Blue Murder (2003)
Not credible
Took to watching this as I had finished viewing the excellent Scott and Bailey. I love the British crime procedurals - they are the best in the business.
Blue Murder, however is highly unbelievable. A woman would never achieve the rank of DCI whilst of the age that the lead is meant to be (prime child-bearing age). And there is no way that any DCI would be leading murder inquiries from her living room with her baby on her knee. And as for doing interviews as the SIO, she would have DCs or DSs doing that.
I couldn't get past the first episode of season 2. I know it was made back in the early 2000s but that's not really an excuse. The script writing is very bland and as a series does not know where it wants to go.
The Bay (2019)
Not up to the earlier seasons
This season (5, I believe) is a disappointment. The earlier seasons had great storylines and acting. This season seems to be the same story repeated with some tweaks.
The lead character, a family liaison officer is not very likeable and spends the whole series fighting with her mother, husband, children and stepchild.
We don't really care about her family dynamics, but it seems all there is in this season.
Have the script writers run out of ideas? And it's never a good idea to have your lead be such an annoying personality.
If there is another season, unless there are some changes in the characters, I won't be rushing to view. There's far better police procedurals (British made) that I can be watching.
Time (2021)
Season 1 - 8. Season 2 - 5
Just finished watching season 2 after having watched season 1a couple of years ago.
I love the English police, courtroom and crime dramas. No-one does it better.
Time, should've been split into the two seasons for rating purposes.
Season one was far superior, right story and superb acting lead by Sean Bean (as usual).
Season two lacked a good story and was a bit more mushy. And the part about living in a tent after she was released seems a bit far fetched.
I see that the original scriptwriter was joined by someone new for season two. If there is to be a season three, hope they go back to the original scriptwriter.
Catch Me A Killer (2024)
Top Series - Up There With the Best
A lot of firsts in this series, and the message comes across very strongly. Profilers were few and far between in the nineties even in the US let alone in South Africa. Micki Pistorius is a pioneer in the field, so much so that she gets the attention of Robert Ressler, who defined the term, serial killer.
The series takes the viewer on a journey of the first South African profile as she goes about solving cases of many serial killers. All are real cases. I never knew there were so many serial killers operating in South Africa.
It's well made and a little concerning but well worth watching. I recommend it.
