Talk Back and You're Dead (2014)
Generic, dreadfully cheesy and formulaic.
With cheesy writing, boring character development and a lazy repetitive plot, 'Talk Back and You're Dead' wastes Nadine and James' potential and everyone else's time. Although it's no secret that 'Jadine' is capable of handling generic characters and transforming them into likable and relatable personalities, this film's bland and lazy writing was too much for the two as both seemed so uninterested into being in the movie. With the dialogue being as hallow as log, characters as interesting as glue and a script which required the 2nd and 3rd act to be exactly the same, this movie is a major miss to even the most die-hard Jadine fans.
Beauty and the Bestie (2015)
Although a solid first half, this movie suffers from most Filipino comedies.
The movie to its credit it has its comedic moments, but it also has its downfalls and flaws. The action was well-executed. Once again the funniest part about a Vice Ganda film is his fellow gay co- stars, and Coco and Vice's obvious chemistry, and the hit-and-miss jokes are (for the most part) great, when the joke hits--it's funny and it gets you a bit of a laugh or giggle here and there, but on the other hand, when the jokes are a miss..oh boy it is a MISS. Let me also point out Nadine and James (aka JADINE), these two were one of the most disappointing things about this film. Their relationship is way too forced, the dialogue is insultingly bad and the acting is beyond lazy. They had little to no help in moving the story along, it's sad because these two have Proved (movie and TV) that they can do better, they can be funny, but for now, they're just wasted cast.
Although a solid first half, this movie suffers from most Filipino comedies, ESPECIALLY Vice Ganda's movies, and that's having too much focus on the first half and having little-to-no effort in the second. It also suffers from, again, most Filipino comedies; it tries to throw too many jokes all at once that it ultimately ends up awkward and a mess. JADINE was out of place. The story had no proper focus. Coco and Vice's comedic chemistry had so much potential but wasn't exploited enough. Writing gets lazy into the second part, the dialogue is painfully awkward. The pacing was either going too fast or too slow and the plot didn't make sense for the most part.
If you're with a group of friends looking to kill time (2 hours to be exact. Really? TWO hours for a COMEDY?) I'd say go watch it. But I'll say that Beauty and the Bestie is an awkwardly written, unevenly paced, waste of potential.
"Come for the first half, stay because these are expensive tickets."
On the Job (2013)
Dark and Thrilling. Exactly what it has to be.
Dark and Thrilling. Exactly what it has to be. Though it suffers from old movie clichés of it's genre and questionable camera handling, the film is still jam-packed with thrill and action good enough to keep your eyes to the big screen, eating your popcorn, contented and intrigued.
The film is excels on it's smart writing, strong character development, realistic characters and character dialogue, and with a strong and commanding performance by Joel Torre and Gerald Anderson the movie is a masterpiece of the Philippines and a step to the right direction of the Philippine movie industry.
All-in-all, if you want to see a hands-down, a recent Philippine masterpiece, "On The Job (OTJ)" is the nail-biting movie for you.
Da Possessed (2014)
Though the dull script and confusing sequence and set-ups, Vhong's wit and his supporting cast manages to make the movie bearable to watch.
Though the dull script and confusing sequence and set-ups, Vhong's wit and his supporting cast manages to make the movie bearable to watch. But there's nothing new to see in this movie, the cast is poorly presented and the story is loses it's sensibility halfway across the movie. The script is boring and the plot sequence is too rushed and unbalanced. Though the movie does live up it's name by presenting it's genre the right way; It shares a decent amount of jokes that can surely make you laugh. It's enjoyable not because of the jokes shared within the script, it was enjoyable because of the witty acting and funny actions the actors do (specifically the SUPPORTING actors). But also, the director forgets an important aspect in movies: Consistency. The movie attracted viewers because of it's solid first 1-hour, but after-so, the other hour turns into a total bore.
All-in-all, if you're with your friends/family, or (if alone) have a short attention span, "Da Possessed" is the family-movie for you!
My Little Bossings (2013)
Boring. Dull. Lazy. Kiss-ass sponsor movie. Topped off with terrible acting.
Boring. Dull. Lazy. Kiss-ass sponsor movie. Topped off with terrible acting. Though the success of the movie through the Gross rating by averaging over 50 million in opening night (December 25th), the film failed to live up to the hype as it shows that some trailers can only get you so far. Not only was the movie full of terrible acting, the film was also showered by kiss-ass sponsors of products. Throughout the movie you will notice the sponsorship and featuring to get dumber and dumber as the movie progresses on. Though we can accept the fact the acting wasn't good since the movie is being starred by a 60 year old man and 2 child actors. The movie was still hard to focus. Not only was the movie editing confusing and mediocre, the movie script loses it's sense halfway towards the movie. Though the great acting of Kris and Aiza made the story much more bearable, it wasn't enough to carry the over-hyped movie into the audience success. All-in-all, if you want to see bad directing, horrible editing, bad screenplay, mediocre joke, terrible child acting and massive product sponsorship suck-up, look no further, "My Little Bossings" the disappointment, oh I meant movie for you!
