Born to Love (1931)
Talk about an over blown mess
Constance Bennett lays it on so thick that
you could cut it with a knife. Some of the worst acting Ive ever seen. Her expressions are so forced and over the top- its hard to watch. McCrea does no better spouting lines like " oh my darling " etc.
Calling it overly melodramatic would be putting it lightly. There is so much phoning it in here as if the actors are simply counting the minutes until the scene is over. Bennett simply cannot act or emote . And as with most movies of this time period - the writing was also bad - a lot of ridiculous over the top melodramatic sap. So combine that with bas acting makes this movie hard to watch. 1/10.
Dusty's Trail (1973)
Should have been left on the trail
The title says it all. Dustys trail or rather should
have been left on the trail. Terrible theme song and bob denver with a bad wig yeesh. Garbage tv at its worst. Forrest tucker must have been desparate for work back then, ftroop was bad enough as was his sat morning kids ghostbuster show. They could have named this show Gilligan Goes West since they basically reused the same types of plot lines and characters as Gilligan's Island. The theme song sounds like it was thrown together by children and its just awful. Very unwatchable , then again anything with Bob Denver in it is difficult to watch.
1/10.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Excellent tearjerker of a movie. j
I don't understand all the negative reviews of this movie. I think Jude Law knocked it out of the park with this one. He conveys just about every heartbreaking emotion that Albus Dumbledore experiences in this movie. As for Mads Mikkelsen, I'm not really familiar with the actors work besides His role in the doctor strange movie. What I will say about him is he does hit on some of his characters emotion. But he does not knock it out of the park like Jude Law does.
As for the fantastic beasts they really don't play a huge role besides the magical creature that decides who rules All of the wizarding world. I mean there are other creatures but there are pretty much secondary characters.
I do wish that they had explored Queenies character more , She is almost non existent in this this movie , Her character does very little and her sister Tina is all but limited to a short cameo at the end.
The main reason that I give this a 10 out of 10 is because I'm a middle aged man and I cried during the final battle between dumbledore and grindelwald. The heart ache that dumbledore feels is gut wrenching. And then to see him walk off in the night alone at the end of the movie just broke my heart.
Twice in a Lifetime (1985)
Talented cast in a movie that suffers from bad writing .
I remember seeing Twice In A Lifetime back in 1985 during it's theatrical run ,I enjoyed the movie but did not really analyze it .
I recently got a chance to rewatch it and really noticed how bad the screenplay was especially for Ellen Burstyn's character.
Her role of the wife Kate McKenzie is so badly underwritten , in one scene Gene Hackman's character Harry McKenzie is telling her why he
is leaving her for another woman , it's so painful not because of just him dumping on her but because he feels that this other woman can give him a fresh start
since he feels that Kate treats him like wallpaper. I mean in the beginning scenes of the movie you know they are not in a good marriage but she never treats him like that and actually tries to reach out to him. It's a shame that her character was not fleshed out more , all we get is a few scenes of a tired woman who probably hasn't been treated fairly and is driven down by her neglectful husband.
The impression that I got was that Harry had driven his wife down so far , that she basically stopped trying to make her appearance any better,
I mean warranted Kate was not a pretty woman but she didn't bother to wear make up or better clothes. She was portrayed very drab and seemed to care more about the kids and game shows. So Harry selfishly goes to a bar and flirts with barmaid Audrey played by Ann Margret who in my opinion drags this movie down with her
gross come ons and wooden empathy . In one scene she practically attacks Harry in bed , panting like a dog in heat . Yuck. Their whole dynamic just doesn't work,
I just find it very unrealistic that a man like Harry would turn any woman on with his looks and behavior.
Harry also tells Kate in the scene where he is leaving ,that Audrey is not younger than she is but in reality Ann Margret was 9 years younger than Ellen Burstyn ,44 compared to 53 is a big gap for a woman. That and the fact they have Ann Margret all dolled up compared to Ellen Burstyns old maid drabness, she finally has a beauty makeover during the last 3rd of the movie but lets be honest, even in full makeup and a blond dye job ,Ellen Burstyn is no match for Ann Margret in the looks dept.
The saving grace to the movie are the roles of Harry's 2 daughters played by Amy Madigan and Ally Sheedy. Sunny played by Madigan is this headstrong
tough woman who thinks that marriage should last forever no matter what and really lays into her father about his infidelity while Helen played by Sheedy is more kind hearted and is about to get married - the scene with her dad on the porch at night is the best in the movie. Overall I rate it 6/10 because the talented cast gets wasted in a bad screenplay that basically tells the story of a philanderer who justifies his behavior just because he can and also doesn't care about his family's feelings ,blaming it on his wife more than himself ,if anything he and Audrey will end up splitting once he gets tired of her in 5 years.
