The Bear (2022)
Pure Garbage & An Insult To Anyone With Italian Blood...
I watched the 1st season & rated it a 7. Tonight I finished the 2nd season & couldn't be more disappointed. This was the most depressing comedy I've ever watched. Season 2 was just a mess. Let's start with the dialog that had actors talking over each other in quadruple persons. If you used CC it would be impossible to follow. Next was the cinematography on several episodes which made you dizzy from all the bouncing around by several cameras. Next was personal for me: Ep. 6 The Feast of the 7 Fishes. I happen to be Sicilian & it's our custom to serve 7 fishes on Christmas Eve dating back to the 1800's when there was a meat shortage but plenty of fish. It represents many things to Italian Christians like the 7 sacraments, 7;days of the week or the 7 hills of Rome. It's very special to us & this show totally bastardized that holy night for any Italian. It emphasized family together on Christmas Eve but instead of being a loving night this show made it a horror. Relatives fighting & screaming, Momma making the food but having a break down, cursing that would make a sailor blush ending with Momma crashing her car into the dining room. How absurd & disgraceful. Now, the kicker: the dialog revolves around the "F" word which I stopped counting after 300 times. Don't watch this show with young children? This show was mess and reflects the downfall of our society in general and what they call art. This was garbage right to the ending which went nowhere. A story with no ending couldn't be more ridiculous yet the Commies that run Hollywood gave it several Emmys. Some great actors like Jamie Lee Curtis who lowered herself to play the crazy mother in this garbage. Save your precious time and skip this series coz it's truly offensive and a waste of time.
Somewhere in Queens (2022)
Bad Writing & Storyline
Growing up in Queens and being Italian myself, I thought I'd like this movie and have a few laughs but that wasn't the case. Romano gets a few of the scenes right about being Italian with having the whole family over on Sundays for dinner and some laughs and some arguments with Nonna making all the food. That's about all he got right. After a few laughs at the start, the movie slowly goes downhill and portrays a picture of a father who's basically a loser and is trying to live his life through his son. It's sad coz I don't know many families where the father or mother want to live through their children. This may have been Rays life & making the picture might have been cathartic. He's not funny and he's not a good writer. Maybe Ray needs therapy coz this movie was dull and depressing. Far from the way I grew up and what I expected. Take a pass on this flop...
Poker Face (2023)
Fold This Poker Hand Immediately....
This is a new series on NBC's Peacock Station. I watched the first three episodes and I had to stop there. The TV ads list some A list actors but they only do cameos in different episodes. The main character is Charlie played by Natasha Lyonne who I like but certainly not a big enough star to carry an entire series. Along with Benjamin Bratt as her costar. The storyline revolves around Charlie who is a loser type woman who has the gift of telling if someone is lying. She uses that gift to solve murders a get herself through life. That's basically it. Each episode follows Episode 1 but in a very sporadic way. She's all over the place in different towns and situations which makes it hard to follow. Why would you follow knowing she does the same thing in every episode. As much as I liked Natasha in Orange Is The New Black, her raspy voice and campy way of shoving the mystery gets on your nerves by the 3rd episode. The script writing is very sophomoric and cheesy which is not surprising since the directors and producers include Maya Rudolph who is way out of her league and was just an OK comedian on SNL. Do yourself a favor and skip this series unless you have insomnia that needs a cure. This will put you to sleep in 20 minutes.
P. S. - If you're paying for Peacock and this is the level of script writing you're going to get, cancel now and save your money coz they can't come close to what Amazon, Hulu, FXX and others are pumping out.
Not Fade Away (2012)
Waste of Time
The movie starts out ok and takes you on an (literally) endless journey nowhere. The ending is the worst ending of any film I ever saw and I've seen thousands of movies. Don't say I didn't warn you...
Karen (2021)
Creates More Division Between Blacks & Whites.
To start this is a BET (Black Entertainment Production) and is a very exaggerated and extreme version of racism in America. I understand that the writers and directors wanted to point out how some blacks are treated but this movie is about a crazy white woman and her policeman brother who hate blacks and when a black couple move next door they go to extreme measures to get them to move. It's a very disturbing and unrealistic point of view and pure garbage painting southern whites as extreme black haters. It goes so far as to show the white woman and her brother going after the wife in an attempt to kill her just because she's black. BLM is the basic theme and is blown way out of proportion. Don't waste your time watching this garbage. All Alice's Matter.
