If I Can't (2023)
Self Gratuitous Mess
This was the worse movie or can I call it that. It had no true storyline. The main character/ lead went from a loving wife to a hoe and I still don't understand how.
All the time I kept wondering why would they cast this girl as the main lead...then I realized she's the one flipping the bill. Acting is definitely not her calling.
The transitions from scene to scene were bad; the characters and the relationships were very undeveloped. The plots and motives made no sense.
All the women had the exact same body, and very sexualized. The movie used language of 2020's but supposed to be set in the 2000.
I can't...
The Best Man: The Final Chapters (2022)
Pretty Good
Although I love the actors and the franchise, I'm going to be honest with my review. The first two episodes were like a mini movie and very entertaining. Yes we all can tell that the actors have aged and it's more than 2 years have gone by since Best Man Holiday but let's just imagine... If you let go of reality and enjoy, you will be ok.
My favorite character arcs are Q and Shelbie, I was pleasantly surprised and it was well acted. Lance's character arc was ok; not a fan of the transgender character who was a smart butt in episode 7 for no reason. Murch and Candice's storyline was good and believable. The annoying love triangle between Jordan, Harper and Robyn was annoying. Robyn's character arc was surprising and I didn't enjoy it. I think Jordan and Harper's character arc were the least developed and I was disappointed by that.
Nevertheless, I would still recommend it for the culture. My final gripe was the ladies' wigs...they could have been better and have a variety. Shelbie was the only one who changed her hairstyle throughout the series and we know that out of 3 Black women who are wealthy enough to live in NYC over a length of time that is not believable lol.
Riches (2022)
Can't Wait for Season 2
In the day of binge watching, this hits the spot. I was pleasantly surprised how this TV show sucked me in. My favorite characters with chemistry are the two siblings from America. I honestly love Sarah Niles from Ted Lasso so much that I found it kinda hard to believe that she is this vindictive wife who is self-centered and evil.
The twist and turns are wonderful. I was able to figure out all of them except for the last 2 twists. I can't wait to see how they handle the secrets that were left open-ended.
My final thoughts are America, we gotta do better with our actors lol. This cast ensemble is from the UK but has 2 UK actors playing Americans. I think it would have been a little better if there were 2 American actors who were actually thrown into the UK for authenticity. Lastly, not a fan of the sex scenes. Let's take a page from Shonda Rimes and really sell me the sexiness of the beautiful Nina Richardson played by Deborah Ayorinde.
Severance: Defiant Jazz (2022)
The Best Episode
Outstanding! Brilliantly written and performed by all of the cast. Oh and what a twist! I definitely was not expecting any of it. I can't wait for the next episode.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Long Title; bad TV
I completely understand it's a work of fiction but come on...it was actually pleasant and entertaining until the 7th episode...a child really??? A fight/battle between a grown woman and a child?
It was nice to see "Stove" from bridesmaids and Glen Close...but please do not make a second season. Also this should have been a 2 hr movie not a series.
Outer Banks (2020)
Season 1 Thumps Up; Season 2 Thumps Down
I truly enjoyed season 1. It was like the Goonies revisited and more modern. It had adventure, excitement and young teen love. I thoroughly loved it.
Season 2 on the other hand was not. It was predictable, drawn out and cringe worthy. It is 10 episodes but could have been done in 5. The acting was over the top for no reason. Dumb decisions were made and at the epicenter of racism and entitlement of America. There is absolutely no way a narcissist would make the decisions these people made and it is insulting that the writers thought that adults would believe these things. Maybe their teen audience would but these Gen Zers are way too smart to believe it.
I will honestly be surprised if it gets renewed for a 3rd season.
Joker (2019)
More Joaquin as the Joker Please!!!!
I understand that this is considered an origin story and standalone movie but I need to see this type of performance in a battle with Batman and Gotham city.
Joaquin has made me smile in fear and shock as he beautifully portrays this nightmarish role. This award season is Joaquin's. I know Heath is pleased and Jack is impressed.
