Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Great Acting!
I was very impressed with the acting of the 3 headline characters. They would each get a 9. Unfortunately, there was no story. It was all random, senseless, activities. Sure, you can figure out the "plot" - but why bother? The entitled producers of Hollywood owe the paying public more than this.
Song of the South (1946)
Welcome Back!
This movie demonstrates the confusion that children have trying to understand the adult world. The confusing adults were further demonstrated by the fact that this movie was hidden away, unavailable in the United States for many years.
Uncle Remus is wise, loving, insightful and funny. Aunt Tempt is talented, smart and not afraid to discipline. Grandma demonstrated her love and tenderness to Johnny and Toby equally.
Yes, there is much to "protect" children from. Must protect little ones from common sense, creative thinking and lessons learned.
This is wonderful story and, as a child, it offered me a view of good people and bullies, the world is full of both, and how to deal with them in life.
Welcome back Song of the South. Thank you for showing this little girl to think through my problems. Thank you for teaching me that human beings can be good and they can be mean whether they are foxes or rabbits or bears. (Polar bears, black bears or brown bears)...it doesn't matter, just the condition of the heart.
Invitation to the Dance (1956)
For artists of all kinds.
Gene Kelly was a visionary. He was passionate about his art and he was a master.
If you are passionate about your art and creativity, you will enjoy this celebration of dance. There is no dialogue to explain what is happening. There is no person telling you what to think. Kelly brings you to a moment and allows you to make the most of it.
Did you see love, pain, joy, desire, frustration, anger...congratulations!
Hustlers (2019)
Not what I expected!
Surprised that the theater wasn't filled with teenage boys...i guess even they thought it was too sophomoric.
The Lion King (2019)
Shocked by Disney.
I believe this is the lowest rating I have given for any Disney movie. I am surprised and disappointed at how lack-luster this movie was. From the exuberance of a child singing "I just can't wait" to the cunning Scar singing "be prepared" it was all the same dull, un-memorable performances of people who hum as opposed to people who sing their hearts out.
It was an animated movie first, Disney could easily have used most of the original cast. Really, the story was already written, the score already written, I expected much more thought to have been given to the performance of each character.
Captive State (2019)
Okay Job
I didn't go to this expecting Ben Hur. So I went in with the bar being pretty low. I was pleasantly surprised at the intricacies of the story. Yep, I had the twists figured out ahead of time. However, I usually see twists that I believe are coming that never come to fruition. I see that as leaving money on the table. So this was refreshing.
Not Schindler's List, but a good passage of 2 hours.
Murder on the Menu (2018)
Kudos to Hallmark MM & Holly
I just have to say kudos because the Detective/love interest is 5 years younger than Holly! It seems women age out much more quickly than male actors. So yeah to Hallmark for putting an actress with a younger man.
The show is typical HMM fair. If you enjoy the other movie series, you will like this one too.
Travelers (2016)
Hoping for Seasons 4, 5,6...
I really appreciate well written, intricate drama. Too often you get only one and WAY too often you get neither. The writing and direction are excellent and I hope they will continue to create for years to come.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Practically Perfect in Every Way!
This was a wonderful sequel to the beloved original. I would have given it a perfect 10 if not for the inclusion of the actress who likes to tell us what to think about something other than acting.
Music was great...you don't see "clever" very much any more...
I really enjoyed the performances of Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Of course, Dick Van Dyke & Angela Landsbury, were perfection.
A movie you can actually take the entire family to and thoroughly enjoy.
The Hate U Give (2018)
Excellent
All points of view represented. I started to cry and could not stop as the desperation to figure-out what can be done.
I found the initial crime unforgivable, but I also understood what the Uncle/cop was trying to say about all the contributing considerations an officer must make any time there is a traffic stop.
The acting was compellingly and completely believable.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Meh
I like Gaga's voice and Bradly did a fine job of singing and acting. Otherwise, I found no chemistry between them. Having seen two previous versions of A Star is Born, the plot was not a surprise. I found nothing compelling about this story. I had hoped for better.
