You Again (2010)
I freakin' love this movie! I've watched it tons of times over the years
This movie is the best. I've watched it tons of times over the years. First with my mom when I was younger and she introduced me to it, and many times after. Anything starring Kristen Bell is gonna be good. She always brings such an authentic realness and relatability to her performances, and her comedic timing is subtle and underrated as Marnie. Also not to mention this movie has THE Jamie Lee Curtis-cmon you can't go wrong with her either. And not to mention the legendary late Betty White. What an angel and beautiful spirit who always brings good chuckles. This movie is just such a great subversion of what a traditional romcom/comedy is and is not how you typically see them. It has an actual interesting plot and good development. The jokes hit, and the entire thing is just well executed. The ending is also satisfying and feels full circle. Couldn't recommend more. I adore this movie.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Wonderful film, even if you didn't read the book
This movie was excellent. The cinematography was gorgeous, capturing North Carolina, the marshes, and many aspects of nature in a raw beautiful way. The storyline was easy to follow and had enough twists and nuance to remain interesting and engaging. Even though I'd never read the book, I felt connected to the story almost immediately and was captivated till the end. I also thought the acting, especially by Daisy Edgar Jones was very convincing and told the story well. Highly recommend!
Game Night (2018)
Extremely entertaining
This movie is wonderful! All the actors do a great job, the plot is simple enough to be easy to follow, but there are great twists and tons of awkward and funny moments. Rachel McAdams is fantastic in this, as always. Go watch it!
Just Go with It (2011)
Don't believe the bad reviews!
Seriously this movie is HILARIOUS. The dialogue is so funny I was audibly laughing the entire time. Adam Sandler and Jen Aniston and Bailee Madison are all perfectly in synch in this movie and it's just so fun to watch. Also there is a hilarious Nicole Kidman cameo. Highly recommend for lighthearted fun.
Spencer (2021)
Kristen Stewart definitely delivered
This movie starts out very slow and with not much dialogue. You see just a lot of landscapes and cars. However, this is a surprisingly nice and artistic way to set up the setting and atmosphere surrounding those three days that the movie chronicles. The movie has some wonderful camera work that truly reflects Diana's mind space at the time and how it made her word tilt and shift constantly-her feeling helpless. Kristen Stewart is phenomenal at conveying all of these feelings. Her performance is next level and truly a step up for her. She IS an actress in the truest sense of the word. You could tell she really connected with Diana on a spiritual level, and her accent, appearance, and mannerisms are all spot on. The movie also has wonderful orchestral music that accompanies it and fits the intensity of each scene very well. The ending left a little to be desired and was a slight but underwhelming. But then again, it also did serve a purpose and was nice because it didn't feel like the movie HAD to end on a bang, because that's not really how Diana's life was. Kristen Stewart deserves to be nominated and win for this! Go see it! *Revision: saw it for a second time. Even better. Picked up on even more minute details and incredible qualities of Kristen's acting. 7/10 -> 10/10*
Cruella (2021)
I really loved it
This movie was so good. Much better than I was expecting. The girl at the beginning who plays young Estella (Cruella) is really good, however I wasn't sure if I was gonna love the movie until I saw Emma Stone. When she came in, she brought such great depth and life to her character. She is such a wonderful actress. Also Emma Thompson is amazing too and played her snobby, arrogant, self-important character perfectly. The outfits in this movie are incredible: believe the hype. Go see it.
So Undercover (2012)
Not particularly great; just a guilty pleasure type movie
I am fully aware that this movie isn't great and has a cheesy script and a stupid storyline and all that. However, sometimes it's just fun to watch a movie because of the person starring in it. And in this case, Miley Cyrus makes it enjoyable (in my opinion) to watch. There are also just a few side characters that are funny, like Cotton, who make the movie a great laugh. Once again, don't watch this movie for anything serious or thought-provoking. It's simply a silly, superficial comedy. Enjoy it for what it is.
Run (2020)
Kinda Disappointing
Don't get me wrong. I adore Sarah Paulson. Her acting in Ratched was top-notch and I was highly impressed. It's not that this movie is bad per se, it's just very underwhelming. Someone else said it goes from 0-100 too quickly and just seems unrealistic, and I agree. I understand this was made more for TV and wasn't supposed to be extremely long, I just wish there was more suspense/build-up to the climax (which ended up also being underwhelming). The twists do seem good but then also when you think about it you're like: hmm I probably could've guessed that would happen. I thought the girl who played Chloe (Kiera Allen) as a newcomer was phenomenal and held her own next to Sarah, a seasoned actress who performed this role with nuance and deep emotion. I just was hoping for more, so that's why I give it a 5/10.
La La Land (2016)
Good, But Over-hyped
Ever since watching the trailer, I was excited to see this movie. However, it let me down. There is no doubt that Emma Stone had great acting (especially in the audition scenes). But the story got boring at times. As I was sitting there I noticed that the opening dance scene could have been much better and overall the dancing was mediocre. I absolutely loved the set and costume designs. Personally, I don't think this movie is that amazing. But I have to admit the songs were emotional and catchy.
