The Revenant (2015)
A masterpiece
'The Revenant' provides me with all I have been looking for during the last year without success: a bunch of feelings, which get my full attention through the movie.
The film is based on a true story that leaves you without words. The realism is obvious from the very beginning. Believe me or not, but the natural light makes a difference. Native dialogues fit well in the script. Moreover, the interaction of the characters is fluent during the entire plot.
Leonardo DiCaprio's performance is majestic (he truly deserves an Oscar this time). He is able to express all the necessary types of feelings using few words. Tom Hardy makes a credible antagonist producing hate on the viewer. Even Will Poulter is good and believable in this movie.
In conclusion, when I watch a film, I search for learning and emotions and 'The Revenant' fulfill these requirements. Hence, I strongly recommend you to see this masterpiece, but please go to the cinema; it is worth it.
Ant-Man (2015)
Great Quantum Surprise
I went to watch "Ant-Man" with the idea of watching another commercial super-hero movie of our days. What a great surprise when I realized that this film was going to hold my attention and make me enjoy during the entire two hours of film.
The story is not too complex: the main character (Ant-Man) has to avoid the bad usage of the Pym technology, which is able to reduce the size of anything, with the help of Dr. Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter.
At first glance, saving the world does not seem any revolution in the genre. However, the idea and methodology of achieving this objective are fascinating. The way of dealing with the quantum world is outstanding. I love how the director has mixed the microscopic and macroscopic world and how it is explained during the film. At some point, it reminds me of "Interstellar" but applying the quantum theory instead of the theory of relativity. I also like the usage of the ants and the different roles of each type of ant.
"Ant-Man" is not the kind of movie that abuses of action scenes, which is welcome nowadays. Furthermore, I find terrific how hilarious moments are introduced during the whole plot. It has been literally irresistible not to laugh at certain moments of the film.
To sum up, I highly recommend "Ant-Man". You will not regret spending the price of the ticket.
Magic Mike XXL (2015)
Not as bad as expected
If you are going to the theater for this movie you have to be aware that you are going to definitely watch a male stripper film.
From my point of view, "Magic Mike XXL" is more superficial than the first "Magic Mike". It focuses too much to male dancing losing part of the deepness that made the first movie a good one to watch.
Although I missed Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum is really good at this film with great striptease performances. I would say he is better than in the first one. I have also liked the acting of Amber Heard, though his role is not fully developed in the movie. We can also easily see the chemistry among the guys. On the other hand, the songs and the staging are quite powerful.
To sum up, you will probably spend a good time watching this film, but in few hours you will forget it.
