Fährmann Maria (1936)
Interesting Film - Search a Copy / Wer hat die DVD/ Kopie?
Who can help me? This is a very well done German film from the thirties with the then famous Sybille Schmitz. As the previous Reviewers pointed out, the film has its cinematic qualities - well acting - and a sincere dark atmosphere. For a long time, I search for this film. In 2007 the film was brought out from Black Hill/ UFA. Unfortunately I missed to order it in time and suddenly it was no longer available. Has anyone the original DVD? Alternative a Copy would also do fine. If you have - please be so kind and drop me a line :-) I have quite good Collection of old German films of that period - so if you are interested in old German movies, let me know. Update 2014-2-7: Liebe Hildegard Brosseau in Statford: Unfortunately I couldn't answer you per email. I tried twice, first the normal way via "Answering", then I copied out your email address. There must me something wrong with your email address ([email protected]). Immediately after sending my Answer to you I both times received an "Mail delivery failed". Please do write me again, I will answer with Mail (hope it works out then) otherwise I will answer you here :-) Danke.

Kolberg (1945)
Interesting Film
To correct one thing the first critic said, KOLBERG was released on January 31, 1945. But it's release came to late to increase the morals of the Wehrmacht, because at the end of Janauary things went not so well for the German Army, because the Red Army reached the Oder, some 60 km near Berlin. Furthermore the powers of the Wehrmacht were nearly exhausted, due to the loss of arms and men. So it was clear to see for the most, that we would loose the war, unless the promised Wunderwaffen would not come to action. And that never happened. Nevertheless KOLBERG is an interesting experience. Alt last I'd like to point out HEINRICH GEORGE, who truly was one of our greatest Actors in Theatre and Film ever, in his role of the Bürgermeister of Kolberg. A stunning performance.
Das war mein Leben (1944)
An Impressive Film
I saw the film in the fall of 2005 in Berlin in a small cinema in Wilmersdorf. I can recommend the film only most warmly. The Content: As a young doctor Carl Raddatz takes over a position as a country doctor in a small village in 1898. First he must acquire himself the confidence of the inhabitants. The film reports of the events of its life, the following 40 years until 1938 - of its 2 loves and losses... The action is on the one hand interesting, partly exciting and dramatic, in addition sensitive and thoughtful. The film has, which today became very rare, mind. The action does not exhibit "lengths", it is taut and well developed and build up. All actors are convincing in their roles and it is easy to identify with several persons of the film (especially you will close Margarete Haagen in your heart, in her representation of the self-willed but heart-good doctors aid). The camera guidance is imaginative and moved, no trace static (one regards only the "roundabout scene"). The photography is very atmospheric and intense. The Decorations are on the one hand complex, on the other hand consciously taken back however very effectively, so that the atmosphere and tendency of the time are convincingly obtained - this applies especially to the action up to 1914. The film music is high-quality and skillfully and effectively used. All together a wonderful experience to have seen this film - a little jewel.
