Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Easily the worst of the 3
I went to watch this with high hopes. I loved the first two films i love the 90s cartoon series with a passion. the trailers looked great and i was happy that it was 2hrs 30 mins long, until i started watching. I like a long film but when it drags on this much i was just getting bored and annoyed.
The best thing about this film was the CGI, it was pretty amazing especially the transformation of sandman. But the fight scenes were very fast (couldn't hardly see what was happening in the first battle) followed by very very slow story telling. Some of the dialogue and acting was horrible in places and just OK for the rest of the film. An emotional scene on the bridge where peter starts crying was laughable (as can be heard from the hundreds laughing in the cinema) The news reporter at the end was horrible, pretty much most of the story telling was just laughable. You could tell people in the cinema weren't happy with this film.
There were points in this film where i couldn't take it any more and was thinking of walking out, and where the hell had his spidey sense gone, he was useless.
I even went to see it again the next day to get another view on it and i was even more bored. Not a lot happens in the 2 1/2 hours and i left feeling very disappointed. The only reason im giving it a six is because its spiderman and the effects were brilliant, everything else below average.
Superman Returns (2006)
Superman's super again!
To start i have to say i was impressed when i saw this film, simply because i am a big fan of the originals (1&2), and this film stayed true to the old styles but with a bit more romance in it (and a bit more budget i have to say). Everyone asks how the hell can you replace Christopher Reeve, you cant, but what you do get is a very similar and brilliant performance from Brandon Routh who gets Christopher Reeves mannerisms of Clark Kent down to a T. Not only does he look the part he plays the part as well. Kevin Spacey is like in any other film, just brilliant and Kate Bosworth As Lois is good but for me too nice and weak compared to Margot Kidders character.
The plot which i wont go into is again like the first in a sense in that Lex Luther is after land/real estate but it is completely different to the first in its execution and outcome.
The effects are superb and the flying is totally convincing (you'll remember the double plane rescue for a while).
Die hard fans of the original will love the opening credits, an exact recreation of the original and hearing the music in the cinema bought a tear to my eye. That said the end has been exactly recreated where superman is in space sways from left to right, smiles at the camera and flys off, superb. A big impact is the archive footage of Marlon Brando which was definitely needed in the film, and also a few phrases from the original thrown in as well.
All in all acting was great, action was superb, and probably wont win any awards for the plot, but every superman fan thinking the worst for this film can lay those thoughts to rest because this was a fantastic film rivalling or even beating the originals.
A must see for fans and non fans alike.
Fahrenheit (2005)
Best game this year? Definitely
I've just completed the game and i think it is absolutely amazing. the story is brilliant and the voice acting is class. I'm a big fan of the Shenmue series so i loved the QTE's with the analog stick. I couldn't stop playing this game it just sucked me in. The tension, the sex, the twists everything. definitely best game of the year and definitely ranking as one of the best games I've played. I'm sure everyone who's played it by now thinks the same. If you haven't got this game read all the comments on it because you must play this game. its that good. if anyone who has got it and doesn't like it you've got no say on the matter.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Film of the year? without a doubt!
Well what can i say. After being horribly disappointed by the phantom menace and with attack of the clones being fairly average i still kept my hopes up for this film. and did george lucas deliver? he certainly did. I came out the cinema simply speechless.
the film started off great and got better throughout, i wouldn't have changed it one bit.(i wont give anything away) The reason i give it 9 and not 10 is because there is some small cases of dodgy acting but this takes almost nothing away from a somewhat unbelievably excellent film. I was wondering how lucas would put everything in place and in the space of 2 hours 20 mins without getting people confused and i was pleased to find that he has. everything is answered and at a good flowing rate.
But the film would not have been as good if it wasn't for what should be an Oscar winning performance from Ian Mcdiarmid who was absolutely superb and of course another superb musical score which was pretty absent from the previous prequels. It is visually amazing and the story and suduction to the dark side is brilliant. Before you get your hopes up jar jar doesn't die but he only appears briefly (thank god). In the cinema the film got a round of applause which it truly deserves and i left thinking that was amazing. My friend was crying due to the dark emotional scenes and the fact that it could not have been a better film.
Overall from being a fan of the originals and thinking the other two weren't up to par, i can safely say this. LUCAS HAS DELIVERED. A simply must see film. And second best out of the 6 in my opinion (second to Empire). i rest my case.
