Star Trek: Prodigy (2021)
I am kinda hooked
Watched the pilot episode. I am not really sold on the main protagonist cockiness and the constant jokes, breaking every possible moment, but what got me is the bond between the misfits cast. I felt like I am watching a story. I really hope they do make something with that story, that it goes somewhere by the end of the season. That the characters evolve, create relationships. And have an ending...actual ending. I don't find "smart", endings like Nolan's spinning top, still casing arguments. That ain't clever, that is "I don't know what to say", so let me leave this cliffhanger.
Underwater (2020)
Dead space in water x SOMA, count me in!
So, I had this on my radar. Didn't really know much, perhaps a quick review in the Tube from Chris Stuckman. Not even that, just checked the score. That said....I had a blast! I mean, yes they could've done more and yes the cheesy parts are there, but I can't remember the last time I didn't have to check my watch when watching a movie. It sucks you in the first 5 minutes of the events and goes on and on until the third act when it actually slowed down a bit. In my book, that's a colossal win. Choose a night, turn off the lights and do take your plasma cutter, 'couse you gonna need it. Ohh boy, you wish you did take it!
Apparently this was completed in 2017, but somehow released January 2019!? I have no idea why it sat in the drawer for 2 years, but it is one thrill of a ride. I wouldn't mind a second part somehow.
Turbo Kid (2015)
Set your expectations right!
I don't really have any previous knowledge of most of the actors or seen or heard anything prior to watching the movie apart from the trailer.
I won't go into plot details as there are other reviews that did that way better.
What I do want to say though is: set your expectations right!!! If you liked what you saw in the trailer, hey...if you liked the poster and know what "homage" means as a genre then go see it! But if you are not aware of those things....please don't come back here giving ratings of 1 and saying how bad this movie was.
It's one of those artsy movies that you'd better watch on your own in my opinion. The universe is very captivating. The characters are likable and relatable. They are pure and innocent in a way. There is no nudity in the movie. And the gore is 80's style, but you could probably go with a tween or a teen. It's way safer than what Hollywood offers to that audience.
I really enjoyed the movie. If you have open mind, some time and know what to expect it's a nice treat at the beginning of the autumn. If some of those things do not apply to you, then you'd probably skip or leave the cinema.
Stung (2015)
Good time no alcohol required
Fun fun fun ride with extremely likable characters. I will jump on a leg here and guess the budget for the movie wasn't very big, but the cast did an outstanding job. It's above average that's for sure. I mean I've seen way way way more expensive movies this year, that were classes below this one. (Jupiter Ascending is a good example).
I don't really know the two main protagonists as actors, but I sure do hope to see them again. Both are pretty natural and just plain cool.
Perfect flick with friends for a Saturday night. No nudity, its somewhat safe for juveniles as well, so bonus points for that.
If you like that genre, grab the nachos and have some fun with this one.
