Tommyknockers (2022)
Really good movie
Really good movie! The kind of movie that gives you that old nostalgic feeling, only with Shawn C Phillips and Tom Sizemore appearing in this one. Night of the Tommyknockers is a good western horror flick that conveys its message in time and moves along nicely. The action pack sequences were very good and the acting above all was normal at times and then there's a couple that unfortunately spoil the illusion but that can't be helped, especially if they paid for their roles. Mahal Empire's Tommyknockers is worth watching in my humble opinion and it's certainly worth your time. There's definitely worse out there.
Growing Shadows: The Poison Ivy Fan Film (2019)
Wow, that's all I can say about this beautifully made fan film
Beautifully shot, love the use of lighting - you could tell who Ivy's visitor was from the framing of the shadows on his face, a SUPERB touch. A far far better Ivy than Uma Thurman, that's for sure! 4/5 dark and atmospheric, a clever take on the comic narrative. This was absolutely incredible, guys. Literally the perfect representation of the duo's relationship. Of course Ivy knows Batman's identity, she's seduced him so many times! It's such a cool idea, so glad it could be represented here. Amazing performances from the lead duo, I hope to see them reprise their roles in the future! The acting, cinematography and very interesting lighting have all portrayed a very "tender" and interesting dynamic between Ivy and Bruce. It gave a lot more emotional depth, and gave Ivy the sympathetic portrayal that fans have been wanting for ages. You guys totally did her justice!
I'm very happy to see the strong influence from the Poison Ivy: Cast Shadows comic. As a story that demonstrated the complex relationship with Ivy and Bruce, while still keeping their (somewhat) sexual tension, I think you've shown that aspect very well, and it's always nice to see classics adapted well on film.
Also, lastly, thank you for doing Ivy's trademark kiss! I must concede that I've always been a fan of a very sexualized Ivy, although I know there's much more to her character than just oozing sex appeal. Still, just a personal preference. The kiss was done very nicely. Hope that last comment doesn't detract from everything else you've done a great job on!
Bushwhacker Blues (2022)
A Western Deliverance. Great soundtrack.
A great homage to old fashioned western movies. Jim Campbell's Bushwhacker Blues sets up a poetic yet disturbing take on South Dakota's dark underbelly in the early 1900's. Had a 'From Dusk Till Dawn' feel to it when it takes a change for the worst - in a good way.
The characters performed really well within the time limit and it works for a short horror. I hear the director is doing a feature length western soon. Yes, he should absolutely do it. Especially with an actor from GTAV and The Walking Dead.
The music score was fantastic! Composed by talented musicians. Creating an eery and spooky banjo theme. Well done for winning the award! Bushwhacker Blues is a great short film to watch when you get the chance. Not to spoil anything but I wished the ending had more. Tiny bit abrupt but it kept me hooked and that's possibly the best thing about it. Deserves way more views on youtube for a werewolf film.