The Beatles: Get Back (2021)
Way Too Long
Being 13 when the Beatles came to America, I became a big fan and even today I can't think of another band who's had such a great impact on music as these four guys. Their music is timeless and I own every album they've made even English imports that you couldn't buy here back in the day. Now, to the series which runs about 7 hours over 3 episodes. The first episode is the introduction with over two hours of the boys getting back with each other to make a TV special in about 2 weeks. I could have skipped this part entirely since it was too long and boring. I had to put the closed captions on because it's hard to understand everyone talking at the same time and with their English accents. Part two is a tiny bit more interesting with the boys feeling more comfortable with each other and agreeing on making an album (Get Back) and using this new music for anTV series. You will see the ups and downs between the boys and the way they create their music and how it evolves into a song but still boring since the music is just bits and pieces scattered all over the place with no song being sung completely. It's just a mish mosh of music in bits and pieces. What's noted is how bored Ringo is throughout the entire series and the lack of input at any point in their music. Ringo just sits back, listens, plays a bit and collects big bucks. I would consider this the luckiest gig in the history of music for a Richie.
Finally, Part 3 (the conclusion). As you watch this episode the first hour is a repeat of Part 2 and it's not until after that hour that it begins to come together. The boys can the TV special and decide to play a few full songs on the roof of the Apple Studios. Conclusion: These 7 hours should have been condensed into a 3 hour movie and I would have given it 9 stars but 7+ hours is a waste of time. Check it out and you be the judge. In any event, I still love a the Beatles...
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Need A Strong Stomach
Let me begin by saying if you're squimish about blood and guts, do not watch this series. There's a good story line to follow but I found it a bit excessive when it came to blood but being a horror fan, I was able to deal with this part of the series. On the whole, the series is a study in human behavior especially under critical conditions and I'm sure this show will be a required study in all psychology classes. IMO, I feel as though the writers were paying homage to Stanley Kubrick and his portfolio of work. See if you can see the similarities as you get deeper into the story line. There are 9 episodes which last about an hour and one that's about 30 minutes long. There's been much talk about it on social media and that's given it a boost in viewership but all in all it kept my attention enough to see how it was going to end. I gave it an 8 since it drew me into watching the whole series....
First Cow (2019)
Having Trouble Sleeping?
This is in the top 10 of the most boring movies I've ever watched. Very slow story about 2 people who meet and get a cow. They should shoot the head of the production company that allowed any amount of money to make this POS. Perfectly good to watch for people who have Insomnia...
La rage du Démon (2016)
Waste of Time
This is not the actual movie. It's a French documentary about the movie with everyone's opinion about the movie. Al, it does is whet your appetite to watch the movie but that never happens....
El hoyo (2019)
Pure Garbage....
This film was slow, long, boring with an ending that made no sense. I vote that we torture the writer & director by locking them in a room while making them watch this movie over & over until they burn the original copy so no one has to ever watch this movie & waste their time. Pure Garbage!
Caché (2005)
Tired? Fall Asleep To This One..
I don't know how this received a 7.3 but it's a complete waste of 2 hours with absolutely no ending. Avoid this movie by all means. Pure garbage!!
The Cove (2009)
Educational: Must See Documentary
WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY. IT'S HEARTBREAKING: I have been to Japan 3 times and I love the culture, the people & the cuisine. After seeing this documentary I am boycotting all Japanese products in my life. I will not buy another item that comes from Japan until the useless killing of dolphins & whales comes to a complete stop. There is absolutely no purpose in killing these creatures. They are not consumed as food because they have very high levels of mercury. They are killed because the Japanese fishermen say it's their tradition. If we don't stop the useless killing of dolphins & whales we will cause irreversible harm to our ecosystem which will be beyond repair. JAPAN,,,,STOP THE KILLING NOW.
The Upside (2017)
This Is Bad Remake...
This movie is a remake of a French film called, The Intouchables, made in 2011 which won a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. As usual, the original is much better. Omar Sy plays the streety guy & Francois Cluzet plays the parapaligent. Omar is a much more vibrant actor & Kevin Hart pales to Omar's performance. This remake is ok but does not evoke the same emotions you feel as the original. It was #44 on the Must See movie list but the remake is not on any list. Save your time watching this & watch the original even if you have to read subtitles...
The Reader (2008)
Not Worth Watching
Too long of a story written & made into a movie that goes no where. The main characters are tough, silent & show no remorse for their actions or lack thereof. It could have been a great movie but the writer got lost along the way. Don't know why any studio would make this movie. It made no money at the box office either. One depressing movie about hard Germans with no remorse, emotions or sensibilities.
Pariah: The Lives and Deaths of Sonny Liston (2019)
What Happened To Sonny
I was 12 years old when I watched the Patterson/Liston fight. In those days we paid $3 to watch the fight in the local movie house. Sonny's story is a "rags to riches to rags" story up til his death. When you watch this movie it all makes sense. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time especially back then. The mob ran boxing in the 50's & 60's & Sonny got involved with the wrong people. He was a champ but at the wrong time in boxing history. It's an interesting watch & story with a half a dozen endings.....
