Archie (2023)
This was the 'Dyan Cannon, my life with Cary Grant
I was very disappointed. I don't usually go for biopics but I loved all his films and was interested in who he really was -- beneath the, sauve, handsome, debonair actor. This was definitely not a story about Archibald Leach aka Cary Grant. Outside of a few snippets of his personal life, there was no real insight into the man himself. I didn't want the story about Dyan Cannon. Seemed like an attempt for her and her daughter to capitalize on Dyan's story. Which isnt that interesting. Not even a good actress. Truly disappointed, particularly since Britbox usually delivers outstanding stories. The two stars were for Jason Isaac.
Kulüp (2021)
Thank you Netflix
Netflix is helping to redine Turkish tv series and cinema. Bringing great scripts, hi quality production and good performances for the world to enjoy. But most of all daring to push beyond the usual Turkish soap operas (dizis). The Club is superb in every way. Don't miss it.
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
This was my first K Drama...Sets the bar high
I can only say this series was flawless. Direction, location, music, story. And the actors -- leads and supporting were superb. I will probably add this to films and series that are my go to for feel good entertainment.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
This was the best show I've seen
Brilliant. Outstanding performances. Thriller. Sometimes dark. Kept me totally engaged until the very end. Unexpected. A few flaws but then I got more than a legal drama. It was superb entertainment. Thought provoking. Viola Davis as Annalise, there are simply no words. I can't add more to what most reviewers wrote. But I can say this -- please keep bringing this level of quality stories to the world.
Dogdugun Ev Kaderindir (2019)
Waste of talented actor Ibrahim Celikkol's time
I started to watch series because of Ibo and to see if Demet could transition to drama. She didn't. She had three facial expressions; stunned blank face, crying without emotion, and a smile that didn't reach her eyes. And Ibo just looked older, tired and bored (probably because he knew he was wasting his talent and time.) I think people who gave 10s don't understand quality performances and scripts or they were paid. There was absolutely no chemistry between the two leads. Nothing made me connect to the story or characters. If you want to see real chemistry, solid performances and engaging story in this genre see Back and White Love with Ibrahim and Brice Akalay.
Sahsiyet (2018)
Outstanding, a big win for Turkish serials
So unlike Turkish series I've watch in the past. But with highly regulated environment its rare to see such themes dealt with. And no impossible unrealistic love stories with so many plot twists that I get dizzy in the midst of two to two and half hour episodes. Haluk Bilgindar was phenomenal as the lead and definitely deserved his international Emmy. Impressive performances from Cansu Dere and the supporting cast. Solid script, music and directing. A well told story in 12 episodes of a little over one hour. Hopefully we can see more Turkish shows of this caliber.
Dolunay (2017)
Disappointing after Erkenci Kus
All I can say is see this before EK. Otherwise you spend your time hoping for believable chemistry, strong secondary characters, good storyline. Never happens. Unfortunately Can Yaman is wasted in this series. Got thru 12 episodes barely because of him. Gave up, now rewatching EK. Do yourself a favor watch EK if you haven't.