Hook (1991)
Yet another example of a movie that got bad over time.
Hook is yet another example of a movie that seemed good when it came out but years later you realized just how bad it was. From the miscasting of actors to the really bad set designs and the overall story which is a bit of a mess too. Let's face it getting short sh** Dustin hoffton to play Captain Hook has got to be one of the biggest miscasts of all time. I mean in my opinion the man can't act he is just a big ham. Robin Williams at least tries to have fun in the roll even if it is a bit overacted. Now why they didn't CGI tinker bell mystifies me. Having a live action Julia Roberts with brown hair and a brown outfit Is just wrong wrong wrong not to mention in the Disney cartoons Tinkerbell never talked.
Let's move on to the plot which is totally made up and was never written by the author of Peter Pan. A grown up middle aged Peter Pan having to remember who he is and going back to neverland to face captain hook whose kidnapped his kids. At the time it seemed like an amusing concept but when I watch it now you see how bad it really is and why it doesn't work on so many levels. From the lost boys who look more like kids stepping out of a Coca-Cola commercial to The pirates who look more like something out of a Monty Python comedy.
Now let's not forget Bob Hoskins as a fat bumbling drunk Smee.
King of the Hill: Little Horrors of Shop (1999)
Hated the show and this episode was the worst
Yes its a cartoon with fictional characters.
But I hated this show especially Peggy hill.
She was such a self centered b@#$%. And this episode really shows that. When Hank ends up being a substitute teacher and more popular she tries to sabotage every move he makes and she becomes extremely stuckup and even more selfish. What really makes me mad is the fact that she has no experience being a teacher ,she has no idea of how to teach any subject yet she substitutes in so many classes. Especially the Spanish class where she is so smug thinking she is this pro in Spanish when she doesn't have a clue of how to speak it. And the end of the episode has her winning the substitute teacher of the year because of Hank's suspension. We all know there's no such award but she shouldn't even be in a position of teaching to begin with. I hated her character and I wished that they would have had her get run over by a car.
Predator 2 (1990)
Mess of a movie
Predator already let the cat out of the bag with the creepy scary unseen alien and it worked.
The best part was the alien wasn't revealed until near the end of the movie .Now with Predator 2 much like every
other cash grab sequel that gets made when the first movie is a blockbuster - there is nothing new added - we already know who and what
the antagonist is so rather than try and do something different they simply just rehash the originals plot with the only difference being location . Another mistake is the miscasting of the hero -Danny Glover - he is totally wrong here and looks and acts much like his Lethal Weapon counterpart - overacting and hammy plus he does not have the body for an action hero-a bit scrawny. Almost as if they cast him just to be PC for a black actor. And don't even get me started on Gary Busey's phoning it in portrayal of a covert special ops type guy who's been tracking the predators and seem to know all about their recent activities by having all this intel from the mission that Schwarznegger and his crew went on in the previous movie . The action scenes are just a repeat of the predator killing and skinning people and hiding etc. The ending is ridiculous too when you think about how hard these creatures are to kill and Glover does it rather easily and when several other predators show up ,they dont kill him -the leader simply throws him a pistol from the year 1715 (showing that these creatures have been around hunting humans for centuries )and then leaves . Its like this stupid honor system where the predators respect Glover now that he' s in a sense become the hunter instead of the prey. 4/10 and that's generous.
Black Widow (2021)
Overhyped boring mess
This movie had been so publicized that it was a long time coming. And that
it was essential viewing for the MCU movie fan etc. Man they couldnt have been more wrong . Long and drawn out , and somewhat confusing , this movie has lots of action, unfortunately its still lousy because it does nothing to
add to the MCU universe. The black widow is a disjointed mess of overblown action scenes and extremely boring dramatic sequences of the characters just droning on and on and it just go nowhere. The after credits scene is also such
a cliche. With the black widows sister being shown Hawkeyes picture by an operative to go after him since as the operative put it ,hawkeye was responsible for her death which is total BS. As we all know the black widow committed suicide so hawkeye could get the soul stone . I hate movies that are lousy but the Scarlett J fans will no doubt plunk down money just to see her in tight outfits - who cares that the movie stinks. She could be reading a candy bar label on screen and her fans would pay to see it .
