beautifully animated in a style of Manga and written by one of my favourite comic book writers, J M DEMATTEIS. I would say that this is definitely one of the best shorts from DC so far. (IMHO) I won't give anything away, I highly recommend you watch it. It can be found on both the Blu-Rays Wonder Woman: Bloodlines and Batman:Death In The Family.