Silent Eye (2018)
Will have you scratching your head..
This a a compilation of four 30 minute seperate episodes that tries hard to be like Black Mirror or the Twilight Zone bit fails to hit the mark. The stories start out promising but fail to connect at the end leaving the viewer scratching their heads, trying to figure out the plot. Save your time & watch something else. It's a 5 for me....
Us (2019)
Too Awful To Review....
This is the worst movie in cinematic history. It's so confusing that I don't know where to start so I won't. Here's the skinney: don't pay to see it in the movies or on TV when it arrives. In fact, don't see it at all coz it's a waste of your valuable time. Pure unadulterated garbage from beginning to end. Like one reviewer wrote: "I'd rather have 2 hours of constant bleeding diarrhea than watch this film" & he's absolutely correct. That's how bad this movie is.....
The Rainbow Experiment (2018)
Waste of Film, Actors & Time
The story of a chemistry class experiment that goes wrong & for over 2 hours this movies bounces all over the place with as many as 4 split screens with interviews, parents, teachers, etc. arguing, fighting, blaming & just plain BS going in 5 different directions. In the end, nothing really happens & the movie pans out in reverse telling the audience this & that never happened. I can't imagine this garbage getting a 6.6 rating on this app. This movie sucked fro beginning to end....
Los Espookys (2018)
Buenos Noches For Good!!!
This is not even funny to a 6 year old. Armisens latest attempt to make a comedy but the reality is he wasn't funny even on SNL. So he & also talentless Lorne Michael's decide to take this garbage to a Spanish audience. Pathetic, sophmoric, childish waste of 30 minutes. To add insult to injury, if you don't understand Spanish, you will have to trudge thru the subtitles in English but that's the best part coz it put me to sleep during the second episode. Good sleeper show...Buenos Noches for good!
My Friend Raymond (2017)
True Faith
This is the true story of a man, who at the age of 11, had a bicycle accident & died on the way to the hospital. He was revived & lived to tell of his journey to heaven, his meeting with God & the evil spirits around him that interfere in his life. The directorbof the film is a friend & neighbor who documents this man's journey through life & his relationship with Jesus Christ.
A Girl Like Her (2015)
Mandatory Watch For Everyone !!!
This is a very important film about bullying in schools that should be a mandatory watch for parents and all teenage kids in high school. Bullying today is much different then 25 years ago. Today, with social media, videos, texting, chatrooms, etc. a bully can literally drive a person to suicide. They are able to post lies with photos & videos to belittle & embarrass the person they are bullying. It's so tragic & sad because there is no winner in this situation. This is a must watch movie for everyone especially the parents. They need to talk to their children to understand what's going on in their child's life and where they stand in the pecking order at school. Are their children being bullied or is their child the bully? Either way, the parents & the school faculty need to address it. At one point in our lives we all experienced being bullied but some we're strong enough to overcome the situation but others may decide to end it all and commit suicide. This movie is about what goes on now in schools all over the country.
Frances Stein (2015)
Pure Garbage
This is the worst movie I've ever seen. In fact, it's so bad you should watch it for 15 minutes just for laughs. The girl who plays Frances Steins daughter is the worst of the lot. The smarmy expression on her face shows the audience that she knows she's being taped & tries to make us believe that she can be an actress. She's that bad. The main character & her ex-husband in this movie actually wrote the storyline & convinced some insane movie executives to release this piece of crap.
Hardcore Henry (2015)
Extremely Dizzying
The camera is the main character racing & running through the movie. After 45 minutes I had to turn it off, take 3 Ibuprofen & try to get to sleep with a severe case of vertigo. A good cinematic idea gone awry. It's like the main character/director are on a high dose of speed. Not my kind of movie....
Locke (2013)
Wasted 90 Minutes of My Life
A 90 minute movie of a man driving in his car while his whole life falls apart. He's in his car receiving & making phone calls to various people including his wife, co workers, a woman he barely knows who's having his baby, nurses, etc. He leaves his wife & children, loses his job, his friends & co workers over a stranger having his child. The Director, Steven Knight should win the Raspberry Award for worst movie EVER! DONT WASTE 90 MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE ON THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE.
The Back Pages (2017)
Childish Stories
This show is nothing like "The Twilight Zone" or "Outer Limits" at all. This is childish amature writing with amature actors. It's 7 different episodes that are each 25 minutes (way too) long and a waste of time. Turn on another movie or show and stay clear of this one.