The Haunting of Grady Farm (2019)
Another found footage plodding mess
I watched Blair WItch in 1999 because I was attracted to this new genre of found footage .The jerky camera angles made it seem more amateurish and not done by a professional camera man which added to the excitement factor. Of course they also added a publicity stunt that this was an actual real found footage film and the characters had all disappeared which turned out to be one of the most famous hoaxes when the actors who played the characters turned up and revealed that the whole movie was fictituous. . They worked it perfectly and made a ton of cash .
So just like with reality shows when Survivor first aired, the floodgate of found footage films just erupted but unlike Blair Witch , the concept was no longer original and the excitement faded because we all know all of these so called found footage films are fictituous and not real even if they say otherwise like based off actual events. And now 20 years later we have yet another cheap , poorly produced found footage movie "The Haunting of Grady Farm " . The characters are the same stupid group of people you see in every low budget crappy horror movie that is direct to DVD. There's also a lot of subliminal images on the found footage that shows the demise of several characters for a split second before it actually happens . WTF?
The whole premise of an actual show within a show doesn't work , it looks so phony and badly acted with some woman claiming to be a doctor and talking about the Grady farm as well as interviews from various people.
They are supposed to be filming for a TV show about hauntings yet they have these cheap cameras and who exactly are these people?, they look like a bunch of college kids on spring break. They go to a place that is private property without getting permission into a wooded area that has been reported as unsafe and have beem told that people have disappeared there too. Ok,it's a movie but for once would it have been too much to have the writers have an actual idea of what to do ? No, they do the same thing as all others have done , gather stupid people of college age and have them do the same stupid things , run and shout in the dark -of course go off alone and of course dont bring any weapons or at least hire some security. There is no suspense when you know everyone is going to die ,it's just a matter of waiting the boring few minutes of jerky camera angles and static to see someone get grabbed by an invisible entity or see a blur on screen which is supposed to be the monster. Oh and speaking of cameras, in one scene you see two of the characters being spied and filmed by someone but you dont know who since all they show is a hand on some bushes. And there are also other video cameras who's footage would indicate that they are at least 20 feet off the ground and they are in random places in the middle of the woods ,who set those up because it sure wasnt our dumb band of idiots. Was it the hillbilly they find in the dilapadated house ? Who was he? It's never revealed if he was a Grady and why was he there alone ? He obvioulsy knew about the evil creatures in the woods and tried to help the kids by telling them to be quiet until morning when it would be safe but no, they run away screaming into the dark and when 2 of them return , the hillbilly is dead on the floor ,it isn't revealed how he died ,was it a blast from the shotgun he had in his hands or something else? You dont know because all you see is blood and his feet and one of the characters grabs the shotgun offscreen.
Too much formulaic garbage that the writers use. It's the same tired stupid college age kids doing the same stupid horror movie cliches . At least put a little more into the writers budget and hire someone who has more than an ounce of brain.
Stay Away, Joe (1968)
Are you kidding me?
I read up on this movie as it was coming on TCM this morning and thought who came up with this offensive garbage. Based off a stage play? Another example of the bigotry of white america. Just like minstrel shows , its how white america had that white makes right mentality. Make fun of everyone else.
Stay Away is an appropriate title , too bad the bigoted racist who came up with this story didnt stay away. I watched 5 minutes which was 4 minutes too long. Seeing white actors done up with brown makeup is just like how they did minstrel shows for blackface. For 1967 shows how white america was and in some respects still is full if racists and bigots.
I have no interest in even trying to watch this further. Burgess Meredith in brown face and a Mexican woman also playing a Navajo Indian .SMH to this garbage.
Home Alone (1990)
Love this classic but really hate the family
This is a timeless classic . Hard to believe it's 30 years old. I remember how I laughed seeing it in the theatre. Macaulay Culkin is a delight to watch in his 10 yo innocence as are comic veterans Pesci and Stern. When they are on the screen , it's the best. Now the bad part , Culkins movie family the McCaliisters , OMG talk about insenistive uncaring jerks , From his parents to his siblings to his cousins to his freeloading ahole of an Uncle. They just insult and are so mean to Kevin(Culkin)at every turn . His parents don't seem to give a rats arse about him ,
and all of the other family members are as equally rude and mean . The uncle gets my award for the most revolting irritating character ever. And let's not forget Buzz the older brother , if I had an older brother like that ,I would have disowned him out of my life once I grew up and left the house. The uncle I would have kicked him so far his ancestors would have felt it . They are the hardest scenes to watch when they are on screen since it's all mean and not funny . It's no wonder Kevin wishes they would disappear. Another character though who helps the movie along is the old man next door played by Roberts Blossom , he has a warm scene with Kevin in a church that really makes the movie shine . He shows up at the end too to save Kevin.
