The Longest Day (1962)
A Poor Showing
Full marks for trying to be historically accurate, but if you go by this film (glider troops apart) the Americans and the French were the only ones to actually fight on D Day, and of course the Germans.
The British sauntered ashore with a merry jest and bagpipes playing. According to this film the British would have suffered no casualties at all. A very skewed view of what actually happened.
The day was also notoriously overcast, and much of the action shown here is in bright sunlight.
Atonement (2007)
Disrespect
I can't forgive the image of British soldiers at Dunkirk riding on a fully lit 'Big Wheel'.
This is wrong on so many levels that they are almost uncountable
The Army Game (1957)
Fondly remembered
This was essential family viewing on a Friday night. My dad loved it, being ex army, and the success of the series over so many years is a tribute to the quality of the writing and the actors skills.
I well remember Geoffrey Palmer making his occasional cameo appearances.
As popular in its day as the later Dad's Army, and for similar reasons.