I dont know why they had to have the family be such cruel , disgusting people.
Anyway I give it an 8/10 .
True Grit (2010)
Who green-lighted this garbage?
This has to be one of the most overhyped ridiculously praised movies ever.
Lets start with Hailee Steinfeld - terrible wooden acting and how the devil she got nominated for an oscar just goes to show how far hollywood has fallen when they nominate rap songs and movies like crash and make them winners. She is the worst actress ever. Jeff Bridges butchers the role that John Wayne immortalized ,
he talks like he has a mouth full of syrup and quite honestly makes you wonder if he really is doped up ,drunk or both. Most of the time you cant understand a word he says . Matt Damon , who the heck cast him ? awful terrible miscasting ,he does not belong here . he looks like a kid with fake whiskers glued on and basically phones it in. Josh Brolin also doesnt belong here either , another forgettable performance and he also phones it in.
The Coen brothers to me are overrated hacks. Most of their movies are dull plodding messes. Add this to the list. total garbage and whomever is calling this a masterpiece is on something.
Shutter Bugged Cat (1967)
Recycle Garbage
I don't know why this short was even made , it's simply a reworking of
the far superior short "Designs on Jerry" from 1955 and even shamelessly borrows clips from that short. i mean, it's really stupid and adds nothing . Just a really dumb ending with Tom tearing up his work instead of cussing. Total garbage.
Alien³ (1992)
Disappointing to say the least
I vaguely remember when this movie came out in theatres and I had already heard
the general consensus was that i was lousy. It was probably 10 years later before I actually watched it on DVD and I probably watched it 3 or 4 more times over the years. I tired to find some redeeming qualities but cannot. It kind of defeats the whole purpose of Aliens ending , you have Newt ,Hicks , Bishop and Ripley all surviving and then you kill all of them off except Ripley. I cannot imagine that this was the original idea yet i see that Weaver co-produced. I've read some other articles that the plot was rewritten several times from having an adventure with the surviving characters from Aliens to killing all except Ripley.
The dark depressing theme with ugly characters and a lot of plot holes just adds to the lousiness. Gritty is one think but it's more of a cop out. If you ask me when and if they finally tie the prequels to the current alien universe they should retcon Alien 3 and Resurrection which were both total garbage. Weaver should not be allowed to have creative control either. It shouldnt become a one woman show , Weaver is a good actress but its time to pass that torch.
Hell House LLC (2015)
Shades of Blair Witch ,
A few good scares but of course the same utter stupidity , people who dont take the hint when something is terribly wrong. They get to a point where they know something sinister is happening yet still do not leave. its the same formula even the found footage , almost like they do on ghost chasers .
I know it's part of the plot but it would have been nice had they actually tried to veer from formula . the clown mannequin mysteriously moves around the hotel yet they still argue over it and the guy in the basement who was obviously attacked by a demonic spirit , why didnt they look at the footage on the camera and see what happened the night he was attacked. I for one would have liked to see a confrontation to where the demonic spirit is exposed and destroyed or banished or maybe even some good spirits who help fight off the bad ones.\
its always the same , everyone dies and lets set up a sequel. 6/10
America Says (2018)
An ok game show
An interesting premise , guessing the top 7 answers to fill in the blank questions from a poll involving the American public. Not a lot of money though considering you have 4 people and they only get 1,000 for winning a match against another team and 15,000 if they win the bonus game meaning 4 thousand a piece, Not chump change but nothing compared to other shows like TPIR ,Wheel Of Fortune or Who wants to be a Millionaire.
Now the bad part , besides the hosts cornball humor , quite a few of the contestants
are idiots , they repeat answers that were said by the person before them or repeat the same answer they already said. Or they reply out of turn costing their team time
in the bonus round. That's where I'd wanna slap someone, to hear the same person hear an answer and then repeat it as their guess , i mean are these people that dense or just mentally challenged?
Sex and the City (1998)
Fun to watch but overall gets a bit tired
I started watching this show sporadically when it went into reruns on E network etc. While I did find it fun to watch at times , for the most part I got tired of the Mr Big crap , the man was a seriously unattractive louse of a man and Carrie was just not all that pretty and a slut too. Their on again off again thing got tired really fast. She really is not the married type in a real life scenario nor would Miranda or Samantha be. Charlotte while a married type is too boring with her lovelife , she wants to be a princess etc yada yada. Miranda is so ugly and sorry but she is so totally unbelievable as a single mom and yes Cynthia Nixon is a lesbian but so is her character Miranda, I cant imagine any man thinking she could be straight with her mannish appearance . Samantha is at least a slut and we know she's a slut , the only character who could actually exist in the real world.
Overall the Mr Big thing goes on far too long and drags it down . And the fact they were both lying cheaters makes it such a cliche that they end up together.
If anything they are not people youd want to date or even be with period.
So we have 2 movies afterwards that just play that same game with Mr Big again being the central plotline. boring boring boring. Im glad they finally stoppped making more of this schlock. It was more fun to watch when the ladies were all single and barhopping and not getting tied down to one and done useless male characters.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Suspenseful and entertaining but some plot points lacking
Enjoyed the movie for the most part and the creepiness and suspense was definitely the highlight. The first half of the movie all in silence adds to the tension, the main protagonist couple loses a small child in the beginning to terrifying unknown creatures because the daughter gives him a toy that the father specifically told him he could not have. That is a necessary plot point albeit ignorance and disrespect of the daughter and the small child knowing the consequences of making noise which is what the toy was designed to do. Fast forward to the family living in silence, the mother is pregnant ,another plot point that comes into play later in the movie, babies make a lot of noise so not smart ,most likely they wanted a child to replace the lost one. The writers added these plot points that make it more tense but in reality why would you want to bring a child into such a terrifying place and one where the baby's normal noises would risk lives . Of course they build a soundproof shelter under the house complete with a small chamber with air to keep the baby's noises hidden . Why didn't they just go in that soundproof area to talk to each other in the first place and not have the tense moments avoiding knocking things over accidentally which does eventually happen. A lot of these plot point made no sense and more than likely added to create more tensions and scary moments. Such as they already know the creatures track by even the slightest sound, so why wouldnt a plot point involve more ways to distract them , since they are sound sensitive I'm sure someone in the billions of people could exploit that weakness with high frequency sound and other ways to incapacitate them.
It's not really explained where the creatures came from ,we only see glimpses of the newspaper clipping the father has saved about a meteorite landing which brings the assumption they are aliens and that they have virtually indestructible armor plating ,even to nukes? i mean you could dig large deep pits and lure them in with sound devices like the egg timer the wife has or fireworks like the son uses later on and trap them - then try gassing them or something else , they have to breathe so why not . Well, its a movie so certain reasonable plot points make no sense , the ignorance of the children especially the deaf daughter which causes the father to lose his life . That in itself is a rather stupid scene of self sacrifice. And the signal fires they light at night , the creatures relay on sound and are blind but can they smell ? And we only see 1 other human character ,an old man who dies after his wife is killed . Where are the other people lighting the other fires we see early in the film, later in the film the kids light another fire but we do not see the other fires anymore . Does this mean the other people who lit them before are dead? . There are plot holes of course as to why there are no other people seen besides the family and the old man? Did the military get over run by these creatures? If this random deaf girl discovered how to use feedback from her hearing aid to fight the sound sensitive creatures , wouldnt someone far more intelligent like a scientist have found that out ? Such things make the movie less plausible and more on the suspend belief category .Yes it's fictional but sometimes it would be nice if the writers threw in some common sense and not way too many inconsistencies.
Jaws 2 (1978)
Unecessary sequel
Obviously made to cash in on the coat tails
of Jaws. The novel was not written by Benchley
for obvious reasons. Jaws was an original one shot story , there was
no reason for a sequel except money. Totally inferior mess teen beat movie for the mind numb. There is nothing original ,jaws already did the shark attack movie which was excellent, This mess of a sequel is boring and all the teenage actors you want to just slap the crap out of them, they are so mind numbingly boring bad actors and actresses who spend most of their screen time spouting potty mouth dialog and screaming. A totally unnecessary waste of time and money for this film every copy should be burned.
Three's Company: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow (1983)
Funny episode that could have been better.
One of the few episodes with Priscilla Barnes thats actually funny.
Terri falls for Jack who has donned a fake moustache.
Turns out with the moustache, he looks like an old bf with whom she was infatuated with the point of no return. More hijinks ensue once Jack finds out that she is really falling for him. Now here is where the problem with this episode lies, the characters are not allowed to explore the possibility of actually having genuine feelings for each other. The mechanics of the show making it to where the main characters are off limits to each other yet in two episodes the bumbling Larry dates both Janet and Terri( both terrible episodes since neither girl is interested in him,Janet literally has to pretend to be something shes not to turn him off.
I would have liked to have seen Jack have a real talk with Terri
about her old bf and the infatuation,at least that would have given
Jack the benefit of the doubt to get to the truth. Instead we have
Janet once again interfering and meddling because her character
is written as this insecure jealous twit who always has to
scheme at others expense. There was one episode where Janet thought Jack was dating a prostitute , Of course in the end when Jack tries to seriously find out why Janet's been acting like such a b****, she stuffs her mouth full of potato chips to avoid answering his question. If the roles had been reversed , there would have been a scene with Janet slapping him or beating him up or throwing stuff at him etc. With Janet's character it was always a double standard Jack was always the fall guy when it came to the roommate's even when it was the girl's fault. Thats why I really hated the ending of this episode because Janet interferes and Jack once again gets burned.
Snowglobe (2007)
Family full of jerks
Angela is a single girl trying to live her life. Her family is full of jerks though who treat her badly. From her loud mouthed mother to her free loading kin. Her pregnant sister is especially a jerk as is her lazy good for nothing husband. Finally she finds some happiness in a magical snowglobe. Too bad in real life you cant get away from a bad family full of snotty jerks. In the end which is a cliché she ends up happy with a convenient boyfriend but her family are still jerks in my opinion.
Maid to Order (1987)
Ally Sheedy is cute but cute doesn't make for a good movie
Ally Sheedy in the 80's was a very cute girl and did some good movies however this is not one of them. The whole rags to riches in reverse has been done better in other movies. Sheedy plays Jessie a spoiled rich b word brat who's dad wishes she didn't exist. It is hard to believe that (Jessie)Sheedy is this rich arrogant b word. Paris Hilton could have played herself without any acting required as she is a major spoiled b word in real life. It's just that Sheedy is too cute and plays it too cute ,you cant hate her or even think she ever was a b word.
She is just this klutz who way too quickly turns over a new leaf and wraps it up in a bow. The clichéd ending is so lame too. Makes you wonder if they simply phoned the script in. The supporting actors also seem to sleepwalk through their lines. Such a waste of talent too as some well known comedic talent must have been desperate.
Justice League (2017)
DC has a long way to go
DC so far has lagged way behind Marvel in entertaining movies. Only Christian Bale's Batman has lived up to the hype. I did like Wonder Woman too but it still isn't top notch for all its hype. Justice League is a mess of a movie , it actually had me yawning for most of it. The action is boring and the villain is really a disappointment. Steppenwolf ? wasn't that a rock band in the 70's?. If anything why didn't they have Darkseid? . And of course during the end credits we have Luthor and Deathstroke appearing hinting at the Injustice League. Looking at box office results, the Justice League better pick it up to even break even. 5/10
Chain Reaction (2006)
The most painful 30 minutes of TV
Besides the 90210 host, this show had the most unattractive stupid contestants. painful to watch and the host indicating that you can win a lot of cash if you play well. what was this guy on?. the most i saw anyone win was around 7000 and that was split amongst 3 players on the winning team. 2500 is nice change but compared to other games shows like TPIR or Wheel ,its peanuts.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Beautiful cinematography and some amusing moments.
I've seen some reviews comparing it to the 1974 version. Having never seen that version as I was much too young when it came out in 1974 was probably a good thing. One thing that was very nice was the beautiful cinematography. I never had an interest in these type movies much but the actors in it drew me in. Kenneth Branaugh is rather amusing with the ridiculous moustache which in itself deserves an Oscar for the makeup artist who created it. His Poirot is amusing and delivers the best lines without missing a trick. Johnny Depp as a sleazy art dealer also has some good scenes. The rest of the cast though is disappointing , although it's not entirely their fault as Branaughs direction suffers from sleepwalking ,as if the actors are phoning it in. Judi Dench and her servant are wasted in their roles, Salma Hayek is just terrible , she does not belong in this movie. Daisy Ridley of the new Star Wars trilogy is also miscast here , while a decent actress, she is just uneven. And Michelle Pfeiffer who physically has not aged well does have a few moments towards the end of the movie but by then it's a bit too late. I kind of figured out who did it halfway through the movie so the ending twist was no surprise at all.
